She Asks for a Divorce Again-Chapter 453: Suspicion
Chapter 453: Chapter 453: Suspicion
Snap.
Lu Yi’s phone fell to the ground, and he turned his head sharply to look at her like he had seen a ghost in broad daylight, and sure enough, he saw Shen Heyu standing behind him.
When had it happened? Since when was Shen Heyu standing there, listening to his phone call?
Lu Yi had no idea how much Shen Heyu had heard. Did she know who he was talking to?
In an instant, countless frightening thoughts flew through his mind. His face pale, he looked at Shen Heyu and tugged at the corner of his mouth, but he couldn’t utter a word because Shen Heyu was standing still, a grim look on her face as she stared at him.
Could it be?
That from the beginning, Shen Heyu had been standing behind him, eavesdropping on his conversation with Chen Wenzhou.
Had she guessed that Lu Yi and Chen Wenzhou were partnering against Pei Yansi? If she knew that, then the carefully laid plans between him and Chen Wenzhou would fall through.
Shen Heyu saw the fear in Lu Yi’s eyes. She stepped forward, bent down, and picked up the phone from the ground.
No, he couldn’t let Shen Heyu see the call log. The moment her hand touched the phone, Lu Yi snatched it away from her with lightning speed.
When the phone was quickly taken away, Shen Heyu felt as though her fingertip had been cut.
She paused, looking up at Lu Yi in disbelief. Why was he so guarded against her today, and why did he look so scared?
"Lu Yi, what are you doing?"
Although Shen Heyu hadn’t heard who Lu Yi was talking on the phone with, his reaction was a tell-tale sign that he had done something that couldn’t stand the light of day, which explained his panic.
Lu Yi clutched the phone tightly, feeling as if a mountain weighed on his heart.
He stared into Shen Heyu’s eyes, studied her face, trying to interpret her expression for some clue.
Had Shen Heyu actually heard the content of his phone call with Chen Wenzhou?
But after scrutinizing Shen Heyu for a long while, he couldn’t read anything from her face. His anxiety only grew deeper, and a cold sweat broke out in his palms.
"When did you get back? Didn’t you say you were going to the hospital to see Pei Yansi? How come you returned so soon?" Lu Yi didn’t answer Shen Heyu’s question.
This only made Shen Heyu more suspicious and curious about what he had been doing behind her back.
Shen Heyu glanced at the phone he was gripping so tightly and raised her eyebrows in confusion.
"I just got back not long ago. What were you really doing just now?" Shen Heyu persisted with her question, which somewhat relieved Lu Yi.
If Shen Heyu had overheard the contents of his phone call, she might have been able to guess who he was talking to. However, given Shen Heyu’s repeated inquiries, it seemed she really hadn’t heard the conversation.
Lu Yi breathed a sigh of relief, but he dared not let his guard down. He gave a distracted laugh.
"It was nothing."
"You still want to deceive me? With the way you just acted, how could nothing have happened?" Shen Heyu frowned.
At that moment, a bold idea suddenly popped into her head, and the words Pei Yansi had said began to echo mysteriously in her ears.
Lu Yi knew that Shen Heyu wouldn’t let this topic go so easily.
"If I tell you about this, you mustn’t get angry."
"Go ahead."
"Actually, I was just on the phone with my ex-girlfriend. If you don’t believe me, look."
Lu Yi generously handed his cell phone to Shen Heyu, unlocking it to reveal the recent call list. The top record was indeed saved as ’Ex-girlfriend,’ followed by a string of unfamiliar phone numbers.
That unfamiliar number was, in fact, Chen Wenzhou’s secret line. Even when working in collaboration with Lu Yi, they used a number unknown to others for contact.
Because Chen Wenzhou was so cautious, Lu Yi had also been prudent.
He deliberately saved his number as ’Ex-girlfriend’ just in case such an incident occurred today, and as fate would have it, it did.
Shen Heyu glanced at the number—unfamiliar—and saw it saved as ’Ex-girlfriend.’ She breathed a sigh of relief. She really feared that the matter at the abandoned factory was related to Lu Yi.
"Why are you so afraid of me knowing that you’ve been in touch with your ex-girlfriend? It’s okay. You don’t mind that I had a thing with Pei Yansi, so, of course, I don’t mind you having an ex-girlfriend."
Shen Heyu didn’t dwell on the matter; her heart was heavy, filled with concerns.
"I was just worried you’d overthink it. I’ll block and delete her number right now. I promise I won’t contact her again," Lu Yi solemnly assured Shen Heyu, who nodded indifferently, unconcerned about the whole affair.
"It’s okay, I’m tired today anyway. I’m going upstairs to rest early." Shen Heyu said wearily before turning and leaving the study.
After confirming her departure, Lu Yi picked up his phone and sent a message to the number saved as ’Ex-girlfriend.’
"Shen Heyu knows about this number now. You can’t use this number anymore."
Upon receiving the message, Chen Wenzhou immediately had the SIM card in his possession canceled and swapped out for a new one to continue communication with Lu Yi.
Lu Yi changed the memo for the new card to the name of someone from his company.
After returning to her room, Shen Heyu lay on the bed in a daze, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep.
Eventually, she went downstairs intending to pour a glass of water but accidentally let the glass slip from her grasp, shattering on the floor.
As Shen Heyu bent down to pick up the pieces, a shard pierced her fingertip, causing her to wince in pain.
The sound of the crash—
Lu Yi heard the noise and hurried downstairs. Upon turning on the dining room light, he saw Shen Heyu squatting on the floor, with beads of crimson blood oozing from her finger.
Concerned, Lu Yi went over to Shen Heyu, took her hand, and without hesitation, put her finger in his mouth.
Feeling the warmth at her fingertip, Shen Heyu almost subconsciously withdrew her hand, saying with a slightly awkward expression, "It’s okay, it’s just a minor cut."
"How can it be a minor cut? Come on, get up; I’ll get the first aid kit and treat the wound," sensing Shen Heyu’s physical withdrawal from him.
Lu Yi felt a moment of sadness and loss, but quickly fetched the first aid kit and tenderly treated her wound.
As Shen Heyu watched him care for her injury with such seriousness, her heart fluttered slightly.
"Lu Yi, I want to ask you something."
