Sacrificial Bride to the Feared Lord Hastings-Chapter 239: Clash (3)
Lilith hoped the men around would talk some sense into Sebastian, but none of them dared to speak up.
The knights were all afraid of Sebastian because it was evident he had harmed Edward and would soon be crowned king. He had a tyrannical personality, so no one wanted to step on his shoes.
Lilith was forced to go along with Sebastian, though she so desperately wanted to hide. She had played nicely with Althea, but was set to be the wife of the man Althea hated most at the moment. She could die alongside Sebastian.
’Cocky bastard,’ Lilith cursed Sebastian in her head.
Lilith had noticed that as Sebastian’s plans came to a close, he was getting too confident. He acted before he thought his plans through.
There was no reason for Sebastian to go directly to the woman who wanted to kill him and then drag her along with him, but like the knights around, Lilith couldn’t speak up. She was the woman who didn’t complain and went along with all his plans so she wouldn’t lose any favour with Sebastian.
The price to pay for being so obedient was now being dragged towards a deadly fight.
Lilith flinched when she heard yelling and the clashing of swords in the distance. She looked at Sebastian and found him smiling. She knew he was crazy, but to be this excited was too crazy.
Lilith prayed for her father to come quickly. She couldn’t reap the benefits of putting up with Sebastian for so long if she were dead.
"Open your eyes and look, Lilith. This is history in the making," said Sebastian.
Lilith peered down at the men fighting below. Maids and visitors of the palace ran to get out of the way, but some were unfortunate enough to fall as they got caught up in the fight.
Lilith couldn’t tell which of the men fighting belonged to the palace or to Althea’s father. They all looked the same, so she was certain that the men might be killing each other.
Lilith panicked when she noticed one important detail. "I do not see Althea or her father. You must send more knights to search for her."
"I’m sure she is hiding with her bastards. I will find them all and hang them by nightfall," said Sebastian.
"Sebastian, you mustn’t underestimate that woman. She has been in the palace for many years to know some secrets-"
"I have been in the palace from birth. What could that woman possibly know that I do not?" Sebastian asked and released Lilith since she was starting to bore him.
"You were not the one sharing the bed with a king. There are plans a man will share with his wife in bed that he will not share with others. Think for one moment why Althea would be so bold to attack the palace when she knows you have the men to outnumber her. This feels like a distraction," Lilith said, worried for her safety.
"She has chosen to attack because she knows she is going to die. She should have run instead of following her father’s plans to attack the palace. Althea has always been a fool, and if you don’t get your act together now, you will join her to be hanged. Choose wisely," Sebastian said, close to tossing Lilith over the wall.
"I stand with you, but I also want to be safe. You mustn’t underestimate her because you view her as weak. I think this is all a distraction. Either she wants to sneak around to get to the king-"
"He is dead," Sebastian interjected.
"Or maybe someone is searching to kill you while your knights are distracted by this fight. Where is your brother? I think she would go after him," Lilith said, turning to the knights.
"To do what? Go after the people I love?"
Lilith wanted to scream at Sebastian that he loved no one. There was no one around Sebastian to hurt to get a reaction out of him. He was the very man who plotted to kill his father, and now he wanted to kill his half-siblings.
"If she were to kill him, perhaps it would be better for me," Sebastian confessed. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"What? You said that your brother wouldn’t be touched. You two share the same mother, so why now would you change it?" Lilith asked, confused by what was going on inside Sebastian’s head.
"He was safe until my father thought to change the way of this palace so he could become king," Sebastian shared.
"So what? Your father is dead, and your brother never had an interest in becoming the king-"
"It bothers me that you are on my brother’s side. You care for him a bit too much when you should be concerned only with my well-being. Is there a secret affection for my brother that I did not know about? Tell me," Sebastian said as he approached Lilith.
"I don’t hold any feelings for your brother. You spoke so highly of him and how he was the only sibling you cared for. Knowing that, I thought of him as my brother. I worry that because of the tension in the palace right now, you might do something you regret," said Lilith.
"Is that all?" Sebastian asked, still suspicious.
"It is. I have never done anything to displease you, Sebastian. I speak of this now because I care for you and consider all that you told me. I worry now because you might do something you will regret. Your brother never wished to be king, and he would be foolish to go against you," Lilith tried to reason with Sebastian.
If there was anyone Sebastian could trust, it was his brother.
It would be foolish to kill the one person Sebastian could trust most in the palace.
"Lilith," Sebastian said and forcibly grabbed her hand. "I liked it when you were quiet and went along with my plans. I suppose this fight has scared you. Take the lady to her bedchamber so she can calm herself. I believe the fear is making you act like this."
"Leave my side before you lose my interest in you," Sebastian said, turning away from Lilith to finish the show. "And Lilith, let this be the only time you have doubts about my plans. You won’t live a long life as queen if you do this frequently."
"I hope you see that I am never against you, Your Majesty," Lilith said with a curtsy. "I shall leave your side."
Sebastian glanced at Lilith as she won him over a little by addressing him correctly. Once the fight was over, Lilith should be back to normal.
