Chapter 249: Slower

Confused, Ackster pulled out a broken rod of a material he couldn’t tell whether it was stone, metal, pearl, porcelain, jade, or ivory. But it looked like the handle of a pole weapon. It was just that the weapon-half of the pole weapon had broken off and left only a handle with a tip only pointy due to the structure of the break.

The Sword God’s eyes lit up as he looked at what Ackster pulled out.

"Oh, my disciple, do pray tell what that in your hand be?"

’What?’

As he held it in his hands, Ackster vaguely remembered it as the shiny branch he picked up from the Sea God Temple and stuffed in his Inventory before trying to escape the crumbling Temple. It shouldn’t be a sword, but considering it might have even been the Sea God’s weapon, Ackster could understand why even the Sword God was interested.

"Uh, it’s something I picked up."

"I see. Most curious. May I see it?"

Ackster was reluctant to hand over the broken handle since it came from the Sea God. But he was also reluctant to get decapitated again. Since it seemed like the Sword God had accepted him as his sword or disciple or something, he doubted he would be killed as easily. But with the way the Sword God was talking, Ackster couldn’t trust him.

Ackster decided to play it safe for now and let the Sword Good take a look at the handle.

The Sword God grabbed the broken handle with both hands and held it up against the light to get a proper look. He looked at it with a face of something similar to worship.

Suddenly, his face switched back to his standard, neutral expression, and he tossed the handle back to Ackster.

"Neat thing."

Ackster looked up from the handle at the Sword God in surprise.

"You don’t want it?"

"It’s not a sword. Why would I? Besides, it’s yours, isn’t it? Even if you are my disciple, I can’t take everything you have."

Ackster furrowed his brows slightly as the Sword God was making so much sense that he found it difficult to follow.

"Thank you."

"No need for thanks. Now, put that away and get up. It’s about time I do my job as your Master."

Ackster’s eyes lit up. Personal guidance from the Sword God was something even The Hero hadn’t gotten. He was looking forward to it. The Sword God even personally picked up his hand and gave it back to him.

Ackster nodded in gratitude while reattaching it.

"Okay. Watch and learn."

The Sword God waited until Ackster was ready before taking a stance and showing Ackster how to stand. A moment later, Ackster was pretty sure he saw the Sword God’s sleeve flutter slightly.

"Get it?"

’Seriously?’

"...No. Do you think you can slow it down a little?"

"Hmm. Okay."

This time, Ackster noticed a slight breeze.

"Am I not supposed to have a sword?"

"You are a Nesting Doll Sword. If you don’t work, use the one inside you. Now, did you get it?"

"Sorry. Can you slow it down a little more?"

"Hrrm."

The Sword God hummed with a frown of annoyance before sighing and doing it again, a little slower.

’This isn’t good.’

Although getting taught by the Sword God was once in a thousand lifetimes experience, it wouldn’t do anything if he couldn’t even see or guess what the Sword God was teaching him.

The Sword God did the same thing as before. Ackster could faintly see a blur pass through the air vertically after tuning his Overhuman Senses to the max. But he still had no idea what it was that he was supposed to do.

"Like this?"

Ackster swept down with his hand like he was executing a very fast vertical strike with a sword in his hand.

"No."

The Sword God rubbed his chin while looking at Ackster with a frown. It looked like he was disappointed in the disciple he had picked up.

"Maybe you will learn better from experiencing it yourself."

Ackster felt a chill run down his spine, and less than a second later, a cold sensation passed right through his shoulder. Shortly after that, his entire arm fell to the ground. Ackster picked up his arm and reattached the arm.

He looked at the Sword God while activating his Overhuman Senses beyond the limit with Limit Breaker. Before he could start thinking about what to imitate, he first had to see it.

"Again, please. I think I can learn if we continue like this. It will take some time, but please be patient, Master."

"As long as you learn, I don’t care."

"Thank you, Master."

The fact that he had felt something other than his arm suddenly dropping to the floor was proof that he could feel something more. It meant he could pick up what the Sword God was doing as long as the Sword God continued.

The Sword God didn’t even wait for Ackster to finish talking before cutting off Ackster’s other arm cleanly enough that he could reattach it almost immediately.

Repeating the same process but varying Ackster’s arms as targets, the Sword God continued teaching Ackster. And Ackster did his best to learn, but he never sensed anything more than something instantly severing his arm.

Still, he didn’t give up, and it didn’t seem like the Sword God had any plans on doing that, either. Ackster continued trying to understand what the Sword God was doing with his body, and the Sword God continued dismembering him.

"Excuse me, Master."

Ackster spoke while bending down to pick up his arm since that was the only moment that he didn’t need to focus on what the Sword God was doing to him.

"Isn’t there something before this that I can learn first? Maybe a simpler version or the basics of swordsmanship?"

"You’re a sword. Don’t you already know the basics? And you are strong enough to do this. It’s just a matter of doing."

With a sigh, Ackster continued getting dismembered, hoping that maybe it would earn him a skill.

’What if this is all he is doing?’
