Shoujo Hater-Chapter 8 - 7 : Baring Fangs
After Chloe Frost left, Lin turned around to find everyone staring at him with strange looks, as if he were an intruder who had dared to walk into a den of wolves.
He did not blame them. After all, he had just provoked that noble girl in front of everyone, and in the Frost territory, that counted as social suicide... and sometimes physical suicide as well.
His thoughts were cut short by the supervisor’s voice ripping through the air.
“Why are you all still standing?”
She did not even give them a chance to respond before adding coldly:
“Three hundred laps around the field. Now.”
Lin looked around. The training grounds were unlike anything he had ever seen or even read about. Even the gravel here felt like it was trying to pierce through his feet like sharpened spikes.
Despite all that, no one dared protest.
Everyone began running.
Lin’s breaths turned into pale clouds that faded into the cold air.
He observed the others’ expressions as if he were analyzing their behavior.
Some dragged their feet, others ran out of pride or fear.
But what truly caught his attention were three people watching him.
Two were strangers.
The third was someone he had heard of.
Everyone here called him Serk.
Serk’s hateful voice snapped Lin out of his analysis.
“I will make an example out of you, outsider.”
So they thought he was some rookie they could bully?
Good. It looked like they were knocking on death’s door.
In an instant, Lin read their expressions and understood exactly what they were planning. They began closing in on him, step by deliberate step, waiting for a chance to trip him... “by accident.”
Lin infused mana into his leg, shot backward with lightning speed, and adjusted his stance so that no one would notice.
Then...
Boom.
The result was simple.
The two attackers slammed straight into each other and collapsed in a humiliating heap, causing chaos that dragged the entire line down with them.
Only moments passed before the sound of something shattering echoed across the field.
The supervisor turned around, her expression dark with fury.
She grabbed a wooden stand loaded with practice swords.
Then she began.
Boom. Crack.
Lin instinctively closed his eyes at the pitiful sight.
The wooden swords came crashing down on their heads mercilessly until blood began to drip.
Her icy voice followed:
“Why did you stop? Do you want me to crush your skulls?”
Damn. This woman is absolutely feral.
Everyone immediately resumed running. Half of them collapsed soon after, like broken dolls scattered across the ground.
As Lin struggled to catch his breath, the cursed system’s voice rang out from nowhere.
[System Notification]: The key heroine has been detected: Luna Russel.
Lin sighed in annoyance.
“Hey, system. Did I not finish dealing with Chloe two hours ago?”
He glared at the empty air as if the system were standing there, his eyes narrowing at the usual nonsense.
“Is detecting girls your favorite hobby, you pile of scrap?”
As always, the system ignored him.
[New System Mission]
Mission name: Restore your dignity in front of Luna Russel.
Reward: Battle Sovereignty skill and fifty points.
Penalty for failure: Activate the title Gentle Flower Boy for two weeks.
Side effects:
All females look at you with pity.
All males despise you as a typical shoujo boy.
Your voice becomes automatically soft, and you are forced to end your sentences with “Ooooh be careful hubby” and “Whyyy did you do that to me babe.”
“You scrap heap... do you think I am a flower boy selling roses?”
Lin exhaled.
“Fine. Just do not complain when I turn you into a dating sim system. I will make your missions about flirting with refrigerators. And if luck smiles on you, maybe you will marry one and have a toaster baby with Bluetooth.”
The system replied emotionlessly:
Joke analyzed. Ineffective.
Suggestion: Improve your combat ability instead of rambling.
Lin let out a dry laugh.
“Great idea. I will start by improving my ability to fold annoying systems into tin cans.”
“You idiot... I just finished Chloe’s mission, and now Luna? Are you trying to kill me?”
The system answered coldly:
The system’s goal is to provide the best possible experience for the host.
“Wonderful. At least I will be remembered as the first man to achieve gender equality in distributing punches.”
The system responded:
How can you hit girls with no hesitation?
Lin raised a brow and smirked.
“You are the one assigning the missions. I am simply executing them. Ever heard what Batman said? The hammer of justice is unisex.”
Lin lifted his head and saw Luna Russel standing across the field, staring at him with an evaluating—or disgusted—expression.
The supervisor stood up, her gaze colder than a feral beast.
“We will begin the group combats now.”
Great. There really was no mercy here.
We just finished running twenty seconds ago.
She began forming teams.
“Team one: Ian Russel and Lin.”
Not bad. At least he had some genius with him.
Then someone placed a hand on Lin’s shoulder.
It was Ian, looking at him with excitement as if they were long-time friends.
“Let us see what you can do, bastard.”
“Just try not to be dead weight, Ian.”
Ian stared at him in shock.
“What? Do not get cocky!”
“Me? Cocky? This is called confidence, you skinny twig.”
“Begin.”
The supervisor did not even let them breathe before announcing the start of the first round.
Two opponents charged forward like enraged bulls.
Ian dodged his opponent and shoved him out of the ring, while Lin disarmed his opponent with ease.
“Winners. Ian and Lin.”
There was no time to rest. Training here was a continuous battlefield.
Round after round.
Stronger opponents.
Smarter tactics.
But Lin and Ian were faster.
Until they reached the finals.
Their last match was against Luna and Serk.
They stood across from them with unwavering determination.
Serk wore his usual arrogant look.
Luna stared sharply, judging every breath they took.
“Begin,” the supervisor announced.
Serk charged at Lin like a beast ready to tear him apart.
Ian faced his sister, Luna. He was immediately pushed to the edge of the ring.
Lin retreated lightly, using Serk’s pressure, then kicked Ian back into the center.
“Handle him.”
Leave Luna for me.
Then He adapted quickly to the flow of the fight thanks to his ridiculous talent.
Ian pointed at Lin in front of Luna.
“Try not to die.”
Luna clicked her tongue.
“Get out of my sight.”
Lin and Luna continued exchanging blows.
Her attacks rained down like a storm.
Strike after strike.
But Lin matched her movement for movement.
Then, in a single opening, he slipped past her guard and placed his wooden sword at her neck.
“It is over.”
[System Notification]: Mission Complete.
Luna Russel now recognizes you as an equal and worthy of respect.
But Luna could not accept it.
She lunged at Lin again.
Lin infused mana into his sword and, with a precise strike, sliced a piece of her clothing.
Her pale skin flashed for a moment.
Her face instantly burned red.
Serk lost his mind and abandoned his fight with Ian, charging at Lin like a madman.
Lin calmly dodged his wild swing. A serious expression crossed his face.
Then he countered with a series of sharp strikes, exploiting Serk’s rage and stupidity.
A strike to the ribs.
A strike to the jaw.
“Do not play the hero if you do not even meet the minimum requirements.”
But Lin wanted to ragebait him even more.
He delivered one final kick to the most painful place any man could be kicked.
Then leaned close to Serk’s ear and whispered in a voice only he could hear:
“Protect your lineage next time, you son of a whore.
Otherwise you will never get a girl, and even if you do, nothing will work.”
Crack.
Serk collapsed, writhing on the ground.
Silence swallowed the entire field.
Lin had no idea what he had just triggered in this world of knights.
And in the midst of the stunned silence, a cold shadow appeared behind him.
He turned around slowly.
And there she was.
The supervisor stood right behind him, her staff trembling.
“The rules of clean combat. Do you remember them?”
Lin raised a brow.
“It was a tactical move.”
The supervisor sighed.
“Fine. I will let it go this time since you are new. I will consider it a beginner’s mistake.”
Lin exhaled in relief, but then...
Boom.
Her staff exploded on top of his head, snapping in half...
sending Lin collapsing to the ground, unconscious.
