Chapter 679: Husband and husband

As he ascended the platform, the intricate folds of his wedding attire trailed behind him. The veil, delicate and mysterious, framed his features, anticipation shining in his eyes. His expression was calm but his heart was not calm at all. It was racing so fast that he almost thought it would beat out of his chest as he slowly walked on the platform.

When he raised his head he met his sweetheart’s gaze. Luo Muchen was equally resplendent in his red wedding attire as he approached him. His demeanour was enchanting and his every movement deliberate. Qie Xieling’s smile grew bigger resisting the urge to run into his arms.

Luo Muchen was holding one end of the red ribbon ball and when they met at the centre the elder in waiting stepped forward, placing the other end in Qie Xieling’s hand. The soft strains of music enveloped them, a gentle backdrop to this sacred moment.

And then, with a smile as radiant as the sun, Luo Muchen led the way, their steps in harmony.

When they reached the family altar the master of ceremonies spoke but in truth, they weren’t paying full attention.

They kept stealing gazes at each other from the corner of their eyes. The veil that separated them felt like a thin barrier, and Qie Xieling’s fingers itched to reach out and touch his beloved.

It was only when the command, "Bow to the heavens and earth," came that they came back to themselves.

In perfect synchrony, they bent forward, foreheads touching the ground. The weight of what they were about to do made Qie Xieling’s heart race. All he focused on was Luo Muchen’s presence beside him.

Next, they rose to bow to their parents, who sat near the family altar. Qie Xieling’s breath caught as he lowered himself, gratitude and love flowing through the gesture. He was very grateful for their love and ever-lasting care over the years. His dad was visibly happy but his father had a serious expression but Qie Xieling could see from his eyes that he was happy. He smiled slightly as he got up on his feet.

Finally, he could face his lover. They turned to each other and through the delicate fabric, Qie Xieling met Luo Muchen’s gaze. The world blurred around them leaving only the two of them.

As they bent forward their foreheads touching the ground, their breaths mingled, and Qie Xieling’s chest felt like it might burst. This was it. The last bow and they would officially be husband and husband. His Adam’s apple bobbed his excitement written all over his face. When they rose, their gazes remained entwined like they were the only ones in the world.

Soon enough they went through the tea ceremony. Qie Xieling knelt before Luo Shih his hands steady as he served her tea. Luo Shih was so happy. She spoke a few words of blessings with a smile so bright you would think she had won a Nobel Peace prize. She couldn’t wait to show off her son-in-law. That distant uncle of hers pitied her when he heard that her son was marrying a man but she didn’t care. She couldn’t wait to flaunt her in-law in his face. Her in-law was a million times better than his son-in-law who poked his thing in any hole he could find.

She handed him a red envelope. It was her gift to her son-in-law. Qie Xieling smiled and said, "Thank you."

Luo Shih wouldn’t let him go just like that. With a teasing smile, she said, "Thank you who? Go on... call mum."

Qie Xieling lowered his head shyly before calling, "Thank you, mum."

Luo Shih laughed gleefully. She patted the back of his hand and said, "Good. I am your mum from now on. If he bullies you, you should tell me."

Qie Xieling’s smile grew bigger while glancing at his new husband. Luo Muchen at him as well wondering what his mother said to him.

As soon as Qie Xieling was done it was Luo Muchen’s turn. He followed suit, kneeling before Qie Xieling’s parents, offering them tea with reverence. Unlike Qie Xieling, Luo Muchen was given a warning by his father in law that was before he was given a fat red envelope.

"... I am handing him over to you. I trust you will treat him well otherwise you will deal with me personally, ouch," said Qie Ranzhe before he was pinched hard by Wen Qinxi.

Wen Qinxi smiled and said, "You can call me Dad. From now on you are my son too."

Luo Muchen nodded his head before saying, "Thank you Dad... and I promise to love him with every fibre of my being. Father you don’t have to worry," he said and Qie Ranzhe was satisfied.

"You better keep your word," he said and Luo Muchen nodded his head.

After the ceremony, Qie Xieling was led to the bridal chamber. "I thought we would do this at night," he said to the older lady who had been guiding him before.

"Young sir, you have to participate at the reception so we can only do this now," she said and Qie Xieling nodded his head in understanding. They probably didn’t want him to run around with a veil all day. It would be very uncomfortable. They stepped into Luo Muchen’s room which had been decorated in red just like his room back home. There was a dazzling red quilt on the bed with a pair of Mandarin ducks embroidered on it, lit Dragon and Phoenix candles casting warm hues, and red lace bed curtains framing the space.

Qie Xieling settled onto the bed, his heart fluttering with anticipation. The room fell silent, the older lady patiently waiting for Luo Muchen. Unable to contain his excitement, Qie Xieling pulled up his veil to take a better look at Luo Muchen’s bedroom only to be reprimanded gently.

He was quite restless. Lucky for him, Luo Muchen soon walked in, his steps brisk like he was afraid he would miss out on something. Without wasting time a golden rod was placed in his hand, and with deliberate care, he lifted his lover’s veil.

There, before him, sat his now husband, elegant and radiant. Their eyes locked, and when Luo Muchen saw Qie Xieling’s handsome face, he smiled brightly.
