Secret Marriage, High-Profile Pampering!-Chapter 912: Mr. Bennet’s Deliberate Disruption
Mr. Bennet had a leg injury, making it inconvenient for him to go on stage. The original plan was for Alexander Winslow to help him present the award.
Who knew, once Alexander arrived, he got caught up chatting with a female celebrity and sat far from Mr. Bennet, not even glancing in his direction.
After the host called Mr. Bennet’s name several times, he slowly wheeled himself onto the stage.
The people present didn’t show the same surprise as when they first saw him; his leg injury was already known to many.
A man like Mr. Bennet, with a formidable mind and innate business talent, wasn’t diminished in others’ eyes by his leg injury.
He was never one to conquer the masses with his looks; he always relied on his intellect.
When Mr. Bennet appeared on stage, there were many gasps in the audience, mostly from female guests in awe of him.
Lorraine Hughes followed him with her gaze when he appeared, quietly staring at him.
Her gaze lingered on him for quite a while, with an unreadable expression.
Lily Winslow was still in the audience; the nineteen-year-old girl who had always been close to Mr. Bennet naturally assumed that Mr. Bennet would undoubtedly be hers.
To Lily, any woman whose eyes lingered too long on Mr. Bennet was a rival in love.
Lily had lived abroad before and, like many young girls, she liked to idolize stars, but they were all Euramerican celebrities.
She didn’t know what kind of celebrity Lorraine Hughes was.
Lily stared at Lorraine Hughes on stage, watching Mr. Bennet for quite some time, her face turning downcast.
After Mr. Bennet went on stage, he took the trophy from the host and handed it to Lorraine Hughes.
Sitting in the wheelchair, when Lorraine Hughes took the trophy, she courteously bent down slightly to receive it.
At such a close distance, she could gaze directly into Mr. Bennet’s eyes more clearly.
Looking at his masked face, Lorraine Hughes inexplicably felt as though they had met somewhere before.
With so many guests in the audience, she was entranced while gazing at Mr. Bennet.
"Miss Hughes..." The host’s voice broke in beside them.
The host was reminding her that everyone’s time on stage was limited.
Lorraine Hughes snapped back to reality, somewhat embarrassed, quickly taking the trophy and, after thanking Mr. Bennet, began her acceptance speech.
"Today, receiving this award makes me very happy. This trophy belongs to all the fans who support me. I’m deeply grateful for your love, and I hope to continue receiving your support in the days to come. I’ll keep working hard."
Her speech was always composed and natural; a few words from her would stir thunderous applause from the audience.
Mr. Bennet slowly wheeled himself back down the stage and had to pass by Summer Sutton’s side on his way back to his table.
Turning his head slightly, his gaze subtly drifted toward Summer Sutton.
Summer Sutton was chatting with Ryan Walyon about a movie the Walyon Clan Group was planning to invest in, their bodies slightly close together.
Mr. Bennet stood beside them, seemingly invisible to Summer Sutton, who was chatting and laughing with Ryan Walyon.
Mr. Bennet’s usually expressionless face seemed to cool a bit.
As he walked past, he discreetly tugged on the tablecloth near Summer Sutton’s table.
Several glasses of champagne were on the table, with Summer Sutton’s glass placed right on the edge.
As Mr. Bennet pulled the tablecloth, the champagne glass toppled, spilling all the drink onto Summer Sutton.
