Roadmap to the Boundless Sky-Chapter 60Book 3, : Located
Wu Bei searched through the traces left behind by the dominant domain signal and found that the signal had traveled an unusually long path, even using several Realm Nodes as springboards and going in circles at times.
That wasn’t all. At certain Realm Nodes, the attacker had set up additional security measures, which forced Wu Bei to tread carefully whenever he passed a new Realm Node. Otherwise, he might trigger the alarms that the attacker left behind.
If the attacker discovered that Wu Bei was looking for him, they would cut off the signal at one of the connecting Realm Nodes, and Wu Bei wouldn’t be able to find them anymore.
But if Wu Bei spent too long looking for him, the chances of him being discovered would also increase.
So, after a while, he said, “Chen Chuan, this guy is really skilled, and he has that biofield’s support. He has set up a lot of security measures, so I will need some time to find him. If only the Realm Nodes would let me use their channels. Then, I would be able to find that guy faster, just like last time.”
He had been given the authority to use the country’s Realm Nodes to fight against the Gong family and Xiongjian Yi’s technician. He had been really confident back then, but they had performed a domain interference, which prevented Wu Bei from being able to show off his skills.
“Let me try something,” Chen Chuan said and immediately contacted Ni Qianqian. He gave her the gist of the situation and asked whether the department could give him the authority to use the Realm Nodes.
“Can you give me proof that you have been attacked?” Ni Qianqian asked.
“The Realm Pass the department gave me has a record of being under a dominant interference attack and having a dominant domain signal attached to it,” Chen Chuan pointed out.
“Good. That’ll be enough. Wait a minute. Let me get it processed,” Ni Qianqian replied.
After merely two minutes, Ni Qianqian came back and said, “It’s done. Can you two handle it? If not, I can ask someone from the department to help you.”
“Thanks, Officer Ni, but we can take care of it from here,” Chen Chuan stated.
“Alright. Be careful. If you need any further help, call me.”
Now that he had support from the Resolution Department, Wu Bei perked up. He no longer had to sneak past each Realm Node and even got help from them.
Before, the Realm Nodes were like impenetrable fortresses, and he had to sneak past their “guards” to search for traces. Now, they were warehouses full of resources. It was a great feeling having access to the Realm Nodes. He chased after the attacker, and soon, he found the source.
“Got it! I’ll send you the location,” he exclaimed in excitement.
Immediately, Chen Chuan saw a map of Central City on his Realm Pass’ screen. It had a red dot at Deep End District. Once he zoomed in on the red dot, he found that it was near an eco park.
Central City was full of green spaces, and Deep End District had the highest number of them. There were quite a few large hills and parks there.
In the earlier days, the rich loved going to such places. Later on, they started preferring more developed spaces. As time went by, gangs and criminals took over the hills and parks. The red dot was at a hillside, which happened to be one of the gathering places.
Chen Chuan observed the map a little longer before asking, “So, that person is there?”
“This is the place from which he released his domain signal. It’s where his Realm Pass is. I can’t guarantee that he’s still there in person.”
Chen Chuan picked up the Frost King Saber and went out as he said, “That’s fine. I’ll check that place first.”
If he found the attacker, he would kill them. If they weren’t there, he would be able to find some clues as to where they might have gone. With their Realm Pass, Wu Bei would be able to get more information.
Chen Chuan went to the tram station and hopped on the tram. Forty-five minutes later, he arrived at Deep End District and got out near the hillside.
Since there were plenty of landscaped areas here, many plants grew on walls and roofs. At this moment, there was a sunshower, leading to rays of light seeping through gaps formed by dark walls and intertwining vines. They intersected between the buildings and made the place look like a large cage.
The colorful lights and ever-present advertisements appeared much more comforting here.
A damp breeze blew at Chen Chuan due to the rain. He put on the waterproof hood and walked out of the tram station. While stepping on the puddles, he headed to the place where the red dot was, and reached the foot of a black hill.
Just then, Wu Bei said, “The target hasn’t moved. By the way, I’m not certain, but I think there are domain alarms set up around the place. If you go over like that, you will trip them off.”
Chen Chuan scanned the place. “Those domain alarms might not be the only defense.”
He didn’t believe that his attacker didn’t set up any defenses after making this place their base. Aside from the domain alarms, they should have set up real traps too.
“Since this person is skilled, in order to prevent domain interference and light attacks, I’m going to turn off my Realm Pass and cut my connection with you,” Chen Chuan declared.
“Got it. Be careful.”
While Wu Bei found it a pity, he knew that this was necessary. The attacker was really skilled. Even if Wu Bei could use the Realm Nodes, he couldn’t guarantee not making any mistakes.
