Chapter 950: Chapter 948: ENVY BREEDS NOTORIOUS THOUGHTS

"Remember when we were young and free, a feeling bloomed inside you and me ...." Ruby was in a happy mood as she drove the car towards the destination where she was meeting her friends while singing along to Diamond’s song; First Love.

Having a talented sister who was multi-talented made life pretty much easier. Ruby was a major JEWEL and loved Diamond’s songs so much. She played those five songs a lot and even hoped that her sister could record more.

In fact, she wasn’t the only one having such thoughts but with how busy Diamond was, it would be a miracle to get another song. So, she was trying her best to be content with what was there.

Because she wasn’t joining her mother to the restaurant, after having breakfast with everyone, she remained at the villa while others went to work.

She prepared for this meeting slowly and with consideration. Recalling that her friends were no longer at the same level as her, she didn’t dare wear anything extravagant lest her friends see that as her trying to show off.

She still remembered how irritating it was when things weren’t well and then a friend would talk about this and that about her family.

Even if the friend didn’t mean any ill, to those listening, who could determine how they were interpreting that.

If there was one thing she understood; it was that envy when tolerated too much can breed notorious thoughts.

Didn’t the same happen with Diamond and the twins?

She hasn’t reached the stage of cutting ties with her friends yet. So, she wanted to prolong the friendship as best as she could.

With that in mind, she only wore what she thought was low-key and one never goes wrong wearing jeans and a plain t-shirt. It wasn’t like they would strip her off to check the brands, right?

Anyway, she drove happily with her playlist on, not knowing that elsewhere her friends had already arrived and things weren’t looking well at all.

Inside a café, a group of four girls with different demeanors and features sat drinking coffee but nothing seemed harmonious at all.

"Did you tell her the time to come?"

"Why are you acting like that as if you weren’t in the group when the matter was discussed?"

"It’s us who came early, okay?"

"Hehe, look at you already siding with her. Did she give you some benefits?"

"Seriously, where are you getting all this bullshit? It hasn’t even reached the time to meet. Why are you being so sour?"

Baam!

The girl getting scolded slammed the table angrily as she rose to her feet and angrily pointed at the other three.

"Don’t think that I don’t know what you are guys are thinking. Just because she made it big, you are all acting as if you are beneath her. Where are your guts?" she just hated how things had changed between them.

To think that the one who used to be beneath them was the one on the top, irritated her so much but what could she do to change it?

She could only blame Ruby’s sister for making it big and flaunting it. Now look how everyone was acting?

"Mary, can you tone it down?"

Mary sarcastically laughed as she looked at her friends and retorted, "Don’t all act like saints here. We all know how sour you are. If you want to pretend, then go ahead and do so. There is no way I am going to just sit there with a smile as if I am all okay with all this!"

The three girls looked at her, dumbfoundedly and didn’t know what to say. When Mary saw that, she picked up her bag and said, "I am leaving. I have other things to do. See you later," with that, she just marched out of the café without caring about what the other friends would say.

However, she didn’t get far as she shortly heard someone calling her name.

"Mary!" upon hearing the familiar voice, she tensely stopped in her tracks and turned her head to look in the other direction and surely the person she was afraid of meeting had already spotted her.

"Ruby!" she called out; her tone quite flat but Ruby didn’t catch that at all.

She was just happy seeing Mary.

Mary was a good friend. Among their group, Mary’s family was well off, better than them and she was very helpful. Seeing her when things were now good, she was happy. She finally felt like she could return all those good favors to Mary.

"Where are you going? Are others not here yet?" seeing that Mary was leaving, Ruby whose joy was still paramount, asked curiously as she approached Mary.

Mary looked at Ruby who had changed so much, it was simply so unbelievable and heart-wrenching.

She didn’t know what Ruby was up to in that big city but she was someone who wasn’t readily available at all. Perhaps it was the big city spirit affecting her that she no longer held dear the friends who were by her side when her life was miserable.

Seeing her all smile, looking rosy and glowing, Mary just couldn’t accept it.

she couldn’t sleep well last night, thinking about how she could treat Ruby when she saw her but now that she was seeing the person, she knew that it was impossible for her to pretend like it was okay.

The more she looked at Ruby, the more she felt like Ruby was pretending and being a faker. She felt a bout of nausea just thinking about it.

Her expression was simply so vivid that Ruby who didn’t catch anything at first started sensing that something was wrong and she became sullen as she asked Mary who hadn’t answered her, "are you okay?" suppressing the urge to ask her why she was making such a face at her.

However, that question only triggered Mary that she lashed out at Ruby, "are you asking me that question, for real?"

Ruby was taken aback by the sudden outburst.

What was going on?

Did she eat some hot chillies?

Otherwise, why would she suddenly explode for no reason like that?
