Sequence Highway Survival: I Upgrade Supplies in the Apocalypse-Chapter 296: I’d Believe You When Pigs Fly
When the first morning sun spilled onto the green grass, the dewdrops on the leaves glittered under its light.
Those droplets hung like crystalline diamonds along the leaf edges, weighing them down into a slight bow.
As drops fell, the leaves rebounded slightly, flinging the remaining sparkling dew into an arc of light.
Smoke from the campfires had already begun to rise.
Someone was pouring the stored clean water into a pot from a vehicle.
Having endured Yanzhou, no one among the survivors valued water more.
Even though they were no longer in the desert environment,
the survivors still habitually stored drinking water.
Who knew where the next resupply point would be.
Huang Di had not slept well that night.
After learning yesterday that Chu Che and the others might have taken the Resentment Dragon Scale, Huang Di couldn’t stop thinking about getting back what he believed belonged to him.
If it had been other items, like supplies,
he wouldn’t have cared so much.
As a Sequence 3 dreamer, material wealth wasn’t abundant but it wasn’t lacking either.
Besides, he had stockpiled supplies in a place nobody suspected, so even without scavenging more, those reserves would last him a long time.
Little Dezi carried in a bowl of rice noodles.
This was His Majesty’s breakfast for the morning, and Little Dezi was very careful.
When he brought it in, many survivors couldn’t help swallowing as they looked at the bowl.
“His Majesty…”
Huang Di didn’t even glance at the noodles, he hurriedly asked, “Little Dezi, are they awake yet?”
Little Dezi of course knew who he meant.
Actually Huang Di had wanted to go last night.
But it had been too late, and since the item was in someone else’s hands, disturbing their rest could have led to trouble if they got angry and refused to hand it over.
After all, the borrower still owes the big man!
Putting himself in their shoes,
even if he had obtained such an item, he wouldn’t hand it over easily either.
Even though he hadn’t seen the item with his own eyes,
just recalling the Resentment Dragon’s might made him sure the dragon scale was no ordinary thing.
After thinking of many approaches, the Fat Guy decided it was best to ask for it directly.
“His Majesty, Miss Ding Dong is already awake. Right now she’s having her flower pots moved outside to get some sun.”
When he heard Ding Dong was awake, Huang Di didn’t hesitate and left the tent.
From a distance he saw a plain-looking woman with a warm temperament intently inspecting the pots laid out on the ground. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
The morning light illuminated the woman’s single arm, making the scene look like a famous painting.
Not far off, a striking figure was meticulously practicing fists against the morning glow, sweat sparkling in the sunlight and making the eyes dizzy.
The Fat Guy glanced once, then turned his attention back to the one-armed woman.
“Good morning, Miss Ding Dong!”
He wore a bright smile as he walked over.
“Good morning, His Majesty. Are you out for a stroll today?”
Ding Dong’s reply made the Fat Guy a little embarrassed, but he still laughed it off.
They exchanged a few polite words while his eyes roved around.
He seemed desperate to catch sight of that piece of dragon scale.
Unfortunately, he found nothing.
Unable to contain himself, the Fat Guy blurted out, “Sister Ding Dong, I’ll be blunt. I came to ask you to give that Resentment Dragon Scale back to me!”
Ding Dong’s hand trembled. She hadn’t expected him to be so direct and felt suddenly uneasy.
“Uh… Huang Di, that dragon scale…”
Seeing Ding Dong’s expression, Huang Di’s face darkened and his heart sank.
“Sister Ding Dong, among your convoy, you’re the kindest and the least likely to lie!”
“When we were on the Old Ox Mountain Ancient Path, I heard your voice and thought you were honest, which is why I got Little Dezi to agree to lead the way earlier.”
“Sister Ding Dong, I know people like you don’t lie.”
“You saw the situation at the time. Because of that dragon scale I lost everything!”
“By rights, that thing should be mine!”
On and on he went…
Ding Dong’s embarrassment deepened.
Actually she also felt that the Resentment Dragon Scale should be returned to someone else.
After all, the scale fell from the Resentment Dragon’s back and had nothing to do with her or her companions.
And the Fat Guy had been through a lot; he’d lost everything over that scale.
Chen Ye and Chu Che doing what they did felt a bit inappropriate.
But—
the thing simply wasn’t in her hands.
And trying to get Chen Ye and Chu Che to spit out what they’d eaten, those two rascals would never agree.
Ding Dong was torn; this was not something she was suited to handle.
If it came to a fight, she wouldn’t hesitate and would not back down.
But to swindle someone…
she instead pretended to be very busy, focusing on tending the potatoes before her.
The Fat Guy kept salivating, trying to persuade Ding Dong.
They went back and forth, each doing their thing, not interfering with the other.
As for the girl practicing fists in the distance, she remained completely absorbed, sweat dropping to the ground, with no thought to look over.
After quite a while, the Fat Guy stomped off red-faced.
Ding Dong watched him go and let out a long, thick breath.
Her face was flushed.
She agreed with much of what the Fat Guy said, yet she couldn’t help him get those things back from Chu Che and Chen Ye.
Even if she tried demanding them back, Chen Ye and Chu Che weren’t fools; they certainly wouldn’t hand them over.
Ding Dong felt she had been led astray by Chen Ye and Chu Che.
Previously, she would never have done such things.
She never expected that now she would…
“His Majesty, what should we do next?”
“What else can we do but find Iron Lion? That guy is dumb; maybe we can get something out of him.”
In the open space, Iron Lion’s four arms were busy making movements.
He was planning to integrate the Diamond Demon-Subduing Fist he had exchanged from the Big Monk into his four arms.
Hearing someone call for him, Iron Lion happily stopped his work.
But when he heard “dragon scale,” he tensed slightly; his face stiffened and his body tightened.
He knew about that item.
Chen Ye had told him earlier that the scale accounted for a share of his.
Although Iron Lion was simple-minded, he put brothers first.
It was clear Chen Ye cared a lot about that scale, so now that someone had come to demand it, Iron Lion would absolutely not betray his brothers.
“Huh? What did you say? I don’t understand.”
“Sorry… I didn’t sleep well last night, I can’t hear what you’re saying.”
“What dragon?”
“What scale?”
“I haven’t seen any!”
“It’s not with me, not with Chen Ye, Chu Che didn’t take it, Ding Dong and Xixi don’t know either…”
“Believe me, we don’t know anything!”
The Fat Guy’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.
I’d believe you when pigs fly!
If he didn’t think he might not be a match for Iron Lion,
today he would have fought that dumb brute to the finish.
