Saving System: Calm Down, My Fleeing Host!-Chapter 91: Mission, Ambush IX
After tidying up her bedding and putting it in the storage, she cleaned up the simple items on the plank bed.
Looking at the mission countdown of 18:12:11, how did the time pass so quickly? It’s the last day, less than 24 hours left.
The system muttered, "Whether someone leaked information or someone betrayed you, the bandit leader knows the entire plan and is planning to use it to lure you into a trap."
Damn!
Cheng Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to say, no wonder the group ended up dead, their plan had already been seen through by the bandits.
Voices could be faintly heard from outside again.
"What’s happening outside again?"
"Oh! That butler of Boss Qian, named Qian Fusheng, is back. He’s managed to persuade fifty or sixty more people to join the team and is currently studying the map you gave." The system replied casually.
Cheng Xiaoxiao washed up briefly, got herself ready, moved the big wooden board used as a door aside, and heard a sound. Dongfang Xu, who was squatting at the entrance, immediately stood up.
Cheng Xiaoxiao leaned against the entrance with a mischievous grin and said, "Young Master Dongfang, did you guard my door all night for me?"
"If Miss insists on understanding it that way, then yes." Dongfang Xu replied calmly. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Then he added, "As long as Miss Cheng returns the Cloud Sword to me, I am willing to do three things for you." As the young man extended three fingers, solemnly making his promise, he appeared to think she should feel honored that he could do things for her.
Cheng Xiaoxiao twitched her lips, pondering, Cloud... Sword, what sword was that? Could it be the sword that dropped when she saved him? She seemed to have completely forgotten about it, not knowing in which corner of the storage she had put it.
System: "Host, it should be that."
"That sword was my reward for saving you, and now you want... want it back?" Cheng Xiaoxiao retorted.
Dongfang Xu was frustrated, she really took his sword as a payment. "Miss Cheng must be joking. The Cloud Sword is an heirloom of my family, and it cannot fall into the hands of outsiders. Otherwise, it would be disrespectful and unfilial to my ancestors. Please, Miss Cheng, understand."
Cheng Xiaoxiao puffed her cheeks thoughtfully, opening her mouth with an innocent face, "What does your unfilial behavior have to do with me?"
"You..." Dongfang Xu stretched out his hand pointing at Cheng Xiaoxiao, clenched it into a fist, and then took it back.
"Then what does Miss want?"
A hint of frustration and gritted teeth could be felt.
Cheng Xiaoxiao spread one hand, "I don’t want anything!"
She walked past Dongfang Xu with large strides.
Dongfang Xu, both helpless and frustrated, had no choice but to follow her.
"Miss, name your condition! Even if it’s a sea of flames or a mountain of knives, I will do everything in my power to accomplish it for you."
Cheng Xiaoxiao stopped in her tracks, turned around, "Really, you are willing to do anything, anything at all?"
"Naturally!" Dongfang Xu replied confidently.
While his enemies may be strong, as long as it’s not against a grand force, taking a few heads is no problem for him, as long as she asked.
"Then would you be willing to marry me?"
Cheng Xiaoxiao said with a serious innocent look, staring straight at the young man even afraid to take off his hood, her sharp gaze seemed to penetrate the hood, seeing the shockingly bewildered face beneath.
Dongfang Xu, upon hearing these words, was indeed stunned on the spot. He had considered various scenarios where Miss Cheng would ask him to do impossible tasks and had mentally prepared himself. Never did he expect her to say something completely unrelated.
Momentarily suspecting his own hearing, he stammered, "Miss... Cheng... you... you must be joking..."
Seeing his unacceptable look, Cheng Xiaoxiao turned and walked away.
Indeed, Cheng Xiaoxiao was deliberately making him uncomfortable, who asked him to grab her by the collar, who asked him to throw her to the ground and let people watch? Doesn’t the girl care about face?
Not to mention, ancient men were all like this, pledging eternal love, facing danger fearlessly, being willing to sacrifice for love or family. Making vows casually was a big lie.
Making grand promises beforehand, then failing to meet even a small request, what else could he talk about facing danger fearlessly? What a joke. If he’s already willing to risk his life, why would he care about his reputation or body?
Shaking her head, these ancient men couldn’t be relied upon, their views so problematic... and they were thousands of years apart culturally.
In the midst of her thoughts, she arrived at the main area where people were heatedly debating. The crowd suddenly turned to look in her direction.
Taking this opportunity, Cheng Xiaoxiao loudly declared, "Tonight’s plan is canceled."
The group was stunned, looking at each other, wondering whether this little girl... hadn’t fully awakened yet?
What’s more, what does a little girl understand? The plan was long set, how could it be canceled at her word, who did she think she was?
Immediately someone in the crowd objected, "Little girl, if you don’t understand, don’t speak out of turn. This is a big matter."
Cheng Xiaoxiao disregarded everyone’s disdain, speaking shockingly, "The bandits already know all of your plans. Continuing means only death."
The crowd was astounded. Qian Fusheng, the leader, took three steps in two strides to reach Cheng Xiaoxiao, "Are you sure about that, Miss? Do you have evidence?"
Looking at the old man with white hair at the temples, the system said he was Boss Qian’s butler. The old man wasn’t very old, perhaps between middle and old age. Cheng Xiaoxiao wasn’t sure what to call him.
And Qian Fusheng thought that Miss Cheng didn’t know him, yet he had heard of Miss Cheng from others. He introduced himself, "I am Qian Fusheng, Mr. Qian’s butler. This rescue plan was all orchestrated by me. I don’t know where the problem lies, has it really been leaked?" If so, the hope of rescuing Mr. Qian was slim.
Niu Da comforted, "Brother Qian, what Miss Cheng said is just speculation. There is no evidence that our plan was leaked."
"Who says I have no evidence?" Cheng Xiaoxiao casually interjected.
The crowd once again turned their eyes to Cheng Xiaoxiao.
"My people have already gone to investigate, and there will be results soon."
Everyone was still incredulous, yet they were no longer as eager to discuss the rescue as before, fearing Cheng Xiaoxiao might be right.
The atmosphere became eerily quiet.
Qian Fusheng immediately ordered his trusted aides to contact the person in charge of the connection in town.
The connector Ah Hu had mingled as a small leader in the bandit den. His entire family had been killed by bandits.
Back then, when he was only about ten, he was traveling with his parents, brother, and the entire caravan to a mountain foot. Due to the hot weather, the caravan stopped to rest, and he, seeking coolness, had eaten too many iced plums, resulting in severe diarrhea and exhaustion. Delayed for a long time, just as he felt slightly better and was about to return, he heard the clash of swords, scaring him to hide in the bushes, not daring to move. He clutched his mouth tightly, watching his dying mother shake her head at him, watching one family member after another fall into pools of blood, tears streaming down his face, filled with pain and despair.
Having such a deep-seated hatred, Ah Hu thought of revenge every day. How could he betray? Could it be someone under him betrayed?
Unable to solve the puzzle, Qian Fusheng could only suppress his anxiety, waiting for the news to return...
