Chapter 67 -67: Have You Finished Crying?
After staring at Matilda Ferguson for a while and not stopping at all, George Morris was furious. He stretched out one hand to grip her wrist, staring coldly at her tear-streaked and pitiful face, and demanded, “Have you cried enough?”
Once upon a time, this face had made him yearn for her countless times, but seeing it now, twisted in misery because of Bryan Hawkins, he felt humiliated.
It’s not like he and Matilda never had happy times together. Back when he helped her reach the top of her dreams, she had nestled in his embrace like a timid bird and thanked him softly.
But that was all she ever said – “thank you”. He longed to hear more from her but never heard what he wanted from her lips. He knew she was holding something back, or else she wouldn’t have kept rejecting his proposals.
Her reason for refusing him was rather compelling – she was just starting out in the Entertainment Circle, a place that didn’t easily accept celebrities who were not single.
Matilda wanted better opportunities, so he had always considered her as someone with a strong career ambition. However, today, he realized he could no longer deceive himself.
“What are you doing? You want to hit me again?” Matilda glared at George Morris. “I told you, George, if you dare to touch me again, even once, I’ll leave you, no matter the cost.”
“You—” Seeing the determination in Matilda’s eyes, George’s urge to slap her awake vanished. “Let me tell you, don’t even think about getting Bryan Hawkins. Even if you weren’t my woman, do you think someone like him would accept someone who abandoned him before?”
Not every man would take back a woman who left him, especially a man like Bryan Hawkins.
Matilda: “…”
She knew winning back Bryan’s heart wouldn’t be easy, but she believed that as long as she was sincere, he would see that. She trusted that he had once loved her, and he wasn’t someone who would fall in love again so quickly.
Her only fear was that Bryan wouldn’t even want to see her sincerity now. His attitude just now was enough to make her want to die.
“First, let’s go back and deal with tonight’s party. After that, we’ll discuss this issue further. Don’t forget, Matilda, I don’t like my woman to cuckold me. If you’re not afraid, you can try it.” George dropped the words harshly before turning and leaving.
Watching George’s retreating figure, hatred welled up in Matilda’s eyes, and the corners of her mouth curled up in mockery. This man was too full of himself. Did he really think she was still the Matilda from a year ago?
He underestimated her, Matilda Ferguson. She never planned to depend on George Morris for the rest of her life. If Bryan Hawkins were on equal footing with him, she would only have eyes for Bryan.
In the end, Matilda followed George back to the private room. She knew that now was not the time to break with him completely, but she would wait. One day, she would cut ties with George Morris for good.
However, Matilda didn’t expect her chance would come so soon.
She had been pondering when she could approach Bryan Hawkins again, but as soon as she returned home, she received a call from her agent, Jonathan Powell, asking her to prepare for Apricoom Building’s advertising spokesperson’s audition.
She immediately searched online and was pleasantly surprised to find that the owner of Apricoom Building was none other than Bryan Hawkins himself. Her chance had finally come.
Matilda’s spirits were lifted, and she decided to prepare well in order to get Bryan to accept her again.
——
Mid-Autumn Festival arrived quickly, and Carolline Ruiz got up early. The driver sent by Bryan’s grandmother was already waiting downstairs. Carolline didn’t hide her visit to the Hawkins Family from her parents, who didn’t object.
Once she arrived at the Hawkins Family home, she was warmly welcomed by Bryan’s grandmother and the rest. Though her appetite had grown, she couldn’t eat too much, so Bryan’s grandmother stuffed her bag with imported snacks from overseas.
In truth, Bryan had already left her a lot of snacks in the villa where Carolline could indulge herself.
Carolline unwrapped a chocolate with a smooth center, which tasted much better than the Dove bars she usually ate. She ended up eating several of them.
Seeing this, Bryan’s grandmother quickly had the servants pack a large portion for her to take home later, reasoning that her granddaughter, Camelia Hawkins, had already eaten enough of them, and eating less wouldn’t hurt.
William Hawkins didn’t eat sweets and had locked himself in his room that day, attending to some unknown business.
Bryan’s grandmother saved a small portion for Sophia Lawson to pass the time, but she gave the rest to Carolline, who didn’t know Bryan had left so many snacks for her at the villa. After a few attempts to decline the offer, she had no choice but to accept them.
As lunchtime approached, Bryan arrived, and his grandmother was quite pleased. As Carolline sat across from him at the table, she lowered her head.
“Bryan is back? Come on, sit down.” Bryan’s grandmother signaled Camelia with her eyes, and Camelia dutifully stood up, surrendering her seat to her big brother.
After washing his hands, Bryan sat down next to Carolline without hesitation. “Help yourself to anything you like; don’t be shy.”
“Okay,” Carolline replied shyly.

Because of Carolline’s presence, Bryan’s grandparents enjoyed their meal, as did Austin Hawkins and Sophia Lawson. The only exception was Camelia, who bluntly asked, “Big Brother, are you going to hold auditions for a celebrity spokesperson for your Apricoom Building? I heard from my friend that Matilda Ferguson is planning to sign up.”
“Camelia, can’t all this delicious food stuff your mouth?” Bryan’s grandmother scolded sharply, irritated that Camelia had chosen this moment to bring up that topic in front of Carolline.
Carolline didn’t really care about Bryan’s work, but hearing Matilda’s name made her as nervous as if she were confronting a great enemy, especially considering Matilda’s previous arrogance in declaring that she would reunite with Bryan. At the thought of that, Carolline couldn’t help but raise her head and sneak a peek at Bryan’s expression.
Bryan didn’t seem fazed. “That’s a matter for the Public Relations Department and the Promotion Department. I don’t get involved in the details.”
“Oh, can my classmate sign up?” The real question was this.
“If they’re over eighteen, yes. But if they’re under eighteen, it’s better not to.” Bryan stated his requirements calmly, causing Camelia’s mouth to droop in disappointment.
“Enough, let’s eat and stop talking nonsense. Your current task is to study well.” His grandmother finally issued the order.
Carolline lowered her head to eat, and under the table, unseen by others, Bryan’s hand suddenly rested on her thigh.
