Chapter 131: Chapter 131: Just Call Him "Hubby

"Back to the Lockwood Family," the bodyguard replied respectfully.

"If you dare lay a finger on her, I promise you’ll be joining her in the grave!" Caden Lockwood’s voice was stern, "Give her the phone back!"

The bodyguard bowed his head and handed the phone back to Evelyn Morgan.

Evelyn was curious why Caden Lockwood always finished his conversations with others in just a few words.

Every time she wanted to talk to him, it always took a really long time.

"Are you scared?" Caden’s voice was soothing.

"Not really," Evelyn whispered, "Did you... settle everything with them?"

"This is the time for you to face your father-in-law," Caden spoke calmly, "My dad didn’t call me back; it seems he wants to talk to you alone."

"How can you do this!" Evelyn was anxious, "Are you planning to stand by and do nothing?"

She wasn’t stupid; from just one disdainful look from James Lockwood, she already knew

— he didn’t like her,

She couldn’t believe James Lockwood simply wanted to see his daughter-in-law and talk.

What she was going to face next was definitely not ordinary trouble and reproach!

"It’s not that serious," Caden joked deliberately, "Relax, he won’t kill you."

"Hey!" Evelyn shouted, "Caden Lockwood, if you dare watch this like a show, I’m not finished with you!"

Upon hearing this, the bodyguard next to them twitched his face.

He had been with the Lockwood Family for quite some time, and it was the first time he heard someone dare speak to Caden Lockwood like that.

And judging by Evelyn’s tone, she seemed very familiar with it!

Indeed... in the face of true love, any principle can be broken.

"Evelyn, if you don’t want to die, be gentle with me!" Caden’s voice was restrained, "Now, apart from me, who else can you turn to?"

"You!" Evelyn clenched her fists in anger, yet she had no choice but to relent.

After all, she really couldn’t find anyone else to help her!

"What do you want?" She lowered her tone.

"Call me ’husband,’" Caden laughed lightly, "and I’ll come to save you."

Call him husband?

Evelyn resisted from within.

He must be teasing her!

At a time like this, he’s still joking around?

"Won’t call?" Caden raised his pitch, "Then you’ll have to deal with my dad on your own! He’s not someone to be tangled with, used to being fawned upon; his temper can flare up unpredictably. Sometimes, he doesn’t need you to make a mistake; if he’s upset, he’ll take it out on you."

Pausing, he continued, "And you, as his daughter-in-law, must honor filial piety above all. Even if you’re wronged, you can only bear it yourself."

"Are you... kidding?" Evelyn’s heart was in her throat, "I... I..."

"Will you call or not?" Caden pressed, "I’m very busy; I don’t have much sympathy to spare for you."

As he spoke, Caden unconsciously accelerated the car.

Evelyn was torn; calling him ’husband’ would mean Caden would come to her rescue, sparing her from facing James Lockwood on her own.

If she didn’t call, was he really planning to leave her to fend for herself?

He... seemed capable of doing anything.

But to call him husband?

It was just a title, but now, she’s already given him her first time, and they already had a marriage certificate; if she called him ’husband’... 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Why did she feel she’d be getting deeper down the road of becoming Mrs. Lockwood, unable to stop?

Cecilia Lynch’s words echoed in her ears: "Are you just going to give your body and reputation for nothing? You might as well just honestly be Mrs. Lockwood. After all, your uncle is pretty good to you, isn’t he?"

It seemed... Cecilia’s suggestion wasn’t wrong either.
