Chapter 48: Qin’s mother’s Attempt to Butter Up

"True! Even if I’m not here in the future, Ze still has you, his brothers," Xia Weiguo finally found peace in his heart. The conversation he had just overheard brought a smile to his lips. Yijia is indeed an exceptional girl. She not only treats Ze sincerely but, more importantly, Ze likes her. Xia Weiguo knows Ze’s temper better than anyone, especially in his current state, it’s not easy for him to open up to people around him. The fact that he could get along so well with Yijia in such a short time means he likes her a lot.

Miss! Miss! May you bless Ze and his wife from the heavens, ensuring their safety and a peaceful life throughout their days.

Xia Weiguo looked at the myriad of stars in the sky, a smile playing at the corner of his mouth. He knew Ze’s personality better than anyone else. The more he was like this, the harder it was for him to open up to those around him. To be able to get along so well with Yijia so quickly meant that he truly liked her.

Early the next morning, when Su Yijia woke up and saw Qin Kaize already awake, staring at the ceiling, she reached for the watch under her pillow. The watch displayed the time as nine o’clock, and she felt a bit guilty.

"Sorry! Sorry! I overslept." She sat up and scratched her head, then quickly helped Qin Kaize up and onto his wheelchair.

She poured some hot water and mixed it with cold water to get the right temperature. After taking a few sips herself, she fed Qin Kaize a few spoonfuls. His throat felt much better, and then she pushed him in his wheelchair out of the room.

Xia Weiguo, Gao Huabin, and two security guards were practicing martial arts in the yard. Qin Kaize’s mother was washing and picking vegetables, looking anxious as she tried to get closer to them, but unsure of how to approach them.

Even after being ignored for three hours straight, she still couldn’t figure out how to regain her footing.

She couldn’t help but feel that the people in this military unit were overly disciplined. It was a holiday, yet they woke up at six in the morning. Even during their practice, they showed no signs of relaxation.

"Yijia, you’re awake. Gao went to the state-owned restaurant this morning to buy pork buns and soy milk for you. They’ve been warming up on the stove," Xia Weiguo said, smiling with affection and indulgence at them as soon as Su Yijia and Qin Kaize appeared in the yard.

"Thank you, Uncle Xia, and thank you, Comrade Gao. Kaize and I will freshen up first," Su Yijia replied obediently, walked to the bathroom, and then stepped back out.

"Comrade Gao, do you know how to steam egg custard?" she asked.

"I do!" Gao Huabin replied quickly. "It’s my specialty. Wait a moment, Sister-in-law. I’ll steam it for you."

Seeing everyone circling around Su Yijia after being ignored for the entire morning made Qin Kaize’s mother seethe with anger. However, she dared not jump in and spoil the mood. Instead, she clenched her teeth and glared at Su Yijia with resentment.

Su Yijia sensed her malicious intent but chose to ignore it. After all, getting angry at someone who was utterly powerless would only lead to internal disorders and early menopause for Qin Kaize’s mother. It wouldn’t affect her in any way.

She collected some water in a cup and squeezed toothpaste onto a toothbrush, then knelt on the floor to help Qin Kaize brush his teeth. The foamy mixture of water and toothpaste dripped from the toothbrush handle onto her hand, then slid down her arm and finally dropped onto the floor. But Su Yijia didn’t show any signs of disgust. She didn’t even flinch. Her gaze was unwavering, focused entirely on Qin Kaize.

Qin Kaize felt like his heart was malfunctioning. Countless times, because of the girl in front of him, he experienced heart palpitations and warmth.
