Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 669: Father and son bonding
After tormenting his father for an entire afternoon Qie Xieling was treated to an expensive meal. Qie Ranzhe just wanted to eat something nice after all that embarrassment.
He took his son to a high-end fine-dining restaurant atop one of the tallest buildings in the city. It was an exclusive sky-roof restaurant that only dignitaries and business tycoons had access to. On a normal day, Qie Xieling would have to ask his father for help to get a table for him there.
The restaurant buzzed with the soft murmur of conversations and clinking glasses. Qie Ranzhe sat across from his son while taking a sip from his wine glass. He was listening to his son’s ceaseless pleas to take a picture.
Qie Xieling clutching his phone, leaned across the table and continued begging. "Please please please, just one selfie. It’ll mean the world to me."
Qie Ranzhe felt like his son was like a broken record. Soon he was unable to resist. His gaze softened, and with a resigned chuckle, he nodded. "Fine, but just one." Qie Xieling’s face broke into a triumphant smile as he positioned the phone, capturing the skyline behind them. He was about to press the shutter button when he saw his father wasn’t smiling.
"Are you trying to scare my fans? Smile a little. The picture will look good that way." His father rarely smiled in pictures. Family photos, yes but as for the rest he always wore an expression like someone owed him millions.
Qie Ranzhe didn’t want to disappoint him so he smiled genuinely too. Soon Qie Xieling would learn why his father never smiled in pictures. Qie Xieling wasn’t satisfied with the first picture. He wanted to take more but he already knew that his father was already approaching the limit of his tolerance.
"Thank you," he said as he set back down with his phone in his hand. He typed in the caption ’Dining with my pops, yay!’ before posting it. Soon after, their main course was brought to the table and they delved into the seafood, spicy for Lin Lin and mild for Ran Ran. Well, Qie Ranzhe for half of the meal was mostly peeling shrimp for him with a practiced hand. His movements were meticulous and caring. That’s because he was used to this. Whenever he dined with his family he would gladly take on such a task.
While seriously working on peeling the shrimp his son asked, "Soooo, when did you fall in love with Dad."
Qie Ranzhe paused, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Hasn’t your dad told you about it already?" 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
"He did but Nana said that was half the story," said Qie Xieling trying to recall the story his dad told him. A smile crept up his face when he suddenly recalled how his dad had told him for years that he was created from a machine that was powered by love. The stronger the love the parents had the higher the chance they would get a baby.
Qie Ranzhe stopped and tried to recall the day that he first laid eyes on Wen Qinxi. He felt something at that moment but he didn’t know what it was then.
"... I bumped into him once and didn’t know what to say to him so I stupidly asked him to throw something away for me. I pulled out my hair after that calling myself stupid. Do you know I almost married someone else instead of your dad because I wasn’t brave enough?"
Qie Xieling was listening and enraptured by his parent’s love story. His imagination was even painting the scenes of a past he wasn’t there to witness.
"Dad told me. Do you regret not marrying her?" he suddenly asked and Qie Ranzhe almost threw a shell at him.
"Really?" he said and Qie Xieling laughed out loud.
"What? I am just asking."
"No, I don’t regret it. I love your dad so much that if someone so much as stares at him for too long, I might hit them," replied Qie Ranzhe. If Wen Qinxi knew that his husband was discussing his jealous tendencies with their son he might lock him out of their bedroom for a week.
"It is so freakin annoying, isn’t it? Like what are you looking at? Haven’t you seen a handsome person before," chimed in Qie Xieling. And thus the father and son were now bonding on being jealous. They were like two little demons fueling each other’s possessive tendencies.
"Do you know how many letters he got in high school? I stole some of them. Was it wrong? Yes, but it was necessary," said Qie Ranzhe and Qie Xieling wanted to judge his father but it turns out he also did that but with Luo Muchen’s knowledge. How many letters did he accept from girls only to read them out loud for Luo Muchen before throwing them away off campus? From another angle it looked like he was controlling Luo Muchen’s love letters and the girls knew that. If they wanted a love letter to reach Luo Muchen they had to go through Qie Xieling because Luo Muchen would directly reject them.
"Did you ever stalk Dad’s social media pages and quarrelled with someone in the comments?" asked Qie Xieling because he did that.
"No, I didn’t quarrel with them... I just reported their account and got them blocked. I admit it. I am not normal. Don’t be like your father be more like your dad," said Qie Ranzhe acknowledging that he had a problem.
Qie Xieling who now had some understanding of why he was upset that day took a sip of his wine before mumbling, "Too late for that advice."
"It’s not like I don’t trust your dad. But I can’t help it," he said and Qie Xieling unsurprisingly agreed with his father. He trusted Luo Muchen but he didn’t trust Bager at all. He was about to tell his father about it when his phone started vibrating.
He saw that it was his dad calling so he picked it up. Why was his dad calling? It was because the picture he posted was causing a stir. When his father wasn’t smiling in pictures he was like a stern figure that would make sleeping babies cry but when he was smiling, he was a vixen. It seemed now it was his dad’s turn to be jealous.
