Chapter 63: Major Fate

Reinhard’s eyes opened, and his whole body felt different in a way he couldn’t immediately identify. Something had changed.

He pushed himself up slowly and felt his muscles aching. But he ignored it as he saw a familiar blue screen materialize in front of his face before he’d even fully sat up.

[Congratulations, Host! You have captured a Main Fate!]

He blinked and stared at the words Main Fate and not Minor Fate that showed up the previous two times. The words glowed brighter than any notification he’d seen before while pulsing with energy that seemed to vibrate the air.

He glanced to his side, where Yor still slept while her breathing deep and peaceful, and her face relaxed in a way he’d never seen before. His hand reached out to gently caress her hair while questions raced through his mind. Did it actually work? Was she really sealed? Or would she wake up and still be unable to control her power?

The blue screen shifted while new text appeared.

[Host! I’m so proud of you!]

You thought I would fail? Reinhard thought as he raised one eyebrow.

[Of course not! I was just surprised you would accomplish it so quickly.]

How long were you expecting me to take?

[Maybe... A year?]

Reinhard rolled his eyes while shifting position carefully to avoid waking Yor.

A year.

The system had expected him to spend a year building up to this moment, and he’d done it in weeks. He found it absurd that the system would think that, considering his past. But then again, he was dealing with a woman who had the power of the Void. Far different than any previous woman he had the pleasure of dealing with.

Alright, since you’re congratulating me, that means the seal works, right? Yor’s power is actually under control now?

[She is completely sealed, Host!]

The mission display appeared, and he noted there was another one, but he ignored it for now. He pressed on Yor own, and it began showing the original description about capturing Yor to prevent the destruction of Astralisis Continent. But underneath where it had always said "Incomplete" now sat a green checkmark with the word "Complete" glowing beside it.

Reinhard hummed while studying the confirmation. So is my reward just averting death and saving the continent?

[Of course not, Host! You can make a wish!]

His eyes narrowed in suspicion because nothing was ever that simple. What are the limitations?

[It cannot be anything too extreme, like infinite money, making you an Ascendant, or instant new Sigils. You would need more Main Fates captured for rewards of that magnitude. But you can request things such as healing, magic restoration, information-]

Is this a one-time wish?

[No! It’s a once-per-week wish! Every week you can make one request!]

Reinhard’s mind raced while calculating possibilities. This granted him a lot of help and reduced the need to manipulate those around him if he needed things. Just the part about wishing for information was invaluable to him.

As it would have made making a deal with Victoria very easy. It would also help him if he ever needed it for plans. Or he could incorporate it with plans.

Reinhard shakes his head and thinks. Is it possible to get a ritual formula that can help give a person a random Sigil?

[Ah, this is for Victoria? I can create it now—]

Not yet. Do it when I meet, when it’s time to cash in the deal with her.

[Understood, Host!]

Reinhard then looked back at Yor and saw her shift slightly in her sleep. He gently caressed her cheek as he smiled at her, both proud and happy. When she wakes up and finds that she can control her powers, it will show her that it was right to trust him. And that she can finally live her life the way she wants to instead of being chained.

I should have her Sigil available now, right?

[Of course! Are you ready to fuse with it?]

Let me see it first.

The screen shifted and began displaying new information in glowing letters.

[Void]

[Source: Main Fate - Yor Ability: Allows the user to tap into the Void and devour magical attacks, then use absorbed energy to heal themselves or others. Cooldown: Ten seconds between uses. Note: Will grow stronger with Host’s development]

Reinhard blinked while his brows furrowed. I thought Yor’s ability was devouring emotions? And since when can it heal? Is this the upgraded version?

[Actually, the true Void ability is devouring magic itself! But without proper control and sealing, Yor had no mastery over it. What she could do was limited and random. The emotion drain was just one manifestation of uncontrolled void power.]

His eyes widened before he slowly nodded. So, the healing aspect-

[Is the upgraded version! You can take devoured magic and pour it into yourself or channel it into another person to restore their energy and heal wounds!]

What’s the limit of absorption?

[You can devour magical attacks up to Adept rank safely. If you push yourself, you can absorb one attack from an Ascendant. But you will be knocked unconscious after ten seconds.]

So, I have ten seconds to either launch a counterattack or heal everyone around me before I collapse.

[I had not considered that tactical application! Indeed, Host!]

Alright. Do the fusion now. Reinhard thought with a smirk.

The world tilted while reality folded in on itself, and the familiar bedroom disappeared completely. He found himself standing once again in the vast awakening chamber. He saw the same walls stretching impossibly high and the ceiling vanishing into darkness above.

The Obelisk Crystal pulsed before him while stones inscribed with symbols began glowing around him in a perfect circle. The stones lifted while rotating slowly at first and then faster until they blurred into motion.

The Obelisk’s color shifted from blue to black-grey while lightning crackled across its surface. Space itself warped while a black hole formed beneath Reinhard’s feet and pulled at everything around it.

The rotating stones transformed into smaller black holes while each one distorted the area and created gravitational wells. They blurred together while forming a massive black wheel that spun faster and faster until the chamber stretched and compressed simultaneously.

The crystal blazed bright while sending a beam of pure void energy directly into Reinhard’s chest.

Pain and power flooded through him while magic tore through his veins. The void energy was overwhelming and alien, but it settled into places that felt like they’d been waiting for exactly this power.

Connections formed while linking the new Sigil to his existing abilities. And creating synergies he could already sense would be devastating in combat.

The vision shattered while reality snapped back, and another blue screen appeared immediately.

[Congratulations!]

[Strength: Very High → Extreme]

[Defense: Average → Very High]

[Stamina: Very High → Extreme]

[Agility: High → Very High]

Wait. I thought only magic stats increased? Reinhard thought as he stared at his four stats, which had increased.

[For Minor Fates, yes! But Main Fates boost all physical statistics as well!]

Reinhard’s lips twitched while he pulled up his full status display.

[Reinhard Malvin]

[Gender: Male]

[Rank: Initiate]

[Sigils: (Precognition), (Spatial Lord), (Void)]

[Stats:

Strength: Extreme

Defense: Very High

Stamina: Extreme

Agility: Very High

Magic Reserve: Extremely High

Magic Potency: Extremely High]

He smiled at seeing how close he was to his goal. He was still aiming for every stat at Extremely High before he then focused on pushing to the next rank. From what he learned, the way to push to the next rank requires one to break the limits of their body.

Or, more specifically, breaking one magic container, leading to an even bigger one forming. It was similar to placing a small glass of water into a bigger glass. Before breaking the smaller one and having the water spill into the bigger one.

And then one would need to fill the new glass cup to reach the next level.

Reinhard sighed; he was very close. It’s still surprising to him how he’d gone from average across the board to dominating almost every category in just weeks.

The difference between him just gaining a Sigil and now was staggering.

It was then he felt movement beside him. Reinhard dismissed the screen and turned his attention back to what actually mattered. Yor stirred while her eyes moved beneath closed lids and her breathing pattern changed from deep sleep to gradual waking.

Her hand twitched while fingers curled and uncurled against the sheets.

Reinhard watched as his heart rate increased slightly because this was the moment of truth. Would she wake up feeling different? Would she notice the seal? Would she panic or would she feel relief?

Her eyes opened slowly, and she looked unfocused at first and then quickly found his face.

"Reinhard?" She whispered, her voice rough from sleep.

He smiled while reaching out to brush hair from her face. "Good morning."

"Why..." She said as she gripped his hand tighter. "Why do I feel... different? Like there’s something inside me that wasn’t there before. Something sealed but also... waiting?"
