Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Pressed into His Embrace, His Grip Heavy

The Rolls-Royce sped through the night.

Adrian Lancaster leaned back in his seat, resting with his eyes closed. His posture was ramrod straight, and he exuded an unapproachable aura.

Wren Sutton was on pins and needles. She did not want to go back to their marital villa.

"Stop the car. I want to get out."

"..." The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, not daring to act on his own authority.

Adrian Lancaster ignored her. The driver understood his silence, not daring to disobey or speak out of turn, and continued driving toward the villa.

Wren Sutton seethed internally, but she didn’t want to make things difficult for the driver. She turned to Adrian Lancaster and said, "Tell the driver to stop."

"And then what?" Adrian Lancaster asked, his eyes still closed.

Wren Sutton knew his temperament; he responded to a soft approach, not a hard one.

She calmed down and said in a mild, pleasant tone, "My parents are waiting for me at home. I have to go back tonight."

Adrian Lancaster was silent for a moment before opening his eyes. His gaze was pitch-black, deep and imposing.

"You’ve been staying with your family long enough."

Wren Sutton didn’t think so.

"It’s only been a week. My mom wants me to stay a little longer."

Adrian Lancaster was skeptical. "Is that really what your mother wants, or is it what you want?"

"Of course it’s my mom’s idea. Call her and ask if you don’t believe me." Wren Sutton wasn’t the least bit flustered.

"It’s too late. A call would disturb your parents."

"It’s not late. It’s not even ten yet."

Adrian Lancaster averted his gaze and didn’t respond.

He was determined to take Wren Sutton back with him tonight, no matter who tried to stop him.

The man’s attitude was clear, leaving no room for negotiation. Wren Sutton was fuming.

’I can’t just jump out of the car, can I?’

Neither of them spoke.

The driver held his breath, not daring to make a sound.

A moment later, Adrian Lancaster suddenly lowered the partition, breaking the silence.

"If I hadn’t been there just now, whose belt would you have taken off?"

Wren Sutton: "..."

"Answer me." His voice wasn’t loud, but his tone was forceful.

Wren Sutton was still angry and didn’t give Adrian Lancaster a pleasant look.

"I don’t answer hypothetical questions."

"Afraid to answer?"

"Don’t try to provoke me. I’m not falling for that."

Adrian Lancaster frowned. Without another word, he pulled Wren Sutton onto his lap, wrapped an arm around her waist, and pressed her into his embrace. His grip was strong, and his expression turned fierce.

"If you’re not falling for that, then what will you fall for?"

Wren Sutton bristled with anger.

"Will you just drop it? The matter is over. Why bring it up again?"

"It’s over when I say it’s over," Adrian Lancaster said, domineering and tyrannical.

"..." Wren Sutton was utterly speechless. ’Psycho.’ The word almost slipped out.

They were at a standoff, neither willing to back down.

The atmosphere was incredibly tense.

Just then, Adrian Lancaster’s phone rang. It was Maya Marshall. He didn’t seem the least bit guilty, nor did he try to hide the call.

Wren Sutton took the opportunity while he answered the phone to give him a disgusted shove, scrambling off his lap and moving as far away from him as she could.

The car was quiet, and even without speakerphone, Wren Sutton could hear Maya Marshall’s voice. It was impossible to ignore.

"Is it still not over on Lucia’s end?"

"You go to sleep first. Don’t wait up for me."

"You promised you’d be with me tonight. Besides, there’s something I want to discuss with you."

"What is it?"

"It’s not convenient to talk about it over the phone."

Adrian Lancaster hesitated for just a second. "I’ll be over later."

"I’ll wait for you." Maya Marshall hung up, completely satisfied.

Adrian Lancaster put his phone away, his expression cold. He showed no intention of explaining anything to Wren Sutton.

Wren didn’t ask, either. It was as if Adrian Lancaster wasn’t her husband, and she couldn’t care less where he went or who he slept with.

They drove on in silence.

As they neared the marital villa, Adrian Lancaster raised the partition and ordered the driver, "Turn around. Go to Grandview Gardens."

"Yes, President Lancaster." The driver immediately turned the car around.

Wren Sutton’s eyes lit up, and her expression finally changed.

She hadn’t expected Adrian Lancaster to suddenly change his mind.

But it was exactly what she wanted.

Half an hour later, the Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of the Sutton Family’s apartment building.

Wren Sutton unbuckled her seatbelt. The words "thank you" were stuck in her throat, too awkward to say.

"Get out." Adrian Lancaster spoke first, his tone icy.

That was exactly what Wren Sutton wanted. She said nothing, pulled the car door open, and walked into the building without a backward glance.

Watching her resolute back as she left, Adrian Lancaster’s jaw tightened, and his eyes were filled with a frosty chill.

’She’s not even jealous. She doesn’t care where I go. She’s not showing any of the reactions a wife should have.’

His boss didn’t say anything, so the driver didn’t know where to go. He asked cautiously, "President Lancaster, where to next?"

Adrian Lancaster retracted his gaze and said coldly, "Go back the way we came."

He didn’t go to the Marshalls’.

DING. The elevator arrived at her floor.

Wren Sutton dragged her exhausted body home.

Just as she came in and sat down, a message came from Lucia Lancaster. She opened it to find it was full of photos.

Aside from a few photos of the three of them, there were also pictures of just her and Adrian Lancaster. There were no group photos.

Looking at the photos, Wren Sutton was filled with mixed emotions.

She understood Lucia Lancaster’s good intentions, so for Lucia’s sake, she saved one of the photos of the three of them.

As for the photos of the two of them, Wren Sutton felt there was no need to save them as mementos. ’Adrian Lancaster doesn’t deserve it.’ She decisively deleted them, leaving no trace behind.

...

「The next day.」

In the morning, Isla Griffith went to the Suttons’ home.

Mrs. Sutton treated her like a daughter, welcoming her warmly.

"Auntie, please don’t go to any trouble. It’s not like I’m a stranger."

"It’s been so long since you’ve come over. Stay for lunch. I’ll go out and buy some groceries."

Isla Griffith didn’t want to spoil her mood. "Okay, thank you, Auntie."

Mrs. Sutton went out, leaving just Wren Sutton and Isla Griffith at home.

The two best friends lounged on the sofa, eating snacks and chatting while *Empresses in the Palace* played on the TV.

"I came here today specifically to tell you some good news. Your blue diamond necklace has been sold. Someone offered this much."

Isla Griffith held up one finger.

Wren Sutton guessed it, shocked and overjoyed. "A hundred million?"

She knew there had been a previous offer of ninety million.

Isla Griffith nodded. "That’s right. A full ten million higher than the last person."

Wren Sutton was, of course, delighted. "Who’s the buyer?"

"I don’t know." Isla Griffith shook her head. "The moneybags isn’t showing up in person. They sent an assistant to negotiate with me. The transaction is scheduled for this afternoon. You should come along."

Wren Sutton agreed. "Where are we meeting?"

Isla Griffith’s expression was a bit helpless. "As luck would have it, in the teahouse across from The Rhodes Group’s headquarters."
