"That’s one down. But don’t worry, the two of you shall join him soon. I suppose the least I can do is give you a moment to mourn your fallen comrade...let me know once you’re ready to resume," Remarked Viscous, taking a seat on the ground.
I grabbed Aarav’s shoulder as he began to take a step towards the Monster with a seething look on his face.
He snapped his head towards me, his eyes bulging with rage, before he expression eased as I slightly tightened my grip on his shoulder and shook my head as I met his gaze.
He turned his attention towards Jin’s lifeless, bloodied corpse, his lower lip trembling slightly before he shakily approached him, clenching his fists with a bitter grimace.
"Shit...damn it, fuck!" Yelled Aarav, as he collapsed onto his knees by Jin’s corpse with a distressed look on his face.
"Calm down, hold it in for now. I know that sounds cold, but...if you want to avenge him, you need to keep your cool. That doesn’t mean ignore your anger, but make use of it instead of letting it incite you into a blind rage.
Let’s assess and consider our options here. Damaging that thing’s body doesn’t seem to have any effect, he can generate more slime to replace whatever we blow off. And as far as I can tell, he isn’t getting tired, we should assume his stamina is unlimited."
"Yeah..."
"His Mana is still mostly intact too...it isn’t unlimited, but he’s got a hell of a lot more than we do, more than the both of us have combined. It doesn’t look like he can control any slime that he’s detached, he can only control what he’s directly connected to.
Doesn’t change the fact that he’s got incredible versatility, though. Equally strong on both offense and defense, and effective at all ranges. And to top it all off, his Core is evidently his only weakness.
I’d need to strike it at full power to damage it...not only is it super small and coated in an impenetrable shield, he can also move it around freely inside his body, so the chances of getting an opportunity to land a clean hit on it are slim to none," I surmised grimly.
With how much faster he is than we are, catching him off-guard would be nearly impossible, and so long as he has even a fraction of a second to react, he’ll be able to move his Core out of the way.
"So, what then? We have no options?" He responded as he got back onto his feet, a dark, murderous look in his eyes as he glanced at Viscous.
"Not quite...how do you feel about betting everything on a gamble?"
"Huh?"
"I’ll keep it simple. We’ll simply attack him with everything we’ve got, and at the end, leave it to me, I’ll handle it. At best, I’d say we’ve got fifty-fifty odds of this working...and of course, if it fails, we die."
"And that’s our only option?"
"Yeah, unless you’ve got a better idea."
"I don’t. But it’s fine...that’ll work. All I need to do is blow off some steam, right? And you’ll take it from there?" He surmised as he glanced at me.
"That’s about the gist of it, yeah."
"Okay, then. Let’s gamble," He nodded, before he shot towards Viscous.
"Hm? Ah, looks like you’re finally ready to resume," Remarked Viscous, getting back onto his feet.
I shot up into the air as Aarav raised his left hand as he closed in on Viscous, rapidly extending out a bone spike from his palm towards the Monster.
I swooped down at full speed, Negative Energy and crimson flames swirling around my fists. As the bone spike closed in on Viscous, several smaller spikes branched out across it with immense speed.
I veered to the left as Viscous slithered across to his right, evading the spike before turning his gaze up towards me as I closed in and drove my right fist forward.
He began to slither away, my knuckles grazing the side of his head, an intense burst of flames and Negative Energy erupting and blasting half his face off. I then unleashed a powerful shockwave of Negative Energy, blowing him away as he began to extend tendrils out towards me.
As he skidded across the ground and came to a sliding halt, a wave of bone spikes came barreling towards him, bursting out of the ground.
I unleashed a fierce barrage of Negative Energy blasts after him as he slithered away from the bone spikes, before a barrage of pressurized water blasts came shooting up towards me with immense force.
I zipped across and weaved through the air to evade them, one of them grazing my right bicep and tearing my skin to shreds before the fiery burst erupted out, too late to absorb any of the force.
Aarav extended out dozens of blood tendrils and sent them zipping out towards Viscous while simultaneously firing out a barrage of bone arrows from his palms.
Viscous drove me further away with his flurry of water blasts as I unleashed a barrage of Negative Energy blasts to try and cancel them out. He swiftly expanded his body into the shape of a donut, the bone arrows shooting through the hole before he shot towards Aarav. He extended out his slime tendrils, whipping them across and batting away Aarav’s blood tendrils.
As he closed in on Aarav, a massive amount of blood burst out of the ground around Viscous, taking the form of countless tendrils and rapidly constricting around his entire body.
I swooped down as Aarav extended out a bone blade and drove it forward, before a bright electric flash suddenly erupted out, forcing me to come to a halt and fly back.
As the flash faded, I spotted Aarav sprawled across the ground, unconscious, having gotten blasted several meters back. He was covered in burns, thin wisps of smoke flowing out above the burnt spots on his skin.
"Hm, it seems he’s still alive. No matter, he will not regain consciousness anytime soon, so I can kill him at my leisure...after I am finished with you," Uttered Viscous, as he shifted his attention to me...
