Chapter 276: Yin Linjiang’s Protection

When a man is as passionate as a burning house, his fighting spirit is unimaginably intense. Even if he can’t achieve a perfect score, he will use every possible means to get the highest score he can. The methods he employs are so numerous that before Su Yijia passed out, she finally remembered what book this was. It seemed that the female lead might have switched from Su Xinyue to her. All the talents that Su Xinyue’s group of boyfriends had were now concentrated in Qin Kaize alone.

Qin Kaize looked at the girl in his arms with a hint of regret and kissed her tenderly several times. Only when time became pressing did he carry her to the bathroom.

The next day, Su Yijia woke up early. Aside from making breakfast for Gao Huabin as a send-off, her main goal was to water the seedlings outside before anyone else. It was the third day since she planted them, and she wanted them to sprout before anyone else’s vegetables did. She even prioritized watering the plants over her morning routine.

"Why didn’t you wait for me?" Qin Kaize asked, having finished preparing the toothpaste and warm water for her face. When he couldn’t find her in the house, he came out to the yard.

He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her on the cheek before letting go, mindful of not drawing too much attention since it could lead to gossip among the neighborhood women.

"I can’t just be a hands-off boss when it comes to my vegetables," Su Yijia replied with a plausible excuse.

As a city girl, having a piece of land for growing vegetables wasn’t easy. She needed to seize this opportunity to observe how the growth rate of the plants differed when using the diluted spiritual spring water.

Although she could grow things in her space, it wasn’t very large. For instance, she had only planted a quarter of the area with ginseng and other herbs that took over ten years to mature.

Now that a quarter was free for fruits and vegetables, she hoped that if the results were similar outside, she could grow everything there instead of occupying the limited space. It would also make it easier to justify what to do with the fruits and vegetables later.

"Why are you being so meticulous with me?" Qin Kaize lightly flicked her earlobe, his tone deepening. Though he didn’t use much force, Su Yijia still gave him a reproachful look.

Taking the wooden ladle from her hand, he said, "Go wash up. The water will get cold if you wait too long."

It’s summer; who cares about cold water? Su Yijia thought but acknowledged that washing with warm water would clean better after a night’s sleep. The water for the plants was already mixed, so anyone could do the watering.

"Remember to wash your hands afterward," she reminded him. Once he nodded, she went inside.

Breakfast consisted of salted duck egg porridge and pumpkin cakes, which everyone enjoyed. After cleaning up, they planned to escort Gao Huabin to the train station. Gao Huabin, alarmed by the idea, quickly refused.

"No need to trouble yourselves. Let the guard take me," he said.

"No trouble at all. I’ll take you," Qin Kaize replied calmly.

Gao Huabin, sensing there was more to it, didn’t argue further. Su Yijia, however, tugged at Qin Kaize’s clothes, insisting she wanted to go too.

"I didn’t get to explore the city last time," she pleaded.

"You and your grandparents get terribly seasick," Qin Kaize frowned.

"They’re old and can’t handle it, but I’m young and can manage," Su Yijia argued.

Qin Kaize’s eyes darkened.

"Take me, please! I need to get used to the island life if we end up moving here," she blinked her big eyes, looking at Qin Kaizhe with a pleading expression.

In the end, he couldn’t bear to refuse her, acting like a little girl trying to charm him. Su Yijia quickly waved goodbye to her grandparents. The two who originally wanted to join ended up not pushing themselves to avoid causing trouble for the kids.

After seeing Gao Huabin off at the train station and reminding him of everything, they made sure he was aware of the need to keep an eye on Su Xinyue and Qin Mingchen, and to watch out for any underhanded actions from Yin Linjiang.

They also needed to clarify matters regarding the black market and Xu Lianan, ensuring everything that could be done was taken care of.

After sending Gao Huabin off, Su Yijia curiously asked, "Isn’t Yin Linjiang already incapacitated? How could he still be a threat?"

Qin Kaizhe frowned at the complex web of relationships involved. "We found out he has ties to a prominent family in Jingdu City. When we were dealing with him, that side had the power to protect him."

"A prominent family? That sounds troublesome!" Su Yijia straightened up, suddenly serious.

Qin Kaizhe hadn’t expected her to know about this, and he regretted being so blunt earlier. "Don’t worry. He’s done so many dirty things; we’ll definitely get our revenge."

Killing his mother-in-law was something that could never be forgiven, no matter how complicated things got.

"Take your time. It’s already been twenty years; a little longer doesn’t matter," Su Yijia said, shaking her head. She looked seriously at Qin Kaizhe. "What’s most important is that we live our lives well. We can seek revenge when the time is right, but we mustn’t rush and end up losing ourselves in the process.

And we can put off going back to Hu City for now. I can study here with Uncle Xia, and just go back for the exam days."

The third generation of Jingdu City’s prominent families were already in their twenties, and some were even starting to speak as toddlers in the fourth generation. The relationships were incredibly tangled; even if Qin Kaizhe and Uncle Xia were capable, they wouldn’t be able to take on one or several of these families.

"But how did Yin Linjiang, a local from Hu City, get involved with a family from Jingdu City?" Su Yijia couldn’t understand it at all.

Especially since various factions were starting to return, yet someone still stepped in to protect Yin Linjiang. That connection had to be quite powerful.

Qin Kaizhe gave her a meaningful glance and pulled over to the side of the road. "I’ve already sent someone to investigate. This matter is somewhat related to your father. The one protecting him is your father’s current wife."

"What?!" Su Yijia’s round apricot eyes widened in shock. The anger surging in her heart almost made her want to take matters into her own hands and deal with Yin Linjiang directly.

"My people are still looking into the specifics. But to avoid alerting anyone, the investigation is progressing slowly," Qin Kaizhe said, gently rubbing Su Yijia’s slightly cold fingertips.

Taking a deep breath, she suppressed her anger and continued to ask, "So, how much have you discovered so far?"

Although it hadn’t been a full month, she didn’t expect much to come of it, but it was better to know more for planning ahead.
