Secretly Married for 4 Years, He Regrets to Tears After the Divorce-Chapter 185: Watching Him Walk into the Postpartum Care Center
Dawn was breaking.
Stella Sinclair hadn’t slept well. She’d been plagued by insomnia and nightmares, and the dark circles under her eyes were prominent when she woke.
She was staring blankly at the ceiling when she suddenly heard footsteps and the sound of rolling wheels from outside her room.
Something felt wrong. Stella immediately rolled out of bed and, rubbing her drowsy eyes, walked out of the bedroom.
In the living room, Spencer Sawyer was pulling a suitcase by its handle toward the entryway, its wheels making a dull rumble on the floor.
Watching him leave without a word, Stella’s heart sank, and a sense of foreboding washed over her.
"Where are you going?"
Spencer Sawyer’s footsteps paused, but he didn’t turn around, only tilting his head slightly to the side.
"To the airport. I have an 8:30 flight for a business trip."
His voice was steady, betraying no emotion, as if he were discussing something completely ordinary.
"Where are you going on business?" Stella asked again.
Spencer Sawyer’s expression didn’t change. "Marinus."
Stella quickly took a few steps to get in front of him. She saw that he was impeccably dressed in a suit, his hair perfectly combed, looking utterly prepared.
That preparedness felt like an invisible wall, shutting her out completely.
When a husband goes on a business trip, his wife should be the one to pack for him, and she would have been more than willing.
But Spencer Sawyer wouldn’t even give her that chance. He would rather pack himself than ask her for help.
His cold, distant attitude made Stella’s heart ache all over again.
"Why didn’t you wake me?"
Spencer Sawyer didn’t answer. His gaze swept past her and landed on his watch, his tone carrying a programmed urgency. "It’s getting late. I have to go."
"I’ll go to Marinus with you," Stella blurted out, her plea a desperate, last-ditch effort.
She couldn’t bear to let Spencer go, but she also didn’t want to interfere with his work and leave him with the impression that she was being unreasonable.
"I promise I won’t disturb you. I’ll just stay in the hotel room. I won’t go anywhere."
Spencer Sawyer frowned. "No, you can’t come with me."
Stella blocked his path, stubbornly insisting on going with him.
"I told you I won’t disturb your work. I just want to be with you, to take care of you when you’re not working."
"I’m alone at home anyway. It’s better to go with you, so we can keep each other company."
"No." Spencer Sawyer’s refusal was sharp and decisive. He pushed away Stella’s hand as she tried to grab his sleeve. "There’s no time."
"Just give me ten minutes. I’ll wash my face, change my clothes, and we can go. I promise we won’t miss the flight," Stella continued to plead, her tone laced with a humility she had never shown before.
Spencer Sawyer was unmoved. His face darkened, and his voice turned cold as ice.
"Stella, stop making a scene. Otherwise, I’ll never come back to this house."
"..."
Stella froze, as if her weakest point had been struck, and fell into a hurt silence.
The light from above the entryway cast deep shadows on Spencer Sawyer’s face. He opened the door, pulled his suitcase, and left without a backward glance.
The door shut with a dull THUD.
The world suddenly fell silent.
Stella stood frozen in place, her face pale.
Anger, a sense of injustice, and the panicked fear of abandonment surged through her.
’Could it really be such a coincidence? A business trip the day after our wedding.’
’Is this a real business trip, or is he just trying to avoid me!’
Stella Sinclair, who had been bottling up her feelings since last night, finally snapped. Trembling with rage, she desperately needed an outlet.
She rushed into the living room, grabbed a ceramic vase from a cabinet, and smashed it violently against the wall.
The sound of the shattering porcelain was only the beginning.
Over the next few minutes, her long-suppressed emotions burst forth like a flood breaking a dam. Several decorative vases on the display shelf were not spared, turning into a mess of shards on the floor at her hands. 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
"Spencer Sawyer, how could you be so cruel to me? You’re so heartless!"
"What’s so wrong with me? What did I do to deserve you being so cold?"
After her hysterical outburst, Stella collapsed onto the floor, physically and mentally exhausted.
Morning light streamed through the window, but she saw no hope in it—only a marriage shattered into pieces.
...
When women are in a bad mood, they tend to go on shopping sprees, and Stella Sinclair was no exception.
She drove to the city’s most luxurious mall and went on a wild spending spree without looking at the price tags, filling the entire trunk with shopping bags.
When she still wasn’t satisfied, she spent millions more on jewelry and accessories, and finally, on a whim, bought a car.
For all these purchases, Stella used the black card Spencer Sawyer had given her.
She didn’t feel a shred of remorse; in fact, she wished she could max out the card.
"Spencer Sawyer, you’re the one who pushed me to this."
After completing the paperwork, Stella filled up the new car with gas and drove aimlessly through the streets.
Her right hand gripped the steering wheel while her left held a slim cigarette, numbing herself with nicotine.
She drove a loop around half the city and smoked several cigarettes. After the numbness set in, her mood eased slightly; the pain wasn’t as sharp as it had been that morning.
The traffic surged. A red light came on, and Stella hit the brakes, slowly coming to a stop.
Sitting in her car, a casual glance aside made her heart stop.
A familiar black SUV was parked on the side of the road. The license plate was distinctive—it was Spencer Sawyer’s car. She was sure she wasn’t mistaken.
"Impossible..." Stella murmured to herself, her fingers gripping the steering wheel so tightly her knuckles turned white.
She felt a wave of dizziness, as if the whole world was spinning.
’How could it be Spencer Sawyer!’
’Didn’t he have an 8:30 flight to Marinus this morning for a business trip? Why is he here?’
’Could it be... he never even left Aston? Was the business trip just an excuse!’
Soon, the light turned green, and the black SUV drove straight ahead.
Without hesitation, Stella flipped on her turn signal, changed lanes, and followed.
Her heart pounded like a drum, and cold sweat beaded on her palms. A voice inside her was screaming.
’This could be a misunderstanding. The driver might not be Spencer, but his chauffeur or a friend.’
Stella followed Spencer Sawyer’s car through several streets until it finally stopped in front of a high-end postpartum care center.
Stella parked her car at a hidden corner across the street and rolled down her window.
She watched with her own eyes as the person who got out of the car was none other than her husband, Spencer Sawyer.
!!!
A chill shot up her spine, and Stella’s hands began to tremble uncontrollably.
Spencer Sawyer had lied to her after all.
’A postpartum care center!’
The worst possible scenario flashed through Stella’s mind, but she desperately tried to suppress the thought.
Her eyes were locked on that familiar figure.
Spencer Sawyer got out of the car and walked straight into the postpartum care center, carrying an exquisite gift box in his hand. He looked completely at home, not at all like it was his first visit.
Stella’s nails dug deep into her palms, but she couldn’t feel the pain.
’Spencer Sawyer, just how much have you been hiding from me!’
Her blood rushing to her head, Stella threw open her car door, crossed the street, and stood at the entrance of the postpartum care center.
Through the glass doors, she could see the luxurious lobby inside. The air seemed to be filled with a peculiar mix of disinfectant and the scent of milk—the unique smell of newborns and their mothers.
’What is Spencer Sawyer doing in there? Who is he visiting? Could it be...’
Stella didn’t dare to think further. A wave of nausea washed over her, and her stomach churned.
At that moment, Stella felt as if all the blood in her body had frozen. She didn’t have the courage to push open the door in front of her.
A terrible possibility, one she had never even considered, pierced her heart like an icicle.
’Not only does Spencer Sawyer have someone else he loves... they also have a child...’
