Chapter 675: Morning of the wedding

He finally managed to sneak in bags of takeout without being noticed. He knocked softly with their secret knock before the door was swung open and he was dragged in.

Bo Ailun, "..."

"You forgot to do the secret knock well," complained Qie Xieling. Just now he thought it was someone else because the series of knocks weren’t done right.

"What? Its knock knock... knock knock knock then knock," explained Bo Ailun and Qie Xieling was exasperated.

"Never mind. What did you bring?" he asked and Bo Ailun excitedly took out his loot.

"I bought nuggets, pizza and cheesecake. There were only a few places left that were open," he said and Qie Xieling smiled happily.

"Thank you for your hard work Bo-ge," he said while pinching his cheek. The two of them sat down on the carpet just like they used to do when they were kids and devoured the entire meal while chatting it up.

Qie Xieling truly enjoyed himself. This was the perfect ending to his singledom. Well, he of course had to pay for his sins the next morning.

His nana wasn’t joking when she said they would wake him up early. He was woken up at five am. Lucky for him Bo Ailun had left his room last night with all the evidence otherwise he would have been caught.

"Five more minutes," he said while pulling the quilt to cover his head from the piercing light but his nana was ruthless. He was dragged out of bed and pushed into the shower. "You have twenty minutes maximum," she said but ten minutes later when his father came to drop off his clothes there was no sound of running water at all.

Qie Ranzhe knocked on the door before opening it. He found his son who should have been taking a shower sleeping on the floor with his back against the door.

"Lin Lin!" he yelled and Qie Xieling jumped to his feet while yelling,

"I am awake. I am awake. I was looking for my earring... it fell."

Qie Ranzhe, "..."

"I wasn’t born yesterday. Now hurry up. You can sleep in the car," he said before closing the door.

Qie Xieling almost wailed crying for his beauty sleep. He reluctantly got into the shower and scrubbed clean till his skin was tinged with a slight pink hue. While rinsing he made sure not to get water in his hair that had pin curls in it courtesy of his grandma.

When he came out his bed was already made and the room cleaned. He had stepped out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, his skin still glistening with droplets of water. His steps halted at the sight of his bedroom which had been transformed into a sanctuary of matrimonial bliss. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

His bedding was changed to red satin bedding with mandarin ducks and peonies embroidered on it. Red lanterns now hung from the ceiling, their delicate paper skins illuminating the room with a festive warmth. His wedding attire, a masterpiece of embroidery and silk, was hung on a coat rack but his shoes were missing.

On the dresser, his watch, earrings, and hair crown were displayed like royal treasures on a tray lined with a red velvet cloth. But he was more concerned about his missing shoes. While looking around for them his father walked in.

"Lin Lin, don’t forget to moisturise. After you are done come downstairs to eat breakfast," his father called out as he brought in a red antique jewellery box.

"Okay," he said as he made his way to the walk-in closet with the scent of sandalwood and jasmine lingering in the air.

When he reached downstairs he found that everyone was running around busy carrying boxes of things into the decorated black SUV outside.

His nana beckoned him over to eat breakfast. "Good morning grandma. Good morning Nana," he said before patting his uncle’s shoulder. His uncle looked way worse than him. He was slumped on the dining table looking like he would pass out in the next second. Bo Ailun was nowhere to be seen. He was probably still sleeping.

"After breakfast. You should get changed. They will come and pick you up at the auspicious hour," said Nana Qie and Qie Xieling who wasn’t as energetic as before suddenly sat up straight. The thought that he would be seeing Luo Muchen today and becoming his official husband he was instantly revitalised.

After only a few bites he got up and his grandma who saw that he had only eaten a little tried to stop him.

"Uh uh, take a couple more bites. It’s going to be a long day," she said and Qie Xieling who had eaten much last night felt guilty. He was going to undoubtedly appear bloated if he ate more.

"Grandma, I am good. I’m so full," he said only for Airen to walk in and ask,

"Who ate pizza last night and didn’t share? I wanted some too." She had seen a box in the trash outside while unboxing the firecrackers.

The people at the table, "..."

Nana Qie had a sneaky suspicion but when she turned around Qie Xieling was long gone. Qie Xieling was already in his room hiding from a round of scolding.

An hour later he was standing in the centre of his room, a figure of calm amidst the flurry of activity. Bo Ailun’s mum had arrived early and because she was a celebrity makeup artist she had Qie Xieling sit down and add a little make-up on his face.

Qie Xieling didn’t even think it was necessary but soon he understood why. He was going to be on camera all day starting from the minute he put his wedding clothes on.

Auntie Bo didn’t overdo it. All it took was a tinted moisturiser, a little concealer and lip balm. Qie Xieling heaved a sigh as he looked at himself in the mirror.

The designer carefully helped him into the layers of intricate clothing. Each piece was a symbol of prosperity and joy and Qie Xieling smiled the entire time looking like the semblance of a radiant full moon.

As the designer adjusted the final details, the videographer and camerawoman moved around them, capturing every moment. The soft clicks and whirrs of their equipment filled the room making him feel like he was on a movie set.
