Sean listened with a downcast expression.
He started by being angry and felt rage towards Waylon, who had it all without even trying much.
The girl he fell hard for at first sight didn’t have him but thought of Waylon and yet his friend didn’t have an ounce of feeling towards Ruby.
That knowledge actually made his heart ache whenever he thought about how hard it was to pursue Ruby.
If it was Waylon who was pursuing Ruby, perhaps she wouldn’t have spent months being difficult but would be dating by now.
That difference at times made him feel bitter towards his friend. However, rationality always brings him back. After all, he had grown up with Waylon and despite Waylon hiding his identity, their group had always known. And Waylon was a straightforward person.
If he loves, he loves and if he doesn’t, he doesn’t fake it.
So, when he forthrightly told him that he wasn’t interested in Ruby, Sean believed him. Besides, at that time, Waylon was with Jackie, there was no way Waylon would have dated Ruby.
Of course, he had no idea that Waylon had a crush on Diamond at that time. by the time he learnt of that, he was truly shocked.
Anyway, back to the matter on hand, after listening to Waylon, his anger levels naturally raised. After all, it was the first time that he got chided by Waylon and moreover for a woman.
However, the more he listened, the more he softened as he started to dig deeper into what was wrong.
Pride.
He felt his ego bruised after getting sized up by Diamond that night. As if it wasn’t enough, Diamond had to go to such great lengths to pass more disturbing warning or advice through Waylon.
That didn’t settle well with him at all.
All this time, he kept asking himself.
Why was he suffering like this for a woman when there were so many willing to throw themselves at him?
Why should he go through all this just for someone he wasn’t even sure would give him a chance?
He felt unfair and so humbled, and he hated the feeling of being powerless.
If it were these ordinary girls, he might even use force but Diamond’s baby sister! Hehe, he would be playing with fire if he tried.
That was someone who befriended their patriarchs and to make matters even worse, Diamond owned a major share in his family’s business.
Would he dare offend such a person?
His father would even skin him alive. He didn’t dare try such a trick.
And then he recalled how, upon learning that he had been pursuing Ruby, she was so enthusiastic. All that just to have a handle on the share in Diamond’s hand.
For a moment, he hated how he was drawn towards Ruby.
After what happened a few nights ago, he just drowned himself in alcohol and hesitated thousand times to send her a message or call.
She didn’t even bother to engage him first as well. His ego was bruised even further.
Was it really worth it?
Waylon didn’t know what his friend was thinking but he could tell that he was no longer a porcupine like previously. So, he softened as he advised sincerely, "Sean, if you love Ruby, then I advise you to pursue her with sincerity. She is different from the other girls you have been with," and her sister is even worse.
If Sean knew that he was fighting hard to earn that second post and, in the future, there might be more men to share Diamond with, how would he react?
Anyway, that was his secret to keep and not share with his own friends for now.
Sean sighed deeply, letting out a turbid breath as Waylon’s heartfelt concern was fully felt.
If Waylon didn’t care about him, he wouldn’t have said so much today. Although he was angry earlier and was filled with unreasonable thoughts, he was grateful that he got such a scolding.
"Do you think that it’s too late?" thinking about how he didn’t contact her these days, he started panicking.
Waylon upon seeing that Sean’s mind was back to normal, chuckled lightly, feeling very relieved.
"Hehe, it’s never too late. For a man to be with the woman of his dreams, there is no such thing as being thick-skinned. You must do whatever it takes to make her remember that there is someone like you around her," he said earnestly thinking about how despite knowing that Gael was coming over, he even brazenly chatted with Diamond.
If he were thin-skinned and minded manners, perhaps he would be looking at Diamond from a distance now.
Sean, however, was slightly worried. After all, what if Ruby had been influenced by her sister.
However, Waylon laughed it off and earnestly advised, "That won’t be the case for certain. As long as you show your sincerity, Ruby is kinder than her sister. She will definitely forgive you!"
But if he dares try the same thing to Diamond, who knows what will become of him?
So, the two friends started discussing on how to win Ruby back and the first step was to send a message to gauge her reaction.
Without hesitation, Sean took his phone and started seriously typing a message, which took him a while, though the message was just a few sentences.
After much deliberation and deletion, he finally sent the message.
As soon as the message was sent, he sighed with relief but then waited nervously for a reply which never came.
His face went ashen pale as he looked at Waylon and fidgetily said, voice filled with worry and anxiety, "She has never taken this long to answer. Do you think that she is really angry at me?"
Waylon didn’t know how to respond to that but then he compared Sean’s situation to his and without confidence, responded, "She might be busy and away from her phone."
After all, there were times his messages were responded several hours later. He got used to it since Diamond at times would be so busy that she only responded at night. What if that was the case?
Unfortunately, Sean who wasn’t used to such, didn’t think the same.
He was worried and started having crazy imaginations.
Thankfully for Waylon, that panic made him very sober and Waylon watched an interesting drama as Sean tidied himself up while looking at his phone every moment.
He was reminded of the first days he started chatting with Diamond.
He was always on his toes.
It was good seeing Sean panicking like that.
It was probably karma.
It was always a bitch.
