Slowly Falling into His Love Trap-Chapter 84: What Right Do You Have to Talk Back?
Listening to those words filled with mockery and sarcasm, Evelyn reminded herself to swallow her anger.
It’s okay for her to suffer, but she couldn’t let Cecilia suffer because of her anymore.
However, when she remained silent, those people became even more aggressive, as if they were using her as a way to bond with Eleanor.
"I really don’t know how her family taught her. Is being poor an excuse to sell oneself shamelessly?" one woman joked. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Evelyn was thoroughly enraged, glaring at them, and asked coldly, "Do you know me? Do you know how I grew up? Just relying on Eleanor’s word, what gives you the right to judge what kind of person I am?"
"How can you be so rude?" The women started chattering again, "We’re saying this for your own good. Besides, what right does a servant like you have to talk back to us?"
"I’m not as you say. Why can’t I prove my innocence?" Evelyn was unyielding, "You have the privilege of a good family background, so what? If you were born poor, who knows what you would be like now!"
"You..."
"And, what’s wrong with being poor? Does being poor mean we deserve to be looked down upon by those born with a silver spoon?" Evelyn stood tall, "Letizia and Kate Middleton are Princesses! Their family backgrounds were just average before, do you dare look down on them?"
"Evelyn!" Eleanor’s voice turned cold, "Who allowed you to treat our distinguished guests like this? And, are you very familiar with those commoner princesses? Why? Catching a few special cases makes you think you can rise like a phoenix too?"
Facing the combined ridicule from Eleanor and those women, which even rose to the level of questioning her family upbringing, Evelyn’s heart was filled with bitterness.
All her life, she prided herself on bringing honor to her family.
Yet, Eleanor always found reasons to insult her, questioning her upbringing.
Isn’t it these seemingly glamorous women who truly lack proper upbringing?
"I have a wide range of hobbies outside of class." Evelyn replied in a deep voice, "Do you know who the first female emperor in Chinese history was? Do you know the significance of September 18th? Apart from Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing, do you know any other dynasties? Is this all meaningless to you, because your life and conversations don’t involve these topics, right?"
"I... How could I not know?" Eleanor showed some trepidation, "These are basic knowledge, how could I not know!"
"Oh, really?" Evelyn’s lips curved into a cold smile, "Then let me ask you a very simple question, why don’t polar bears eat penguins?"
Eleanor was taken aback, wanting to pull out her phone to Baidu the answer.
Where could she know why polar bears don’t eat penguins?
Seeing Eleanor completely unable to answer, Evelyn finally felt a sense of relief.
Everyone present was also stunned by Evelyn’s series of questions, hardly anyone could answer them.
Especially, why don’t polar bears eat penguins?
At the corner on the second floor, Caden stood there, taking in everything, his dark eyes filled with a gentle glow.
Evelyn’s way of seeking justice for herself was indeed interesting!
It seemed there was no need for him to worry too much about her.
He turned away, needing to attend to some matters.
He looked forward to seeing her later, to see what her reaction would be when she found out he wasn’t the "Cowherd."
