Sleeping With The CEO-Chapter 323: Hello Stranger
Chapter 323: Hello Stranger
When Emily had left, she had said that she would come back. And that was the only thing that had kept Jane sane as the hours had turned into days. She had clung to her daughter’s words. Comforting herself with the fact that Emily’s absence was not permanent.
That she would return someday.
Were it up to Jane, Emily would never have left at all. But since it was not up to her. She’d had to contend with the fact that maybe at most, Emily would be gone for a month or two.
But of course that was not the case. After only a few days away, Emily was baxk. Which was exactly what Jane had been hoping for.
But despite the unbelievable joy that Jane was feeling at her daughter’s return. She also could not help but be a bit irritated at Emily’s timing. Jane had just gotten in from work, and after a long hot shower she had been ready to just sit in front of the TV, and switch off for a few hours. Dressed in her comfiest pajamas, with a tub of ice cream on her lap.
In fact, Jane had almost fulfilled that plan. Dressed in the pajamas that she had been dreaming about all day. She’d just sat down, ice cream in hand, and had been about to switch on the TV. But then her phone had chimed. Signalling that she had a message.
She had wanted to ignore it, but then Jane had figured that one glance could not hurt. As it turned out one glance could hurt a lot. Which was why Jane was currently in a state of panic.
’Hey mom. I’m back. I am on my way up to the apartment right now. Don’t be in bunny slippers, I am bringing visitors. It’s Derek and his mother.’
They almost never brought visitors to the apartment. So it figured that one of the few times they had guests. Said guests happened to be people who were practically made of money.
Jane was not ashamed of her social standing. Infact the Molsons were quite well off. But that did not mean she wanted to be seen by the Havens while she was in her pajamas. So Jane got up faster than was advisable. Her knee hitting the edge of the table as she rose.
But she did not have time to address the hurt. Ignoring her throbbing knee she ran to the kitchen, and shoved the ice cream into the fridge. That done, she speed walked to her bedroom in order to get changed.
Given that Emily had not given her an exact time of when she and their guests would be arriving. Jane decided that it was best to not waste too much time getting ready. So she picked a simple green dress, threw it on, grabbed a comb, ran it through her hair, and put on a pair of sandals.
It was not a formal look by any means, but it certainly beat being seen in her pajamas by a woman who probably owned a thousand evening gowns, and wore authentic pearls and diamonds simply because it was Tuesday and she felt like it.
It was not a matter of Jane feeling inferior. She just did not want Derek Haven’s mother looking down on her. After checking her reflection in the mirror one last time, Jane made her way back to the living area. And right on time too, the moment she left her room, she heard movement outside the front door.
She briefly contemplated heading back into the bedroom, and waiting for them to either knock, or for Emily to use her key to let them in.
In the end, Jane decided that the direct approach would be the best one. She had no reason to cower. The Havens were people too after all. With that thought in mind, Jane opened the door.
The first person that she saw was her daughter. Maternal instinct instantly took over. Jane rushed forward and she hugged her tight.
"Oh Emily, I have missed you," She breathed.
"I missed you too, mom," Her Emily said, returning the hug just as fiercely.
All of the worries that Cassandra had been having. Thoughts that maybe Emily would never quite forgive her. That their relationship would be strained as a result of Jane keeping Derek away from her, were instantly laid to rest.
If Emily were still angry at her, then she would not have returned Jane’s hug.
So the fact that she was not only doing so. But had also admitted to missing her mother, was a good sign.
Stepping back from the hug, Jane gently cradled Emily’s face, taking her in. She looked happy and well rested.
Definitely in a much better state than Jane had thought she would be.
Glad that her daughter was doing alright. Jane was just about to go in for another hug when Emily shook her head, gently reaching up to move Jane’s hands away from her. Then she looked back, and Jane finally noticed Derek Haven.
"Nice to see you again, Mrs Molson," He said, and Jane nodded.
"It is lovely seeing you too, Derek. I take it that the two of you have worked out your differences?" The young man nodded.
Jane smiled, finally realizing why it was that her daughter looked so well rested. Clearly wherever it was that Emily had gone, she and Derek had been together, and they had been able to get some sleep.
"We apologize for giving you so little time to prepare, but my mother has something that she wishes to talk to you about. Isn’t that right, mother?" Derek said, and then he stepped back. Revealing the woman standing behind him for the first time, and Jane felt all of the breath leave her.
Standing before her was someone that Jane had not seen in many years. Were the woman anyone else, Jane would have long forgotten her.
But some people were impossible to forget.
"Cassie?," she whispered, her eyes wide with disbelief.
"Jane?"The other woman said, sounding and looking just as shaken as Jane felt.
Her shock overwhelming her. Jane was hit with a sudden dizzy spell and were it not for Emily, she would have fallen.
Of all the people that Derek Haven’s mother could be, why did it have to be Cassie?
