Chapter 24: Chapter 24 His Gentleness

Pei Yansi’s soft demeanor was something Shen Heyu had never seen before.

Whenever he was with her, he always appeared cold and harsh, whether in kisses or in bed. But when facing Bai Sheng’er, he seemed like a completely different person.

His long, powerful fingers tied a butterfly knot on Bai Sheng’er’s wrist with a bandage.

Bai Sheng’er looked at him throughout the process with soft, loving eyes, making them appear like a loving couple, while she seemed nothing more than an outsider.

Shen Heyu gathered her thoughts and, seeing that he had completely forgotten about her presence, coldly reminded him, “Isn’t it time for her to leave?”

Pei Yansi felt a slight sinking in his heart.

...

He turned to look at Bai Sheng’er and saw tear stains at the corner of her eyes, feeling somewhat reluctant to let her go, he said gently, “I will take you to stay somewhere else tonight.”

Bai Sheng’er felt her heart beat faster, not out of affection but out of panic. She had just managed to get here with great difficulty, was she going to be chased out after just a few hours?

Her eyes blinked, and more tears rolled down, falling pitter-patter on the back of his hand.

Feeling the heat of her tears, Pei Yansi moved his hand slightly, suddenly uncomfortable. He casually grabbed a tissue from nearby and wiped off the tears on his hand.

Bai Sheng’er noticed this small gesture and felt a sting in her heart, faintly sensing his disdain for her. She became even more perplexed, wanting to gamble on what status she really held in his heart. Her crying became uncontrollable, “Is this Director Shen’s wish… Director Shen, please let me stay…”

She looked pleadingly at Shen Heyu with tearful eyes, like an ancient concubine begging the favor of the principal wife, humbling herself with underhanded tactics, crying, “I promise I won’t affect your relationship… I’m just afraid those thugs will come knocking again…”

Shen Heyu watched her performance coldly, her heart not stirring in the slightest and staying silent.

Her silence was as good as giving an answer. Pei Yansi didn’t say anything more for Bai Sheng’er. He stood up and said, “I’ll send you to a five-star hotel, and I’ll arrange for someone to protect you there. Those people won’t dare to come again.”

“And you don’t have to go to work anymore. I will give you enough money, and I will visit you often.”

He spoke gently, and he had done quite a lot.

Hearing this, Shen Heyu felt a pang in her heart, which was undeniable.

She had never inquired about his extramarital affairs, nor had he ever brought them before her. Bai Sheng’er was the first one, and what he had done for her surpassed what he had done for Shen Heyu in their years of marriage.

Shen Heyu lowered her gaze and looked away, refusing to watch them.

Pei Yansi noticed her subtle movement and guessed her feelings. His initial anger dissipated a bit, proving at least that she wasn’t entirely indifferent.

He continued to coax Bai Sheng’er, while Shen Heyu grew impatient, not there to witness their displays of affection. She grabbed her suitcase and turned to leave.

Pei Yansi saw her and furrowed his brows, quickly stepping forward to grab her hand, “Where do you think you’re going now?”

Shen Heyu turned around, giving a heavy smile, “Since you can’t make a choice, I’ll make it for you.”

“Go back, wash up, and get some sleep. Have I ever failed to keep my promises to you?”

Shen Heyu remained silent for two seconds, then went back to the master bedroom.

Before entering the bathroom to shower, she could still hear Pei Yansi in the living room, soothing Bai Sheng’er with a gentle and patient voice, using all the comforting words he could muster.

She heard him and for a moment she was stunned, because she had never imagined that such words would come from a man like him.

It’s just that they were never spoken to her.

Shen Heyu thought about the time they spent together, no matter when or where, whether she was angry or not, he always just scoffed and never comforted her, never spoke kindly, never paid attention to her emotions.

She didn’t have what Bai Sheng’er had received in full.

Except for the formal legal relationship, Bai Sheng’er was craving.

Shen Heyu laughed at herself mockingly. It really was just a besieged city. She picked up her things and went into the bathroom.

Outside, Bai Sheng’er saw that Pei Yansi had been coaxing her until the very end, and even though his tone remained gentle, the emotions in his eyes were growing colder and colder.

She knew that if this continued, he would lose interest in her even faster.

So, she finally managed to rein herself in. After he said another kind word, she broke into a tearful smile, hugged his neck, and kissed his cheek, pleading, “Then Yansi, you must visit me more often in the future, you promised me.”

Pei Yansi felt the affection on his cheek and knitted his brows faintly, his voice steady as he replied, “Hmm, I’ll take you out. A driver downstairs will take you to the hotel.”

Bai Sheng’er had wanted to ask why he wouldn’t take her to the hotel himself, but considering the time and the impatience hidden in his eyes, she didn’t ask further. Instead, she just smiled sweetly at him before leaving, displaying the innocent and pure side of a young woman to the fullest.

Pei Yansi thought her smile was very much like Shen Fanshuang’s: equally innocent and pure, with those doe eyes always appearing so wet and lovable.

He thought of Shen Fanshuang and the affection in his eyes softened. He slightly curved his lips as he watched her get into the car.

Once she had left, he turned around to return to the apartment, his handsome face regaining its usual indifferent and uninvolved expression.

He went back to the master bedroom and heard the sound of water from the bathroom. He thought of how she had gone to Doctor Lu’s home, and felt a certain distaste.

Men understand men best; how could he not see Lu Yi’s ideas and coveting?

And her? She still naively rushed to the man’s home, claiming they were just friends – a claim she alone might believe.

His masculine possessiveness and desire to conquer surged; his eyes filled with malice, fixed on the direction of the bathroom.

Not long after, Shen Heyu came out from the bathroom, her body only wrapped in a bathrobe. Because of the steamy water, her pretty face was a bit flushed, her eyes covered with a misty haze, looking very tempting at a glance.

Pei Yan felt a tightening in his lower abdomen.

As she sat on the edge of the bed, he reached out and pulled her into his arms, his thin lips pressing tightly against her ear, his tone three parts questioning and seven parts doubtful, “What exactly is your relationship with that Doctor Lu? What did you do at his home for so many hours?”

Adults all, Shen Heyu could easily hear the implications in his words. Her eyes darkened, “Don’t think everyone is as vile as you.”

Pei Yan chuckled disdainfully, “Me vile? Is your Doctor Lu not vile?”

Coveting her openly and secretly, trying to get close under the guise of friendship, taking advantage when vulnerable – what’s his motive?

Shen Heyu didn’t want to engage with him. She casually glanced over and noticed that the wedding rings on the nightstand were missing.

She frowned, retorting, “Where did you put the wedding rings?”
