Seventies Sweetheart: From Breakup to Billionaire-Chapter 284: Do You Really Treat Me as a Friend?
The Cheng Family doesn’t have rules about not speaking during meals, but Cheng and his father, along with Cheng Jinyun, aren’t talkative people.
So at the dining table, it was mostly Lin Xiang and Aunt Cheng who occasionally chatted.
After dinner, Uncle Cheng took the initiative to chat with Lin Xiang.
"I heard from Ah Yun that you plan to open a small restaurant? Didn’t he already transfer Quanfu Building to your name? Why do you still want to open a restaurant on your own?"
Facing Uncle Cheng’s inquiry, Lin Xiang answered honestly.
"Opening a small restaurant is a shared wish of my mom and me. I’m currently studying at university in Beijing, and my mom wants to stay here with me. If she doesn’t have something to do, I’m afraid she’ll overthink things and become idle and wasted. Moreover, we have experience running a stall back in Mianyang Town, so opening a small restaurant is a piece of cake for us."
"As for Quanfu Building, although my brother did transfer it to me, we’ve agreed that I will only manage it, and he will give me annual dividends. If he gets married in the future and his wife minds it, I can change the name."
"I know my brother wants to give me some security. But Quanfu Building is the effort of his grandfather and mother over the years, so I can’t claim it as my own."
Lin Xiang’s words left everyone present, except Cheng Jinyun, in silence.
Previously, when Uncle Cheng helped Cheng Jinyun regain ownership of Quanfu Building from Cheng Jianfeng, Cheng Jinyun expressed his intention to transfer it to Lin Xiang.
This proposal was met with unanimous opposition from the three members of the Cheng Family.
The reason for opposition was simple, Quanfu Building was established with great effort by Cheng Jinyun’s grandfather. It was occupied by Cheng Jianfeng all these years, and just as it finally returned to Cheng Jinyun, he wanted to transfer it to someone else, which seemed inappropriate.
However, the three members of the Cheng Family had not thought that Lin Xiang would claim Quanfu Building as her own.
During their brief interactions in Mianyang Town, Uncle Cheng had realized that Lin Xiang wasn’t a greedy person.
Therefore, under Cheng Jinyun’s insistence, he didn’t object further.
Hearing Lin Xiang say this face to face, Uncle Cheng felt that he was indeed narrow-minded.
Aunt Cheng hadn’t given it much thought. She asked Lin Xiang, "So where do you plan to open your small restaurant?"
"Right at the East Gate of Huaqing University. With Brother An’s help, I previously bought a house at the East Gate. Later, I had someone renovate it to open a small restaurant, which is just right. As for kitchen help, my brother has already found someone for me, and they’ll be in place by tomorrow morning."
It’s not popular to hang plaques now, so these prep works aren’t needed, and the restaurant can start operating during lunch tomorrow.
"As it happens, I don’t have anything to do tomorrow, and neither does Lao Cheng, right? Shall we go together to congratulate Xiangxiang?"
Lin Xiang was startled and repeatedly declined, "Please don’t! Aunt, I’m just opening a small restaurant, there’s no need for such a fuss."
"How is this a fuss? We can support you!"
But Lin Xiang still found it unnecessary.
If her eatery could operate on the scale of Quanfu Building, Lin Xiang would hassle Aunt to come even if she didn’t offer.
Because their presence would lend her eatery greater prominence.
But now she was just opening a small restaurant, targeting Huaqing University students, and the presence of Uncle and Aunt Cheng would feel somewhat out of place.
Furthermore, Lin Xiang knew that Uncle and Aunt Cheng were kind to her out of consideration for Cheng Jinyun.
Consuming that goodwill over such a trivial matter seemed not worth it.
Cheng Jinyun, noticing Lin Xiang’s troubled look, guessed her difficulty and said, "Aunt, it might not be convenient for you and Uncle to appear."
"I’m planning to find a few sisters-in-law from the family quarters to help out at Xiangxiang’s small restaurant. They’ve all seen you, Uncle. If you appear tomorrow, they’d know, which could have a bad effect."
Aunt Cheng regretted, "Alright then, I’ll come alone sometime later and not bring your uncle."
As she spoke, Aunt Cheng even glanced resentfully at Uncle Cheng.
That look seemed to say he was really in the way.
Uncle Cheng was also helpless and could only silently digest this himself.
Seeing that it was getting dark, Lin Xiang took the initiative to say her goodbyes.
"My driver is still waiting outside, let him take you home. Ah Yun, where will you stay tonight?"
When Uncle Cheng was asking, Cheng Jinyun had already stood up and stood beside Lin Xiang, making his intentions quite clear without needing to say it aloud.
Lin Xiang again declined Uncle Cheng’s kind offer, "Thank you, Uncle, but I still need to visit the medical college, so I won’t trouble you."
"At this time, there’re almost no buses. From the military district compound to the medical college, it’s at least an hour and a half walk. Let the driver take you; don’t worry about the inconvenience."
Since Uncle Cheng said so, Lin Xiang couldn’t strongly refuse anymore and could only board Uncle Cheng’s official car with Cheng Jinyun.
The driver was Uncle Cheng’s guard, had been with him for years, and naturally knew the relationship between Cheng Jinyun and Uncle Cheng.
"Mr. Lin, I’ll first take you to the medical college, and then I’ll wait at the entrance to take you home afterwards."
Beijing Medical College.
After getting off, Lin Xiang and Cheng Jinyun headed straight for the girls’ dormitory.
Having been to drop off Ge Yuanyi at the school before, Lin Xiang easily found Ge Yuanyi’s dormitory.
She knocked on the door but didn’t see Ge Yuanyi.
"I remember you. You’re Ge Yuanyi’s friend, right?" The roommate who opened the door saw Lin Xiang, "Yuanyi’s been hospitalized, didn’t you know?"
"What?" Lin Xiang’s voice suddenly raised, "Ge Yuanyi’s hospitalized? When did this happen? Why was she hospitalized? Which hospital is she in now?"
Lin Xiang asked three questions consecutively, and the roommate patiently answered all of them.
"It’s already the third day today. It started when she had a dispute with another roommate and, in the heat of the moment, the other pushed her, causing her head to hit the desk. She’s hospitalized at our school’s affiliated hospital."
"Thank you, I’ll go see her now."
Lin Xiang turned and ran.
The roommate grabbed a coat and quickly chased after her, "You probably don’t know the way. Let me take you."
Down in the dormitory, Cheng Jinyun was originally waiting, but upon seeing Lin Xiang’s worried look and hurried steps, he followed her without much thought.
In the ward.
Seeing Lin Xiang, Ge Yuanyi immediately hid under the covers.
Though she was the one injured, she was also the one feeling guilty.
Seeing her like this, Lin Xiang felt uncomfortable inside, "Why didn’t you tell my mom and me about your serious injury? Yuanyi, do you even consider me a friend?"
Ge Yuanyi pointed to her bandaged head, "It’s serious to look at, but not at all serious."
"But we’re medical students, and my roommates were worried, so they brought me to the hospital directly."
