Chapter 226: 226. The Fall of Grimbow’s Pillars

After Minerva was corrupted, Jake let her rest and bought a stamina recovery potion for himself. While he was in the middle of chugging it, Lena’s voice suddenly rang in his mind.

"Master, looks like some elves have entered the dungeon just like you said!"

"Oh?" Jake’s expression didn’t change but a slight glint flashed in his eyes.

"Let them come down. Don’t give them too much trouble."

Hearing that, Lena frowned. Typically, you don’t help the intruders. What’s so special about these two...? The dungeon fairy closed her eyes, examining Valerie and Brienne.

Obviously, she didn’t recognise the princess but she could tell the other elf was one of the captured prisoners.

"I get it." She exclaimed to herself, "This new elf must be here to prove herself and join master’s harem!"

Caressing her puffy cheeks, the fairy pridefully blushed. "Master’s charm is really something... That prisoner even brought her friend to become master’s woman!"

Eying the beautiful princess, Lena thought for a while and softly pouted. "Hmph, she looks worthy. Since master himself asked, I’ll help her this time..."

Jake had no idea what his little fairy was thinking as he left the meeting hall, heading to the 33rd floor.

...

Later that night, at Driftin City, Provincial Capital of Gaephia.

The Ravenner family estate was located at a lakeside front on the upper edges of the city.

As the most powerful noble family in the whole province, the Ravenners owned the whole district in which their estate fell.

Tonight was the 27th birthday of Duke Franklin Ravenner’s youngest son, Cedric. In this occasion, the family had spared no moderation, spending millions of gold and inviting nobles from even faraway countries.

"Ahahaha, Lord Cumberbatch, you jest!"

"I heard Lady Dovertine is having yet another child."

"Oh, how blessed!"

Extravagantly dressed nobles stood in the ballroom, talking amongst themselves. Some held glasses half full of liquor, while some ate desserts.

Others were empty-handed, either looking at the wall paintings or watching the peaceful lake from the balcony.

At that moment, a voice suddenly came from the stairs above, stopping the chatter.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, the hour has arrived." Proudly hugging his son, Duke Ravenner called and spoke his two words.

In the Grimbow Kingdom, the Ravenner family was known to produce the best magicians. The Duke himself was a peak 4th Circle Mage, and a retired tutor for many Court Mages.

Anyone born in the family was required to study magic from the age of 5. As one of the direct successors of the Duke, Cedric Ravenner was given special care and he’d reached the peak of 3rd Circle at just the young age of 27.

That meant there was a high chance that he might reach the 4th Circle before turning 35. Then, another powerhouse would join the Ravenner family!

As the birthday celebration went on, the night deepened. The party was still ongoing but many people were beginning to fall asleep.

In one of the family’s private rooms, Duke Ravenner, his wife and children were having a chat with some of the more important nobles.

"These days, the situation in the kingdom is uncertain. Ever since Countess Minerva was revealed to be an evil necromancer, I always feel something bad is going to happen." the Duke’s wife worriedly said.

"That woman is not a countess anymore, Lady Ravenner."

"Lord Trevor is correct, mother." the eldest son added. "If she wasn’t recommended by father, how could that woman have become a noble?"

"Sigh." The Duke looked down, regrettably shaking his bald head. "She was the most talented among all my students..."

"But mother’s words still hold the truth. I also feel something isn’t right," Cedric spoke and looked around the room.

"Remember that Wyvern who suddenly attacked Gera city?"

"Oh right, I remember. That also happened in Karsuda!" Cedric’s sister nodded.

"Wasn’t it a dragon?"

"No no, a dragon would decimate the whole city..."

Just as the conversation became heated, a strange sound came from outside. It was as if someone was blowing a horn far away.

Everyone in the estate could hear it and quickly looked out from the windows.

In the dead of the night, a half-moon shone brightly above Lake Driftin. But suddenly, a tiny shadow blocked the moon’s light. The shadow became larger and larger as seconds passed.

"T-That..."

"It’s flying towards us?!"

By the time anyone could tell what was coming, a huge gust swept the lively estate. The roar that followed struck terror in the hearts of everyone present.

Above the mansion, a winged behemoth began flying in circles and it didn’t take long for someone to recognize what it was.

"A dragon!"

...

The next morning. Nuving Province, House of Lupin

Battalions of knights fought against a strange naked woman and a tall masked man. Despite being severely outnumbered, Fiona and Ash had no trouble slaughtering these humans who were merely at 2nd or 3rd Circles.

Meanwhile, 2 fourth Circle knights were tied down to Droge. One was already injured, while the other kept dodging the icy breaths that came his way, unable to even land an attack.

"Hah... Hah..." Breathing erratically, Marcin clutched his longsword, backing up.

"What wrong has my family done...?" He asked himself that question but couldn’t think of an answer.

’This must be the same Wyvern that attacked Gera City. Why is it targeting us? And who are the people that came along with it?"

Marcin’s head was churning with more and more questions as he rolled on the ground and slashed on this beast’s tough scales.

However, even if he did some damage, it wasn’t enough. Those two powerhouses had already finished off killing hundreds of knights.

"Run, Remus! We can’t win."

Hearing his younger brother, Remus just smiled instead. "No. I’m already injured. I won’t live for long even if I run!"

"But-"

"Marcin." Remus tapped his bloodied hand on his brother’s shoulder. "I’m the family head. Listen to me. You must live and tell his majesty about what happened..."

With that said, the older brother fearlessly charged toward the enemies coming his way. Overdrawing on his powers, Remus began sacrificing his remaining lifespan to buy time for Marcin.

As one of the most powerful knights and a former apprentice of Commander Bors, Marquis Remus Lupin wouldn’t go down without a fight.

For a while, he held his own against the Wyvern. By the time he was killed, Ash and Fiona finally arrived.

"One escaped..." Droge seemed irritated and flapped his wings, roaring endlessly.

"Give chase. We can’t let him foil master’s plans!" Ash’s figure turned blurry as he used a movement skill, sprinting towards where Marcin had run off to.
