The bullets were spent, and the person was thoroughly dead. Wei Wei leaned against the jeep's door, his smile fading as his breathing grew heavier.

He hadn't been injured; even the wound in his abdomen had healed. Yet, he looked extremely weak, with a profound sense of emptiness inside. The gun in his hand felt incredibly heavy.

His heart pounded like a drum, and he could feel an unrelenting hunger raging within him like a beast.

"Now, even fighting a third-stage Knowledge Demon is such a struggle?" a somber voice spoke up—it was the pendant.

It was stuck between the seats, showing only one eye, which gazed at Wei Wei with a deep, mysterious look.

"I'm just a second-stage Crimson Deacon," Wei Wei replied, smiling. "It's normal to struggle against a third-stage devil."

"But this is just a Knowledge Demon," the pendant retorted. "What about Order, Fate, or War Demons?"

Wei Wei hesitated, then smiled. "Maybe it would be even harder?"

"You'll die," the pendant whispered. "The cost of your return was too high."

"It's not a cost," Wei Wei said, smiling. "It was never mine to begin with; they just took it back."

"But you've returned in this state to the most dangerous third city defense line," the pendant continued. "This is the frontline facing the wilderness, filled with crazed fanatics and fallen monsters."

"Haha... I used to think you fit well here because you could hold your promotion ceremony without restraint. But now I see that with your current weakness, you're only going to get yourself killed by acting so recklessly..."

Wei Wei picked up the pendant and hung it back on the rearview mirror, his expression serious.

"Although we're friends, I have to warn you not to use words that might be misunderstood..."

"I'm just a law-abiding citizen," the pendant said with a cold smile.

"Haha..."

The pendant was about to speak but suddenly noticed something and closed its mouth, pretending to be a dead head.

Wei Wei also sensed something and turned his head sharply. In the wilderness, a dark wind began to blow. Except for the jeep's headlights, the surroundings seemed to darken further.

There were faint rustling sounds, and ghostly shadows seemed to swim in the air like fish.

Wei Wei slowly turned his head towards a particular direction.

The grass parted, revealing a tall figure standing about ten meters away. The figure was clad in thick silver armor, sitting on a massive motorcycle that was almost twice the size of a normal one.

The motorcycle had mechanical parts covered with what seemed like flesh, and a red heart pulsed at the engine, beating powerfully.

The rider wore a flat, frog-mouthed helmet, and cold eyes gleamed from the visor. The figure stood like a dark, eerie mountain.

A strong smell of blood emanated from the armor's joints, causing the surrounding grass to wither and curl.

Wei Wei felt a sense of danger that struck at his soul.

He raised his head, took a drag on his cigarette, and exhaled slowly as the smoke dissipated into the wilderness.

The frog-mouthed knight's gaze swept over the scattered corpses, their presence growing colder.

Suddenly, the knight looked up at Wei Wei and spoke slowly:

"A citizen with a sense of justice?"

Wei Wei nodded.

The frog-mouthed knight gazed deeply at Wei Wei, let out a low chuckle, and turned to leave.

"I am too..."

As the knight disappeared into the grass, Wei Wei tossed away his cigarette butt and stared forward, bewildered.

"A woman?" he and the pendant exclaimed in unison, incredulous.

The knight's oppressive aura still lingered, making the air feel thick.

Was there such a monster even in a small place like Iron City? Wei Wei narrowed his eyes.

No, it was precisely because Scrap Iron City was on the edge, between the wilderness and the spiritual barrier. Inside was the strict spiritual barrier, while outside roamed fanatics and knight orders. The complex forces created a chaotic environment, making it easier for twisted monsters to hide.

This was... too interesting.

"It seems that guy isn't our opponent. Let's focus on the main task now."

After resting for a while, Wei Wei sighed and began cleaning up the battlefield. The advantage was that they weren't in Scrap Iron City, so they didn't need to meticulously clean the floor.

However, the scattered bloodstains, broken bodies, and other obvious signs needed to be cleared to protect the environment.

The pendant looked disgusted but had an excited glint in its eye. It rolled onto the pile of corpses and began eating them, complaining:

"Actually, next time you could leave them half-alive. That way, I can feed on them while their demon powers haven't dissipated yet... You can charge me less..."

Wei Wei, squatting to clean up, looked back at the pendant and smiled.

"I used to think you understood everything... But now I see you're missing something."

"What?" the pendant asked.

"A bit of shame," Wei Wei replied.

The pendant choked, wanting to retort but not willing to stop eating. It continued to devour the corpses, its body swelling slightly.

Wei Wei watched, amused, as the pendant greedily consumed the bodies and licked the blood from its lips.

Some people enjoyed playing games like Tetris or Snake; it seemed to be a similar psychology.

The pendant, however, felt a chill from Wei Wei's satisfied and excited expression.

Just as the pendant was about to consume the last nun's body, Wei Wei stopped it.

"What now?" the pendant asked, surprised.

"I still have use for her," Wei Wei said with a smile. "Leave her as a message for the other side."

The pendant's eyes lit up, and it chuckled.

"You're a madman..."

It noted Wei Wei's unkind gaze and added with a smile, "But I really like it..."

After cleaning the battlefield and removing any sensitive information, Wei Wei carefully placed the most combat-capable nun's body on the truck.

He wanted the other side to see her desperate face and the numerous bullet holes, which looked particularly gruesome.

Satisfied, he patted his hands and returned to the jeep, whistling as he drove back to the city.

"Ding" "Ding" "Ding"

As soon as he entered the city limits, his phone received several messages. They were records of attempts to contact him, along with a message from Captain Ouyang:

"Call back!"

"Trouble..." Wei Wei's expression turned serious as he pondered.

The pendant, which had fallen asleep after eating its fill, suddenly opened its eyes, curious.

"This guy is getting less and less like a forbidden demon artifact," Wei Wei thought.

Holding the phone, Wei Wei furrowed his brow.

"How do I explain this to the leader when I get back?" he asked.

The pendant looked puzzled. "You've killed everyone, and you're worried about this?"

"I wasn't thinking that much earlier," Wei Wei said, taking a deep breath. "I've been out for a while, and the captain must have noticed. I won't be able to hide it..."

He glared at the pendant. "You know a lot; think of something."

The pendant stared at Wei Wei, then took a deep breath—air leaking from its neck—and said,

"Wow, you're amazing... Over the years, people have asked me how to gain superhuman powers, suppress demon attributes, perform sacrifices, or poison an entire city without being noticed. But you're the first to ask me how to deceive a leader..."

Just then, the phone rang, sounding urgent. It was Captain Ouyang.

Wei Wei glanced at the pendant and sighed, answering the call.

"Captain, hello..."

"Where are you? Is everything okay?" Captain Ouyang asked in a flurry of questions. "Why didn't you answer your phone?"

The pendant's face twisted into a smug grin.

Wei Wei sighed. "Captain, I was chasing some suspects outside the city..."

"What?" Captain Ouyang's voice rose sharply, almost trembling. "And then?"

"I didn't catch them," Wei Wei replied with a smile. "Their firepower was too strong."
