Chapter 144: Chapter 144 Unrest Within, Threats Without_1

"A bad premonition?"

Colin’s self-awareness was startled, and he too developed some unpleasant premonitions.

No, to be more precise, he had been harboring a bad premonition ever since he was forced to fall. He always felt like something was out to get him.

It wasn’t until he regained the "nose" usage rights and had a general grasp of the outside situation that his anxiety was slightly alleviated.

After some thought, Colin diverted a bit of his attention and sniffed the air.

"It seems like something is approaching, not the usual kind of head, but some other stuff that feels quite familiar."

"It’s just that this thing should be within a manageable range, not cause for alarm..."

"There’s also these survivors that the ’Script Book’ has arranged for us to meet this afternoon. I feel something off about all these people, but I can’t quite pin down what it is..."

Colin’s consciousness clung to his brain, using it to "help" think.

If it were only his main consciousness, without the use of his brain, his thoughts would be erratic and biased, like a trash bag blown into the sky by a typhoon, once the thoughts spiraled out of control, they were hard to rein in.

At that moment, as if catching on to Colin’s thoughts, the "Left Brain" popped up with a suggestion:

"My advice is kill, kill, kill! Once we regain control of our body, kill that guy with the glasses, kill those colleagues with ulterior motives, kill that driver, kill those whose vibes are off, kill those monsters! Kill, kill, kill, let blood run like rivers!"

"Why kill? They can’t be killed yet, we’re not psychopaths. Rather than killing those people, they still have plenty of use..."

The "Right Brain" immediately followed up with a relatively rational suggestion, though it was also quite limited: "We could drain their usefulness, then kill them."

’When the hell did I ask you for advice, and what kind of shitty advice is this...’

Colin’s self-awareness couldn’t help but retort, but didn’t say much else. During this period of "unconsciousness," he had witnessed the Left Brain more than once offering all sorts of impractical, wild suggestions.

Sometimes, he seriously wondered if this thing was really his brain...

Why it was always coming up with brainless suggestions.

"However, when I think about things normally, am I this aggressive, always ready to shout about fighting and killing?"

Colin’s self-awareness watched the two halves of the brain bicker and couldn’t help but sink into contemplation.

"Is this that ’Crimson’ power? Creating new consciousnesses throughout the body and then using this bizarre ability to swiftly collapse and overwhelm the opponent?"

Colin had an epiphany, feeling that this strange power was indeed too absurd and fantastical.

If that thing had looked at him for a few more seconds, his current situation would probably be entirely different.

He might even drop dead on the spot, turning into a pile of organs running amok on the ground...

Just the thought of that was preposterous and eerie.

However, at this moment, he suddenly felt his thoughts slowing down, a sense of dizziness, as if something else was happening within his body while he was distracted...

"A portion of the blood is refusing to continue transporting nutrients!"

"Damn Large Intestine, actually taking advantage of our discussion on important body matters to ambush Little Brother Small Intestine and snatch nutrients!"

"And some other organs within the body are also stirring, repression! It must be swift repression! Harsh repression! We can’t afford to show them the slightest bit of mercy again!"

Left Brain counted off several times, then began issuing instructions anew.

Colin could no longer care about other matters, and immediately withdrew his thoughts, shifting greater attention back to the inside of his body, wearing down against this group of rebellious new consciousnesses that were always thinking of revolt.

After a while, he gradually adjusted, and the "rebellion" that had just flared up within his body was quelled once more; the bizarre spectacle of demons dancing in chaos was also appeased, as all physiological feedback returned to normal.

"As long as I survive, you all shall ultimately be my subjects!" Left Brain declared in triumph.

"These guys, really, if you don’t beat them for three days, they’ll start stripping tiles off the roof. It’s clear they’ve already been assigned a lifelong job. Not being grateful is one thing, but they actually dare to desire more pay in the form of more nutrients, wanting both work and salary. They seem to want to reap all the benefits..." Right Brain also added.

What the hell kind of capitalist spiel is this, are you really my brain...

Colin’s self-awareness couldn’t help but let out a retort, then took a breather as the body calmed down once again.

At the moment, there were quite a few more things outside, and it seemed they were already embroiled in a difficult battle...

"The waste outside can’t even handle this stuff," Left Brain cursed, vexed as if blaming them for not turning out steel. "Internal troubles and external aggressions, this is a critical moment for survival or demise! These guys, always thinking about division; don’t they know they are grasshoppers on the same rope as us? Even if they truly did splinter off and leave the body, they couldn’t live, without other organs, how long could they last? Don’t they have any brains at all?"

Right Brain immediately responded, "Indeed they have no brains."

"Uh..." Left Brain choked, "Then never mind... No, can’t they grow some brains? A mature organ should have its own thoughts!"

...Why do I feel like your idea is more dangerous than their rebellion?

Colin felt that, while Left Brain was rambling, it indeed seemed to think so, as more images floated to mind.

In these images, each organ had grown a brain... 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"It’s not feasible; we can’t keep up with the nutritional demand, the brain is a special organ that is very taxing in terms of nutrients." Right Brain negated his "brother’s" idea on practical grounds.

Then it offered some suggestions, "Instead of them not being able to grow brains, I feel that, for now, it’s best we continue our great task of reclamation. At least, we should secure control of key areas like the sensory organs, some crucial muscles, and the limbs and torso before an external danger arrives!

"As for the internal organs, we can slow down a bit. No matter how loudly they assert themselves, in the end under instinct, they’ll still do what they’re supposed to..."

"Like that lung, constantly complaining that it doesn’t want to breathe anymore, but the alveoli are still honestly inflating and contracting..."

Although he was somewhat moved by the brain’s unswerving support for himself, Colin still found this situation of "self" talking to "self" quite amusing.

The ideas of the Left and Right Brain were also his own, it was just that these ideas were not ones he actively articulated, but ones that simply emerged on their own.

After gathering his thoughts, Colin didn’t continue to pay attention to the two, but took a breath and readying himself for the next internal "rebellion" which had yet to appear, he focused on perceiving the situation outside.

After simply analyzing a few things, an idea flashed through his mind, and he summoned the internal chat interface of the recently emerged "Bonfire Company," using this tool to intervene with the outside world.
