Chapter 77: Divine Huntress!

Since he was finished with the tour, Damon decided to head back towards Artemis and Astralene, wanting to tell them about all the cool stuff he had seen and learn about the Dragon Clan.

With that, he also decided to Sign-In, asking the system in his mind.

[ Ding! Congratulations for Signing in the Law Of Space Rune.]

Damon looked at the descriptions of the rewards he had signed in.

[ Law Of Space Rune - A primordial rune containing traces of the Law of Space. When comprehended, it will grant the user a deeper affinity and understanding of spatial manipulation.]

A flicker of silver light materialized in his palm, revealing a crystalline rune the size of a coin. Its edges shimmered with impossible angles, folding in on themselves constantly

The longer Damon looked at it, the more he felt his senses distorting, as though his body was existing in two spaces at once.

"Law of Space..." he murmured, eyes narrowing. Without hesitation, he stored the rune in his personal dimensional storage. He would study it later, away from prying eyes and council gazes.

He need much more trump cards if he wanted to take down all his enemies, and the Law Of Space was one he couldn’t just let anyone know about, it needed to be kept a secret until the right moment.

With that done, he continued forward, retracing his steps through the garden courtyards. He soon passed the quiet terrace where Astralene had once spoken to him, now silent and lit only by the glow of floating star-lanterns.

As he moved forward, he spotted Artemis standing beside the reflecting pond, the glowing crystal tablet still hovering near her shoulder.

He cloaked his presence and stared at her, curious as to what she was up to. She had changed positions from before, now facing the moonlight, her nine luxurious fox tails swaying behind her.

Each of the tail had a radiant hue, from crimson, sapphire and silver, to violet, emerald and more. The most adorable part of her presence, however, wasn’t the mystic glow of her demonic aura... but her ears.

They twitched and flicked with every sound, reacting like fuzzy antennae to the night. Soft, downy fur with snow-white tufts and pink-tinted tips. They framed her delicate face, which was flushed slightly as she concentrated on her tablet.

Damon tightened his fist, remembering the soft fluffy feeling the last time he had teased her ears.

"Do you think I can’t sense you standing there?" A voice, as smooth as better yet as seductive as a succubus echoed in Damon’s ear.

He wondered how Artemis found him out, but looking at her, she had turned around with a shocked expression as well, leading to Damon to look around, where he eventually spotted her...standing right behind him.

His expression grew grim, the fact this lady evaded his senses meant she was so far ahead of him that he couldn’t defend against her even if he tried.

He looked at her, trying to see if he could recognize her. The lady was easily over 6’6, a statuesque beauty with an aura so overwhelming Damon could feel it from thirty paces away.

Her long, silken black hair flowed freely behind her like a river of midnight, and nine golden fox tails curled around her in an elegant crescent, each shimmering with celestial runes.

She wore a high-slit battle robe of obsidian and emerald silk, embroidered with hunting runes and blood moon sigils. Her figure was undeniably seductive, every curve accentuated by natural grace and deliberate poise. She radiated raw maturity, a mixture of motherly elegance and divine lethality.

Damon felt an ancient pressure on him when she stared at him, as if she was staring directly into his soul, not an Abyssal pressure, but a Divine Pressure.

Noticing her looks, there was only one person this could be.

The current Divine Huntress, Artemis’ mother and the current bearer of the ancestral mantle among the Demihumans.

The lady had a wry smile on her lips as her glowing golden eyes cheekily studied Damon, "So.....You’re the one who’s been corrupting my daughter’s thoughts lately."

Artemis immediately turned red, her tails puffing up as she ran across the room and stood next to the woman, squeaking as she spoke, "M-Mother!"

The tall woman merely chuckled and extended a hand toward Damon, her nails elegantly curved, "Talia. Divine Huntress. Current Matriarch of the Nine-Tailed Fox bloodline."

Damon stepped forward without flinching and took her hand with a nod, "Damon Rivelia, future Grand Duke of the Divine Demon Empire, The one and only Primordial Incubus Chaos Dragon."

