Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Mister, You Love Me, Don’t You?

Tossed onto the bed, Serena Yardley felt like her heart was about to shatter.

She slowly sat up, her eyes filled with tears as she looked at the man before her.

"What do you want me to pay you back with? My life? If you want my life, you can have it anytime."

She would honestly rather give him her life than endure his cold, silent torture.

From the moment she miscarried until now, he hadn’t shown her a shred of concern or care. Instead, he just found new ways to torment and humiliate her.

’Was this fun for him?’

’If he hates me, he should just throw me away.’

’Why does he have to treat me like this?’

Serena Yardley felt she couldn’t hold on much longer. If Uncle really wanted her dead, she would grant him his wish.

"What’s your life worth?"

Ethan Yardley looked at her icily. "Listen to me. From now on, you will work by my side to repay me. If you dare disobey me again, I..."

He suddenly didn’t know what to say.

He knew perfectly well that even if this defenseless young woman disobeyed him, there was nothing he could do to her.

But he was just miserable.

And if he was miserable, how could he let her be happy?

"Get up. Help me undress."

Not knowing how else to retaliate, Ethan Yardley could only order her around.

Even though the sight of her made him think of her sordid affair with another man, he was unwilling to push her away.

Perhaps he wasn’t tormenting her, but himself.

Serena Yardley sat on the bed, unmoving.

Ethan Yardley frowned, glaring at her. "Didn’t you hear me?"

Serena Yardley still didn’t move. "Didn’t you bring Sylvia Schuyler back? Have her undress you. What do you want me for?

In your eyes, I betrayed you long ago. Aren’t you disgusted just looking at someone as filthy as me?"

"Serena! Yardley!"

Ethan Yardley ground his teeth, his voice a low growl, each word sharp with a fury that made his insides ache. "Do you think I’m like you? That I’ll touch just anyone?"

"Yes, you’re so noble, so magnificent! I’m the slut, I’m shameless, I’m devoid of all decency, is that it?"

She screamed at him in a fit of rage, her temper clearly flaring even hotter than his.

Ethan Yardley suppressed the rage boiling inside him and stormed out.

He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from hitting her.

He hadn’t even settled the score with her, yet here she was, throwing a tantrum at him as if she were the one in the right.

’She’s infuriating.’

That night, Serena Yardley didn’t leave her room again.

And Ethan Yardley didn’t come back.

Serena Yardley sat on the floor by the bed for the entire night. As dawn broke, a woman’s voice, dripping with false concern, came from behind her.

"Serena, I heard from Mrs. Miller that you had a miscarriage? When were you pregnant? Didn’t you tell Ethan?

Your body must be very weak after a miscarriage, right? You should be sure to get plenty of rest."

As she spoke, Sylvia Schuyler walked over and stood in front of Serena Yardley.

Seeing her sitting on the floor, leaning against the bed and staring blankly out the window, she asked with a smile, "Serena, are you all right?"

Serena Yardley turned to look at Sylvia Schuyler, her gaze as sharp as thorns. In a cold voice, she said, "Who let you into my room? Get out."

Sylvia Schuyler smiled again, deliberately moving closer and feigning a friendly, understanding tone.

"Serena, I know you’re in a bad mood because of the miscarriage. I can understand.

Did you know? If you hadn’t miscarried, I would have been the one to raise your child. He would have had to call me ’Mother.’ So I’m also heartbroken that you lost the baby."

"I told you to get out."

The more she spoke, the angrier Serena Yardley became. She grabbed a nearby pillow and hurled it at Sylvia Schuyler.

Sylvia Schuyler felt her reaction wasn’t stimulating enough, so she deliberately added:

"Serena, don’t be angry. You’re still young; you can have more children. When you give birth to Ethan’s child in the future, I will definitely treat it as my own and take good care of it."

"Get out! Get out..."

Serena Yardley couldn’t take it anymore. She shot up like a madwoman, grabbed the cosmetics from her vanity, and threw them directly at Sylvia Schuyler.

