Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love-Chapter 326 - 339: Every Couple Torn Apart Is a Victory
She suspected she was hallucinating before dying, but on closer inspection, it was indeed Ouyang Yi.
It must be an illusion...
She thought miserably, if even Lu Shifeng wouldn’t come to rescue her, why would Ouyang Yi?
But that man really rushed to her bedside, looking at her battered body with shock and heartache: "Oh my God... Xingyu, how did you end up like this? Was it that beast Lu Shifeng?"
She couldn’t respond, in a daze, even in her dying moments, she futilely tried to curl her body, not wanting him to see her uncovered, with only a thin sheet partially covering her.
It was too humiliating.
Yet Ouyang Yi seemed not to notice this, anxiously calling her: "Xingyu, can you hold on? I’ll get you out now, hang in there!"
She couldn’t hold on any longer, not even having the strength to nod, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at him, unable to speak because her mouth was gagged.
He didn’t first remove the obstruction from her mouth as the fire spread, leaving them with pitifully little time. He tugged at the sturdy steel chain on her wrist, tightly bound, and asked, "Did Lu Shifeng lock you up? Do you know where the key is? He should have left it in the bedroom, right? No way he’d carry it around with him like a pervert!"
Su Xingyu weakly tilted her head, indicating a direction to him.
The fire was spreading aggressively, and the direction she pointed to was already ablaze. Ouyang Yi tried twice to charge forward but failed, on the third attempt, he muttered an excuse and quickly pulled away the thin sheet half covering her, using it to beat back some flames, and then resolutely charged forward, opening the drawer.
Su Xingyu looked at him with anxiety, fear, and worry; she saw the thin shirt he wore catching flames, singeing his hair and releasing a burnt smell. The shirt quickly lost half a sleeve, the flames licking his well-toned arm, causing the proud model-like arm to instantly blister and burn with charred black and dark red wounds spreading rapidly.
Su Xingyu’s dry eyes could not help but tear up again, desperately trying to utter a sound to urge him to leave, but Ouyang Yi had his back to her, completely focused on finding the key in the cabinet drawer.
After finally finding it, his arms and chest had several new burns. He had to roll on the ground a few times before managing to extinguish the flames on his body. He stood up shakily, taking the key back to her bedside.
"Hold on; it’s okay," he said, grinning despite the pain, his handsome face covered in soot and looking utterly disheveled, yet in her eyes, it was his most attractive moment. He swiftly unlocked the shackles on her wrists, then those on her feet, and despite his injuries, he scooped her up horizontally.
The flames had already spread to the bed, igniting the pillow where she had just been lying. In his haste to pick her up, he accidentally knocked off the diamond wedding ring she wore on her finger.
The brilliant diamond silently rolled to the ground, but with her heart and spirit shattered, she didn’t even notice.
Ouyang Yi held her, shielding her from any collapsing furniture or debris with his body and paused at the large hole by the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Su Xingyu also looked at this big hole; it was from the second floor, not too high nor too low.
If it were someone as strong as Ouyang Yi jumping down, he’d probably be fine, but adding her into the equation wouldn’t work; in her current physical condition, she couldn’t withstand any collision.
She reached out weakly to push him away, nodded her head up at him, wanting him to put her down and jump by himself as, after all, this was a fire scene; if they didn’t leave now, both of them could die here.
Ouyang Yi understood her intention.
But he merely flashed a roguish smile and said, "Little beauty, do you think I’ll give up on you just like that? That would go against my principle of heroically rescuing a damsel in distress."
Saying this, he gently laid her on the ground, removed the tattered shirt burnt to shreds on him, and wrapped it around her.
She was both embarrassed and awkward; without the thin sheet from the bed, she was completely exposed to his view. And Ouyang Yi’s way of wrapping the shirt wasn’t meant to maintain her modesty; several indescribable areas were still on display, whereas her shoulders, back, and arms were tied up just like how mothers from the mountains carry their children.
Her face turned crimson, wishing she could just faint right there.
Yet his gaze was serious; a person usually so flirtatious, at this moment didn’t have a trace of frivolity, not even glancing where he shouldn’t.
He merely frowned, assessing the strips of shirt tied around her, feeling dissatisfied, and started removing his trousers. "Beauty Xingyu, don’t mind," he said light-heartedly while joking, "I’m not deliberately being a rogue; just want to tie you more securely. Otherwise, if I drop you while climbing out the window, that would be troublesome."
His physique was excellent, left in only a pair of boxer briefs, revealing a perfectly exercised body.
But Su Xingyu was in no mood to admire, just cooperating with him, letting him wrap the outer pants over her atop the shirt; only then was he reassured, hoisting her up and tying the clothes securely to himself.
"Hold on tight," he instructed.
The fire was fierce, and even standing by the window, the heat felt as though it could engulf everything. Su Xingyu’s skin stung from the searing heat.
Ouyang glanced at the terrain, disregarding the risk of injury, and grabbed a pillar covered with glass shards, painstakingly changing footholds a few times until they landed safely.
By then, his entire body had been sliced to shreds by the glass, bleeding profusely, hardly recognizable.
Elsewhere in the villa was also ablaze, thick smoke spewing forth.
Ouyang Yi set her down on the lawn in the villa’s backyard, untying the tattered cloth strips from her body, and this time used another method to cover her, making sure she wasn’t exposed.
She looked at him gratefully.
At this moment, he still had the mood to joke: "Little beauty, don’t look at me with such eyes; it will make me proud. How about repaying me with your affection if you’re so touched?"
She laughed at his joke, but tears involuntarily streamed down her face.
He reached out to wipe her tears: "Why cry when I’m here?"
He picked her up again, eyed the direction, and dashed out through the corridor, living room towards the main entrance.
Along the way, the fire was spreading, the air filled with a pungent smell, the villa empty and devoid of any people, unsure where Mrs. Gui and the butler had gone.
Ouyang Yi carried her out of the villa, got her into his car, and as the vehicle started, she watched the villa engulfed in thick smoke recede into the distance through the car window, feeling that something within her was being consumed by the flames.
The car hadn’t gone far when suddenly, it was stopped.