A slow, amused expression curved her lips, "Mmm. So polite. I like that."

Her grip tightened slightly, as if testing him.

However, Damon didn’t yield.

Eventually, she released his hand and gestured for them to sit at the stone bench near the pond.

"I came as soon as I heard what happened," Talia said, seating herself gracefully with all the majesty of a queen, "Artemis is my only daughter. The last direct heir of our line. I would’ve preferred if she stayed hidden longer, but fate is impatient these days."

Artemis cleared her throat, cheeks still flushed, "Mother, Damon saved me when we were ambushed on Starlight Island. I chose to stay with him. It’s not like he dragged me here."

Talia raised an eyebrow, "And yet... you look at him like you already share a soul."

Damon shifted slightly but didn’t deny it. Artemis’ ears twitched furiously.

"I have to say," Talia went on, crossing her legs, "You’ve made quite a stir. Etching your name into all of those Domains is indeed revolutionary, and even that battle with Leiron, you’re quite efficient, and that Unicorn, it’s quite the beast, but what I find most interesting is..."

She leaned forward, resting her chin in one hand, golden eyes narrowing.

"...the way my daughter glows when you’re near."

Damon finally smiled, just slightly, "That goes both ways."

Talia blinked once.

Then laughed.

A low, husky sound filled with honest amusement, "Well, well. You’ve got fangs after all. Good. Artemis will need a strong partner if she’s to carry the Divine Huntress mantle into the future."

Artemis immediately turned her head and began casting a muffling spell, clearly mortified as she saw her mother embarrassing her in front of Damon, and there was nothing she could do, "Can we not talk about this in front of him?!"

Talia ignored her, focusing on Damon once more, "I’ve seen your potential, Sapphire speaks highly of you. But potential alone is never enough. I’ve killed people with your potential myself, so don’t get too cocky. There’s dangers all around."

Damon met her gaze evenly, "I already live with worse."

Talia leaned back with a satisfied nod. "Good answer."

For a few moments, the three of them sat in a surprisingly peaceful silence, the water of the pond shimmering with reflected starlight.

Eventually, Talia stood and turned toward Artemis, ruffling her hair and flicking one of her ears, earning a yelp from the embarrassed girl.

"I’ll be nearby. We’ll talk later, daughter. And Damon?" she added over her shoulder.

"Yes?"

"If you ever break her heart, I will hunt you through time itself. Don’t think I’m joking." Talia said, picking up a broken glass and infusing her mana into it, the glass slowly repairing itself, almost as if its time had been rewound.

Then she vanished in a blur of golden light, leaving only the faint scent of moonlotus and stardust behind.

Artemis sighed heavily and rubbed her face, "I am... so sorry."

Damon chuckled, "No need. She’s powerful. I respect that."

Artemis turned to look at him, eyes softening as a breeze carried her hair across her face.

The two of them walked to a nearby bench, Artemis’ fingers nervously toying with the hem of her sleeve. Her tails curled and uncurled behind her in a rhythm that betrayed her flustered state.

Damon leaned closer, resting one arm on the bench’s backrest, just behind her shoulder.

"So," he said, voice teasing, "glowing when I’m near, huh?"

Artemis turned an even deeper shade of red, her ears twitching wildly, "Shut up, shut up, shut uppp!"

"I mean," he continued, smug grin spreading, "if you wanted to confess, you could’ve just said so. You didn’t have to call down your mother and have her do it for you."

She shot him a glare, but the corners of her mouth were already twitching upward.

"Alright, alright, you smug chaos lizard," she muttered, then sighed, her gaze softening, "I guess you deserve to know."

Damon’s brow lifted, "Oh? So there is a story."

Artemis nodded, eyes flickering with memory,"For us Divine Huntress’, we’re born with multiple unique abilities. One of the ones I was born with was Spirit Sight."

Damon leaned in slightly, curious.

