The plan of Wang Zhongyu was passed on to the remaining warriors through word of mouth, and everyone immediately understood and began to take action.
Wang Zhongyu’s idea was very simple; he planned to turn the tables and use the Frenzy’s excessive reflexes to carve a path of escape for them.
So...
Picking up a shard of broken glass, Wang Zhongyu posed to throw it.
Meanwhile, Xu Renjie also timely raised three fingers, intending to remind his squad members to throw together in a moment.
The Pacers continued advancing step by step, excited and unable to control themselves at the sight of six motionless prey not far ahead.
All the squad members maintained a silent posture, watching Xu Renjie’s right hand intently.
No one spoke, no one moved, even their breathing was adjusted to the calmest state.
They understood very well that the success or failure of the plan hinged on whether the sound they made would successfully attract the attention of the Frenzy.
Therefore, before that could happen, they needed to maintain absolute silence to avoid making other noises that could interfere with the Frenzy’s judgment.
Under such pressure, no one could remain absolutely calm; sweat unknowingly soaked through the clothes of each team member.
Xu Renjie was fully focused, his eyes unblinking as he observed the horde of Pacers ten meters away, bearing the heavy responsibility of giving the throw signal as the highest commander in the team.
Closer! Closer! Closer still! 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
To maximize the success rate of the operation, Xu Renjie resisted the urge to begin.
After a long wait of 40 seconds, Xu Renjie’s raised right hand finally moved.
Almost there! Judging by eye, the "beasts" were now entirely within effective throwing range, and Xu Renjie subsequently lowered three fingers.
"One! Two!"
As the third finger dropped, the six squad members almost simultaneously threw the glass shards in their hands.
The translucent glass shards arced through the air, then one after another fell to the ground.
"Pa! Papap!" The dropping sound wasn’t loud, but the expansiveness of the environment amplified the originally subtle noise.
In addition, these slight sounds caught the attention of the "beasts," who instinctively lowered their heads, causing unavoidable additional noise while squeezing around.
Combined with their low growls born of curiosity, the three elements overlapped, thus triggering a domino effect.
There was no doubt that the first step of Wang Zhongyu’s plan had achieved considerable success as they managed to make a sound loud enough to attract the Frenzy.
Then, it depended on whether the protagonist of the task, the Frenzy, would follow Wang Zhongyu’s imagined plot.
Three seconds, or maybe two, or perhaps even less, for just as Wang Zhongyu was lost in anxious thoughts, the Frenzy—struck in the calf by Xu Renjie’s knife and maddeningly swinging its fists—suddenly sprinted without warning.
Since everything happened so abruptly, even though Wang Zhongyu was prepared, the speed of the Frenzy exceeded his expectations.
Though surprised, the warriors beside him were ready long beforehand.
Someone from behind suddenly tugged at his clothes, and Wang Zhongyu felt a strong force pulling him, then he was yanked away like a chick.
The gust almost brushed past his nasal wing. If not for the crucial pull just then, Wang Zhongyu would likely have ended up as a cushion under the Frenzy’s angry stomps.
Narrowly escaping, Wang Zhongyu naturally wanted to thank his rescuer, but just then, the Frenzy, attracted by the noise, had already charged into the Pacers’ ranks.
The Pacers, inherently weak and fragile, could not withstand the Frenzy’s ferocious impact, causing chaos—a scene that was pretty unbearable to watch.
After all, these Pacers were newly mutated zombies by the virus, capable of only the most basic motor functions.
Thus, facing the more powerful Frenzy, they unsurprisingly found themselves at a disadvantage.
The Frenzy, charging into enemy formation, immediately entered an unstoppable mode, its fists hitting surrounding Pacers like flying mace chains, leaving devastation wherever they passed.
Yet, despite the Frenzy’s fierce attacks, they lacked significant lethality, at least against the fellow zombie Pacers, making its methods seem feeble by comparison.
Firstly, they are both zombie variants, so things like "assimilation mutation" are of no concern to Pacers.
Secondly, with fatigue and pain, the Pacers, retaining only one sense, lost all sensations except for hearing.
Therefore, they could completely ignore the Frenzy’s physical attacks.
Thus, a battle that should theoretically lean to one side transformed into an equally matched standoff.
Undoubtedly, the Pacers had no interest in the Frenzy’s rampant provocations, keeping their focus entirely on the succulent prey fifteen meters away.
In an instant, the battle turned into a rather ridiculous scene.
The Pacers persistently tried to advance and hunt, while the Frenzy reflexively blocked them, punching down any risen Pacers.
But how could the Pacers withdraw so easily? Modified by the virus, their purpose was to drink blood and eat flesh, causing them, driven by desire, to rise again after being knocked down, leading into an endless cycle.
Ultimately, it was all about who would tire and fall first!
Watching the scene unfold not far away, the squad members found it amusing yet helpless.
After all, their purpose in creating this scene was to open an escape route, but the outcome saw them become bystanders to the Frenzy playing a ’Whac-A-Mole’ game.
This was quite unexpected for the plan’s initiator Wang Zhongyu, who never anticipated the two sides with seemingly stark contrasts entering a fairly harmonious stalemate.
Consequently, the squad’s escape plan turned into idle talk.
The situation returned to square one, and breaking through once again became an issue the squad could not avoid reassessing... (A doughnut event from the sky, cool phones await!