Sylvia Schuyler deliberately didn’t dodge, steeling herself and standing there, letting Serena Yardley smash the bottles and jars on her head.

Every single one hit its mark, the pain forcing Sylvia Schuyler to clench her jaw.

Just as Ethan Yardley was passing the doorway, he saw what Serena Yardley was doing.

His eyes flashed with fury. He quickly moved forward to shield Sylvia Schuyler in his arms, roaring at Serena Yardley, "Serena Yardley, stop it!"

Serena Yardley had completely lost her mind and started throwing things at Ethan Yardley as well.

"You damned pair, get out! Don’t let me see you again! Get out!"

Seeing that the woman had truly gone mad and that Sylvia Schuyler was badly hurt, Ethan Yardley quickly helped her leave.

Once out of the room, he saw that Sylvia Schuyler’s head was covered in wounds, with blood still streaming down. He quickly pulled out his phone to dial 911.

But Sylvia Schuyler stopped him.

"Ethan, I’m fine. Just help me bandage it downstairs."

Ethan Yardley agreed.

He quickly helped her downstairs and had Mrs. Miller bring the first-aid kit to treat her wounds.

Sylvia Schuyler watched the man carefully bandaging her wounds and said in a gentle voice:

"Ethan, don’t blame Serena. She’s young, and she just had a miscarriage, so her emotions are bound to be unstable. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have tried to show her concern when I knew she was in a bad mood."

Ethan Yardley pressed his thin lips together and said nothing.

His handsome, chiseled face was like ice, and his deep, dark eyes made it impossible to guess his thoughts.

Sylvia Schuyler didn’t dare say more.

She was afraid it would be counterproductive.

After dressing the wounds, Ethan Yardley still felt it wasn’t enough. He looked at Mrs. Miller and said, "Take Sylvia Schuyler to the hospital for a tetanus shot."

Mrs. Miller understood, but Sylvia Schuyler immediately said, "Ethan, I’m fine."

"Your wounds are serious. You need to go to the hospital for stitches. You go first. I’ll come see you later after I finish up here."

"But..."

A single look from him, and Sylvia Schuyler instantly fell silent. She had no choice but to get up and leave with Mrs. Miller.

Ethan Yardley watched Sylvia Schuyler go before heading upstairs again.

Arriving at the door to Serena Yardley’s room, he stood ramrod straight, watching her small, frail figure inside, frantically smashing things.

’She seems to have a lot of energy.’

Ethan Yardley strode into the room.

Serena Yardley had vented her fill, and nearly everything in the room was destroyed.

Exhausted, she suddenly collapsed to the floor, terrified of the future.

From above her, a man’s magnetic, cold voice suddenly sounded. "Serena Yardley, what is this madness?"

Serena Yardley had calmed down considerably.

She leaned against the bed, not wanting to deal with anyone.

Ethan Yardley looked at her, his heart clenching for no reason. "Do you really want to leave me that badly?"

Serena Yardley looked up at him, her eyes devoid of emotion. "Yes."

Her single, decisive word once again filled him with rage.

He looked down on her, high and mighty, and coldly threw two words back at her: "Dream on."

He felt that every time he was with her, she was going to give him a heart attack from the anger.

Ethan Yardley turned to leave.

Serena Yardley watched him go and gave a desolate smile. "Uncle, you must be reluctant to let me go, right? Otherwise, why haven’t you thrown me out after I slept with another man and got pregnant with his child?

You’re deeply in love with me, aren’t you?"

She knew this man didn’t love her.

Rather than being trapped here while he brought another woman home to provoke her and verbally abused her at every turn, she might as well go all in and become exactly what he thought she was.

That way, he would be so disgusted that he would finally kick her out.

Only by leaving this place could she go out and find Gabriel Galloway and the man who kidnapped her to prove her innocence.

Ethan Yardley stopped in his tracks, struggling to suppress the emotions threatening to erupt within him.

He turned around, his eyes piercing her like icicles, as five cold words escaped his thin lips:

"Love you? You think you’re worthy?"