"It allows me to see the Lesser Spirits. They’re not strong enough to live in the Spirit World like World Spirits... so they linger here, in Austonia. Most people don’t even know they exist." She looked up at the sky, her voice wistful, "They’re playful... harmless. But what makes them special is their insight. They can see through a person’s heart. Their intentions. Their trustworthiness."

Damon’s eyes narrowed slightly in interest, "So they’re like little lie detectors?"

"In a way," Artemis nodded, "They can’t fight, and they can’t interact with the world. But they know. They always avoid people with cruel hearts or hidden motives. I’ve used them to guide my life... to avoid those who might betray me or lead me astray. It’s how I stayed safe for so long."

She glanced at him then, her expression more serious. "But the day I first saw you... everything changed."

Damon raised an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"It was at school with Elanore. I think. I was just walking past when I caught sight of the Lesser Spirits around you."

"And...?"

"They were everywhere," Artemis whispered, eyes distant, "Swarming around you like you were their long-lost family. Not even my mother, who is one of the most trustworthy and noble people I know, ever had that reaction. But with you..."

She turned to face him fully now, hands in her lap, "They danced and sang, if spirits can sing. I’d never seen anything like it. And you were a Demon. It didn’t make sense."

Damon tilted his head, an unreadable expression on his face, "Demons aren’t exactly known for being gentle."

"Exactly," Artemis nodded, "Even the good-natured ones tend to be more... primal. Impulsive. The Lesser Spirits usually keep their distance. But with you..."

She blushed again and looked down at her hands, "I figured... if the spirits trusted you, then I could too."

Damon remained silent for a long moment. Then, he chuckled softly, "So you’ve been watching me since then?"

Her blush deepened, "I had to be sure, okay? I didn’t want to be wrong."

"And?"

Her ears twitched, "You were even better than I thought."

Damon smirked,"So you fell for me."

"Don’t say it like that," she grumbled, hiding her face behind her hands.

"Fell hard, didn’t you?"

"I swear to the gods, I will drown you in this pond."

Damon laughed openly now, his eyes gleaming with affection as he reached out and gently tugged on one of her soft ears.

"You’re cute when you’re flustered."

She squeaked, jerking her head away and puffing her cheeks, "Stop teasing!"

"But why stop?" Damon leaned closer, his voice lowering. "You’re already mine, aren’t you?"

Artemis’s tails curled in a tight swirl behind her, fluffing up so much they resembled a pile of enchanted cotton.

She met his gaze, her lips parting slightly, "I was starting to think you liked Astralene."

"Hmm..." Damon tilted his head thoughtfully. "She is beautiful, and she did awaken calling me her soulmate... but if it really comes down to it, I’ll just have to start a harem."

Artemis gasped dramatically, "Shameless!"

He smirked, "You’re not against it?"

"I never said that." Her voice was a whisper now, sultry and warm, her golden eyes meeting his with fiery confidence. "But if we’re doing this harem thing, I’ll fight to be the main wife."

"Oh?" Damon’s eyes gleamed with challenge, "You think you can handle the competition? There’s probably hundreds of girls out there gunning for me."

"I don’t think, I know." She leaned in now, her lips dangerously close, "Because I saw you first."

There was no more space left between them.

Their lips met in a kiss that carried months of tension, warmth, and silent longing.

It was soft at first, a gentle meeting of souls, but it deepened quickly. Artemis rose onto her knees on the bench, her arms wrapping around his neck, her tails coiling behind her like an aurora of color.

Damon’s hand slid along her back, pulling her closer, his other hand rising to cup her cheek.

Their magic sparked faintly, foxlight and infernal stardust intermingling like fireflies under a dream-lit sky. By the time they broke the kiss, both of them were breathless, their faces flushed.

"...Damon," Artemis whispered, dazed and glowing.

From the shadows nearby, hidden in an invisibility veil only a High Huntress could cast, Talia’s voice suddenly drawled,

"Mmm. Not even my first kiss was that steamy."

Artemis screamed.

"MOM!"
