Chapter 50 - Local Doctors Concerned as Radioactive Grasses And Florida Man’s Blood Appeared On Drugstore’s Shelves
The mnemonic verses were short, but Fu Tong spoke with his Qi. His voice resounded throughout the shopping district.
A hundred outer disciples sat cross-legged and closed their eyes, digesting the information. Some of them circulated Qi into their lungs and gradually changed their breathing paces.
Fu Tong sighed and quietly leaped over the crowd. He softly landed at the entrance of a 3-story wooden building. Upon entering the place, he was greeted by an elderly alchemist, who had been leaning against the wall and eavesdropping on the earlier mnemonic verses.
The half-bald elder was merely 160 cm tall and had a hunchback. He wore a brown uniform with an emblem of an alchemy department. His energy was entirely contained within him, making him appear like an ordinary person.
However, the floating green text above his head said otherwise.
Name: Zou Laoye

Zou Laoye supervised this pavilion. He was an expert alchemist in charge of supplying pills to the sect, and he also accepted disciples who were interested in alchemy.
"You sure are kind. No one would have shared a heaven-grade breathing technique like that." Zou Laoye laughed. "But that breathing technique is only useful for those with a pure heart. It should have been passed down to monks."
The breathing technique that Fu Tong shared with everybody was called ’Lungs of Virtuous Warrior’. Anybody who started breathing using this method would automatically equip it to their status and enjoy its perks.
It offered some benefits to those who walked the path of light, but it would punish outlaws.
Lungs of Virtuous Warrior
- Increase Vitality and Wisdom by 333.
- Increase Strength, Vitality, Dexterity, and Wisdom by 777 if the practitioner has never committed a crime.
- Enable ’Limit Break Blessing’ if the practitioner has at least one merit coin.
- If the practitioner is a criminal, decrease all status attributes by 50%. This breathing method cannot be unequipped until you’re punished for your crime.
Free attributes were nice to have, but they didn’t offer a good value. From a saint’s or an immortal’s standard, the bonus was too low. It only benefited cultivators below the immortal realm.
This was one of many reasons Fu Tong never equipped or seriously practiced any immortal-grade or heaven-grade cultivation methods. If he equipped any skill or ability, replacing it would become a hassle, as it required a saint-grade consumable treasure to reset the slot. Instead of seizing the immediate gain, Fu Tong patiently waited.
Fu Tong lowered his head and paid respect to Zou Laoye.
"Beggar can’t choose. It’s better to encourage people to be nice than raising villains."
Zou Laoye cackled. "But aren’t you a villain yourself? I smell blood from your hands from here."
Fu Tong wryly smiled. He sometimes hated alchemy experts, for they had keen noses.
"They’re from criminals. I have nothing to be ashamed of."
"Well, of course!" Zou Laoye laughed and guided Fu Tong to the first floor’s counter, where one of his disciples worked.
Behind the counter, an alchemist was in the middle of arranging herbs on the table. Seeing the elder and a new disciple, he stopped working to assist them.
"Is there something you need?" asked the deacon.
Fu Tong stated his business. "Are you selling any heaven-grade cauldron or a furnace?"
The deacon almost swore out loud, but he managed to close his mouth on time. He coughed and refuted.
"Ahem! Are you kidding me?! Our most expensive cauldron is only earth grade!"
Fu Tong was disappointed. Still, it was better than nothing.
He needed a cauldron to concoct his own pills. After all, the quality of the store’s elixirs and pills was subpar. It would be better to make his own items as he knew more recipes.
"I’ll take it. Is there a catalog for that?"
Zou Laoye inserted himself into the conversation. He flicked his wrist, sending a palm-sized three-legged blue bowl onto the table.
"This is an earth-grade cauldron, Air Brewer. It specializes in wind concoctions and condensation, so you can make high-grade pills without mastering fire spells or heat spells. Also, this is not its real size. You need to channel Qi into it, and it will revert to the actual size."
Zou Laoye skipped some details, testing Fu Tong’s alchemy knowledge. He omitted the part that the cauldron was not beginner-friendly, and that ’wind concoction’ was an intermediate concoction technique, which could not be learned without practicing.
Fu Tong inspected the Air Brewer and sighed in disappointment. He wanted a real heaven-grade cauldron so that he could make some spirit-grade elixirs, which ranked between heaven and the immortal grade. With an elemental cauldron of earth-grade, Fu Tong could only make low-quality heaven-grade elixirs at best, which was not enough to complete a perfect foundation establishment ascension pill.
Just in case, he asked.
"By chance, do you have any Perfect Foundation Establishment Ascension pill?"
Zou Laoye shook his head while the deacon’s expression became one of ridicule. The deacon patiently lectured Fu Tong.
"Junior. Every perfect ascension pill is a heaven-grade treasure. If we had one, we would have become one of the top sects in the Grand Jade Continent."
Fu Tong shrugged as he expected the answer. He changed the subject.
"Fine. Do you sell herbs and pill ingredients?"
"Yes. What do you need?"
"I need 100 sets of Black Radiation Grass, a vial of Flower Blood, and Crystalized Yang Wind. I’ll also take the cauldron of the elder."
Zou Laoye and the deacon gave Fu Tong a meaningful look again. Based on the ingredients and the cauldron’s specialties, they figured that Fu Tong was planning to make high-tier wind element pills.
The elder tested Fu Tong again.
"What are you planning to make Flower Land Elixir?"
Fu Tong nodded. "Yes, so?"
"Flower Land Elixir is indeed helpful in speeding up your Qi absorption rate, but it has a lot of impurities. You need to increase its concentration level to over 90%, otherwise it will become a poison pill. Are you sure you’re skilled enough to achieve that?"
Pill concentration was a technical term for insiders in the alchemy field. When making elixirs or pills, they could adjust the pill concentration rate to increase the efficiency, but it also consumed more ingredients. The failure rate was also greater than making average pills as it required a precise Qi manipulation techniques and almost perfect flame control mastery.
Fu Tong wasn’t worried about those. He put a plaque on the counter and asked the deacon.
"Give me the listed ingredients, all ingredients you have in store. I have points."
The deacon glanced at the plaque and almost vomited blood.
"A-A million contribution points?!"
Fu Tong smirked. Being a pay-to-win in the real world felt nice.
"Get to work, please. I’m busy."
"..."
The deacon glanced at the elder, who reluctantly nodded. Zou Laoye sent a telepathic voice to the deacon.
’Give him what he wants. I want to see how he will concoct them.’
The deacon nodded and rushed to the storeroom, where the sect kept the medicinal herbs and pill ingredients.