Chen Chuan took out some medicine. He only used a portion of them, but he made it look like he used all of it. This was a show for the people who might be watching him from the Resolution Department.
Then, he turned off his Realm Pass, overlapped with his second self, and headed inside.
With his second self absorbing all biofield damages, the attacks would seem like they had landed in a void and wouldn’t cause any obvious biofield interactions. Chen Chuan wasn’t sure whether he could fool his attacker this way, but it was worth a try, and he could even use this chance to see whether this strategy worked.
Just as Chen Chuan expected, there were indeed some traps along the way, but they were too slow for him and couldn’t take down a strong martial artist. They were only good for wild beasts.
After avoiding multiple suspicious places, Chen Chuan reached the hillside. Before him stood a tall house made of bricks and wood built between three large trees. Flexible vines stretched into the house to reinforce it.
There was a long, wide canopy at the entrance, but no front door. There was only a curtain covering the way inside. The elevated floor leading inside was made of wood and lighted up by a few intersecting lights.
At that moment, Phantom Form was leaning against the wall while cradling his chest and gasping for breath. He looked like he had lost dozens of kilograms of weight. The outline of his muscles and bones could be seen clearly under his skin, and blood was flowing out from all over him. There was a wound going from his chest to his stomach that had been cut open a dozen times over and was recovering at the moment.
After tasting fresh blood and flesh, the supernatural being had returned to the statue. It was satisfied, but only for a time. As long as the problem wasn’t fixed, Phantom Form would end up getting devoured.
Now that the supernatural being had eaten parts of him twice, he knew that the raccoon waited until his injuries recovered to a certain degree before going to feast on its “offering” again.
Hence, if he controlled the speed of his recovery, he could have some time.
But he wasn’t sure whether the raccoon would be patient. According to what he understood of it and what was written in the records, he could only delay the inevitable for around up to five days at most.
He had to solve this problem within that time frame.
Phantom Form didn’t like dirtying his hands when killing people. He had always preferred to be fully prepared and set things up meticulously for his assassinations. It made him feel fulfilled, like how a child would when he succeeded in building something out of wooden blocks. He didn’t like fighting. In his eyes, little skill was involved in that.
But now, he had no other choice.
Yet even after he made the decision, he had a problem at hand. After he attacked his target, the student had gone into hiding in Martial Valor University, so how was he supposed to kill him?
Perhaps he should make use of the target’s friends and family...
While he was considering his options, he suddenly heard something outside and looked out warily. “Who’s there?”
Steady footsteps came from outside the house. Through the fluttering door curtain, he saw a person coming closer to the elevated floor. The lights under the canopy shone on the person’s tall body. The person wore a windproof, hooded black jacket, and carried a saber.
The saber reached out to push the curtain back, and Chen Chuan came in. Vines were crawling all over the walls like messy cables. At the end, they converged in the corner of the house, where a raccoon statue stood.
This was proof. He had found the right place.
Chen Chuan then cast a glance at Phantom Form, who had just straightened up. The man wore canvas pants and a torn dress shirt. Although his only injuries were on his chest and stomach, his whole body was covered in blood.
The man had long limbs, a slightly hunched back, pale skin, sallow cheeks, damp hair that stuck to his skin, and bloodshot eyes. But his muscles were tight and firm, showing that he had an outstanding physique.
After pushing his hood down, Chen Chuan revealed his handsome face and lively eyes. Raindrops fell on the floor from his hood.
“I hope I’m not bothering you by visiting so late,” he said politely.
Phantom Form was stunned. Then, he immediately used his Realm Pass to scan the visitor and check the area around the hill. Despite his surprise, he was thrilled.
He was astonished by the fact that his target had found him through the dominant domain signal and tracked him to this place. The best part, though, was that his target had come alone.
Now, he didn’t need to think of a way to get him out of Martial Valor University. He could solve his problem immediately.
In a hoarse voice, he asked, “Did the fact that you won against Tan Wang give you the courage to come here?”
Zhao Qian hadn’t given him everything known about his target, but Tan Wang’s case was just too famous. He could find information about it everywhere, so this wasn’t a secret to him.
“You must have taken medicine when you came here. Yes. I can smell it. You have the stink of medicinal powder on you. What was it now...” He grinned. “But you must understand that Third Limit martial artists are different from each other.”
He reached over and grabbed a long staff from the wall. With a twirl of the staff, he bent one leg while placing the other in front of him lightly. He held the bottom end of the staff with one hand and the top section with the other before directing it at Chen Chuan.
