Sinner System-Chapter 408: Monster System (Part 3)
"So, um...are you reincarnated too?" Cleo asked me awkwardly, fidgeting a bit.
We were in the living room, she was seated on the couch, while Aria and I were sitting across her.
"Yeah, I died in 2025 and ended up in this era. How about you?" I inquired curiously.
"Oh, I died a bit later, after the Monsters showed up. It was in 2067, I had just turned fifteen at the time. My family and I were killed by the Monsters, and something about my dying thoughts being focused entirely on wishing the Monsters dead unlocked the Monster System, and I ended up in this era. I’ve only been here for about fifteen months though," She explained, looking a bit less tense.
Huh, since she’s transmigrated too, I wonder how similar her situation is to mine?
Maybe someone in her family was compatible with reincarnation and instead requested that she be reincarnated, like my mom did for me?
And like me, she also reincarnated in a grown body, instead of starting over from scratch as a baby.
There’s little doubt that Samsara manipulated reality to fit her into the timeline, just like she did with my case.
"It’s pretty cool that possibly the only two people with Systems, that we know of anyway, both reincarnated here in Sanctuary Theta," Chimed in Aria in fascination.
"Oh, actually, no. I was in Sanctuary Epsilon, in the southern region of Africa, but I moved here a couple of months before I began attending the Academy."
"Did you move here for any particular reason?" I responded, as she began to relax, the tension around her steadily fading.
"Uh, sort of...while my main goal is wiping out the Monsters, having these powers is pretty cool, and I want to rise to become the strongest. And since you’re currently the strongest, I figured it’d be pretty cool to surpass you on your turf," She admitted with a sheepish smile.
"How does it work, by the way, your System? Specifically, with getting stronger. Your Potential and Power Level are the exact same, so I’m guessing you’re in the same boat as me, where both values increase in unison.
How do you increase your power? That Assimilation Skill, does it make you more powerful in addition to giving you new Skills based on Monster abilities?" I asked her in fascination.
"Yeah, pretty much. I have to kill Monsters and then take hold of their Cores, Assimilation absorbs the energy stored in the Cores. I have to use Assimilation on a certain number of Cores of the various species in a given evolutionary cycle to unlock their abilities.
Since everyone thinks I’m weak, I volunteered to carry all the Cores during my first two raids, and then used Assimilation to absorb the energy stored in them.
But to unlock the more powerful versions of the acquired Skills, I have to get my hands on the Cores of the stronger species in the evolutionary cycle," She informed us.
"Damn...it’s too bad I didn’t bother gathering the several thousand Cores of the Monsters I killed in the other world," I mused with a wry smile.
"What if you absorb Cores from Monsters that are higher up in their respective evolutionary cycle? Do you get the Skills of their lower-evolved forms too?" Spoke up Aria.
"Yes. I generally have to absorb somewhere between ten to fifteen Cores to get an ability from a specific species. For example, my first raid had Sonic Bats, I unlocked the Sonic Screech Skill after absorbing twelve Cores.
And I also absorbed the Dungeon Boss’s Core, a Supersonic Bat, but I’ll need around ten more, at least, to unlock Supersonic Screech.
But let’s say there were no Sonic Bats in that Dungeon, only Supersonic Bats. In that case, by the time I absorbed, say, six to eight of their Cores, I would’ve unlocked Sonic Screech.
And if it were Hypersonic Bats, it would’ve taken ten to fifteen Cores to unlock Hypersonic Screech, six to eight Cores to unlock Supersonic Screech, and around three to five to unlock Sonic Screech.
And if there was a Critical Level evolved form, it’d follow a similarly proportionate rate to unlock the Skills of the lower-evolved forms, and only one, or maybe two at most, to unlock the Low Level form’s Skill.
It’s always ten to fifteen Cores to unlock a specific species’ Skills, but targeting higher-level Cores is the fastest way to unlock the lower-level Skills."
Wow, she’s really going into detail, I didn’t expect her to be this open about it. I suppose a part of it must be because she’s probably figured that we’ve surmised a decent amount already thanks to Appraisal.
"What about your stats? Does Assimilation also increase them too?" I inquired with a sense of intrigue.
This is pretty cool, hearing about the specifics and differences of her System compared to mine.
"Mhm, yeah. I’m not sure of the exact rate, but naturally, my stats increase more when I absorb Cores from stronger Monsters. So even if I’ve already unlocked a specific Monster’s Skills, there’s still reason to absorb the energy from their Cores. But both Dungeon Bosses I’ve encountered so far were Mid Levels, so it’s been pretty slow progress," She sighed wistfully.
"Do you know if there’s an upper limit?" Responded Aria curiously.
"According to my Info Bank, yes. But I don’t know the exact limits, though I’ll apparently hit two slow-down points, at which the rate my stats increase at will drop.
The second slow-down point is apparently when I get to around half my upper limit, and I’ll reach the first slow-down point approximately around a sixth of the upper limit."
"Yeah, that’s pretty much how it went for me too, more or less," I nodded thoughtfully.
"Oh, could you tell me what those limits were? It’d be helpful to know...even if my upper limit is different, I’d like to have a frame of reference, at least," She requested eagerly.
