Chapter 269: Chapter 269: I Just Know He’ll Be Here Soon

Ling Luo really couldn’t run anymore. Yu Xia gave her an idea: hide and wait until the pursuers gave up on her and moved to catch others before sneaking in quietly. 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

Anyway, Luo Sheng had already gone in, so there still seemed to be a chance of winning.

Ling Luo knew her own limits, so she tearfully agreed and hid alone outside a grassy ski area in a milk tea shop, where she ordered a sweet milk tea to drink.

Meanwhile, Yu Xia and Xie Qingci successfully blended into a group of tourists, chatting and laughing with a family of three as they approached the entrance.

The pursuers were right in front of them. Yu Xia grew slightly nervous, secretly stood on tiptoe, and did a little warm-up to get ready to sprint forward at any moment.

Getting closer and closer, just as they were about to pass each other, one of the pursuers suddenly fixed their gaze on them.

"Yu Xia and the others are here!"

Two pursuers who were wandering nearby immediately ran over.

"Run!"

Xie Qingci grabbed Yu Xia and dashed towards the entrance right in front of them. With the intentional help of other tourists, they managed to dodge the grasp of the pursuers behind them, sprinting desperately.

The pursuers behind them were relentless.

Running at such a fast pace, Yu Xia soon became exhausted. Her heart felt like it was working overtime, and as she struggled to breathe through her nose, she opened her mouth to gasp, quickly feeling like her throat was painfully dry.

"I, I can’t run anymore," she said breathlessly to Xie Qingci, looking at the distant children’s playground, speaking in gasps, "You go, I’ll help you, help distract them... I can’t do it."

Suddenly slowing down, the pursuers quickly closed in behind her, and just as several hands were about to grab her, Xie Qingci gave her wrist a sharp tug!

She nearly flew from the force, stumbling but was pulled to his side. With his arm around her waist, they ran a short distance. Just beside her abdomen was his clenched fist, his hand only touching her arm.

"You go to the rainbow slide over there. Across from the slide is the finish line. Spend a little money to take a ride down the slide, and you’ll get there quickly. I’ll go from the other side, so take care of yourself!"

As soon as he finished speaking urgently, he lifted her by the waist and placed her on a sightseeing cart that had just pulled up.

The other tourists let out exclamations.

Yu Xia had just settled in and hadn’t yet come back to her senses when Xie Qingci was already running in the other direction, and two of the three pursuers, after a brief pause, went after him.

The remaining one turned to chase the sightseeing cart.

Gasping for breath, Yu Xia asked the tourists on the cart, "Could everyone do me a favor? I need to get to the rainbow slide; could the driver speed up a bit? I’ll cover everyone’s fare for this ride, and if you don’t mind watching slowly from here when I get off, would that be okay?"

The tourists realized they were filming a show and were quite excited and accommodating.

"No problem, no problem. It’s alright to speed up. We’re also heading to the rainbow slide."

"Driver! Please, speed up a bit! Don’t let that person behind us catch up!"

"They’re filming a show. Driver, if you speed up, you’ll be on camera too!"

Some children clapped and giggled, "Faster, faster!"

The driver got excited as well, cranking up the slow speed to the max, making it feel like a sports car drifting, with everyone swaying left and right at the turns.

Yu Xia looked back at the pursuer left far behind, unable to keep up, and breathed a sigh of relief.

With the driver’s extreme maneuvering, the sightseeing cart quickly reached the area outside the entrance of the rainbow slide.

She was the first to buy a ticket and ran in, then followed the staff up to the slide’s platform.

From the high platform, Yu Xia looked out and surveyed the scenery — the fields of rapeseed in the suburbs, the inflatable castles of the children’s amusement park, everything was in view.

It was also easy to spot the pursuers who were blocked below.

One of them was trying to circle around from the other side, likely intending to ambush her at the slide’s exit.

But since the exit was fenced off, they’d have to run a long way to get there, while she could slide down directly at double the speed or more.

The preparations were quickly done, and the staff gave her a push from behind.

With a whoosh, the donut-shaped seat cushion took her swiftly down the slide. The wind lifted her hair and scattered the heat she had worked up from running.

While people on the nearby slides screamed, she made no sound, silently adjusting her breathing and squinting to see the people around the children’s park clearly.

Whoosh — The seat cushion left the slide and landed on the cushioned mat below.

Yu Xia got up and exerted herself to run forward, using every bit of her strength and speed.

She swore, the speed she reached now was unmatched since she was chased by a dog and ran crying to find her brother as a child — a personal best.

After three minutes of mad sprinting, she was finally nearing the children’s park.

She had previously considered that many children played in the inflatable castles, so for safety reasons, the film crew probably wouldn’t place the finish line there.

If it wasn’t in the inflatable castles, the children’s off-road training sandpit was the most likely spot.

When she arrived, she hastily scanned the area. Indeed, there were no children, and at a finish platform about three meters high, a colorful flag fluttered in the wind.

To ascend the platform, one had to climb the final cargo net.

Taking advantage of the fact that there were no pursuers close by, Yu Xia ran to the back of the platform for a look.

It was a climbing wall with numerous handholds of various shapes and colors.

Climbing the net seemed easier, so she quickly scrambled up, teetering on the suspended ropes, feeling unsafe with sweat beading on her feet.

Then footsteps and voices sounded nearby again — the pursuers had caught up!

Using all her strength, she swung on the last segment of the net, flipped herself onto the platform, and, without the time to stand, reached out to grab the flag.

But she couldn’t pull it out.

She quickly rolled over to check. The flag was planted in a box with a lid imprinted with two palm marks, and a nearby indicator was glowing red.

...Perhaps, it seemed, two people needed to pull the flag simultaneously?

"Yu Xia? How did you get here so fast?!"

A commotion arose not far away. Luo Sheng, gasping like a dog, stared wide-eyed at her.

Two pursuers were following him as he ran in her direction.

"Did you pull the flag? Not yet? Then do I even need to climb up?"

Yu Xia looked at him from atop the platform, shaking her head, "One person won’t work; you need two people together."

"What?" Luo Sheng was shocked, "But, but the strategy Ling Luo and I came up with was to sacrifice one to protect the other!"

They had been quite upset when devising this strategy in the car.

Yu Xia flicked the hair stuck with sweat from her neck nonchalantly, "Then it seems you’re destined not to win. Ling Luo couldn’t run; she’s probably comfortably sipping milk tea outside now."

"..." Luo Sheng was still somewhat in disbelief, fumbling in an attempt to climb the net, "Are you tricking me? Does it really need two people to pull the flag? I want to come up and see."

"Then you’d better ask if the person behind you is okay with that."

Just as she finished speaking, Luo Sheng had barely set foot on the rope when the pursuer caught up with him.

She raised her fingers and mimicked a shooting gesture, "Oh, looks like this flag is ours."

Luo Sheng gritted his teeth and struggled, "Isn’t Xie Qingci not here either? How are you sure you won’t be caught first?"

She glanced to the back of the platform where a dark figure was racing in and arched a brow, "I just know. He’ll be here soon."
