Book 3, Chapter 14: Clean Up

Wu Bei’s anxious voice rang in Chen Chuan’s ears. “They’re coming for you.”

On his Realm Pass, Chen Chuan could see the people coming out of their rooms on the 3D map of the building. Some were rushing over already.

They were moving so quickly that when he turned around and started walking out, he could already hear hurried footsteps outside. When he reached the aisle and was about to enter the hall of the fourth floor, smoke bombs and paralyzing bombs came hurtling his way.

Chen Chuan cast them a glance before overlapping with his second self. At the same time, he charged forward, stirring up a powerful gust. Before the paralyzing bombs and smoke bombs could land, he sent them all back.

Once he stepped into the hall, he looked around and saw six people ahead of him. They had spread out and trained their guns on him. Chen Chuan flipped his wrist over. With a few flashes of his saber, he moved past these people.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The smoke bombs and paralyzing bombs finally landed on the floor. Before the people could even register what had happened, they were engulfed in explosions and smoke.

Over at Wu Bei’s side, the signals in the hall flickered for a moment before all the biofields except Chen Chuan’s vanished completely. He shuddered, then sat still in dumbfounded surprise.

After a while, he recovered from shock, and, filled with excitement, sent the other people’s biofield signals to Chen Chuan’s Realm Pass.

At this point, Chen Chuan had already arrived on the fifth floor. The resonator here kept trying to interfere with and destroy his Realm Pass, but Wu Bei stopped all of their attempts. Even so, the light kept flickering, showing that he was being attacked.

There were two guards around, and they immediately drew guns.

Chen Chuan’s gaze remained calm.

As expected of Central City, everyone here has a gun. Those who aren’t Martial Valor University students can’t get the weapons permit, which means that they’ve received a long-term permit from the government, he thought.

With a flick of his wrist, a saber flash shot past the two guards. Even though they had armor implants, their heads were removed from their necks, and they slumped against the entrance.

Chen Chuan walked further in and passed through a spacious, luxurious hall before arriving in front of a locked room. His Realm Pass showed that the source of the attacks came from there, so he reached out and turned the handle, but didn’t go in straightaway. Rapid gunshots came from within.

He waited patiently. When the gunshots came to an end, he kicked the door open and flicked a stone inside.

Thud.

The head of the resonator inside blasted open.

Chen Chuan didn’t spare them a second glance. Instead, he shut the door and left in a relaxed fashion with the Frost King Saber in hand.

The security guards patrolling the area outside were alerted and charged over. While one squad guarded the elevator, another rushed up the stairs.

But Chen Chuan had killed the resonator who was supposed to support them, and the moment Wu Bei took over the resonator’s place, he switched Chen Chuan’s location to somewhere else on the map.

Which led to Chen Chuan suddenly appearing in front of them in the stairwell, even though he was supposed to be on the fourth floor. When they saw each other, there was less than three meters between them.

The security guard captain leading the charge was shocked, but the group’s long and harsh training made him able to react in time. He didn’t use a gun and even gave up on maintaining his balance, all for the sake of charging at Chen Chuan with all his strength.

In his mind, with his weight and the added weight from his equipment, it would be enough to knock Chen Chuan off balance. Then, the security guards behind him would come forward to subjugate or shoot Chen Chuan in the head at point-blank range.

Chen Chuan’s gaze remained calm. He brought his arm up and swung it to the side.

Boom!

Even though the security guard captain was more than two meters tall and weighed more than two hundred kilograms, he was swept away as easily as if he was just a plushie. He crashed into the wall beside him and got embedded into it. The bricks cracked, showing lines resembling those of a spider web.

Chen Chuan swept another security guard away, sending him flying into another wall before bouncing back to block the other security guards’ paths. Chaos instantly erupted.

Chen Chuan lowered his center of gravity and brought one leg up before charging into the security guards. They were thrown back, as if a car charging down the highway had rammed into them. They had been clustered together, but they were all sent crashing into the walls or ceiling.

Bam!

Chen Chuan stopped. The tiles under his feet shattered. At the same time, the security guards behind him fell from the walls and ceiling. They landed with loud crashes.

Since Wu Bei had managed to deceive the security guards, the rest were still rushing up. When one of them arrived at the entrance leading to the hall, he noticed Chen Chuan and immediately drew his gun.

But before he could fire, he saw a bright flash, and the Frost King Saber’s tip pierced his shoulder. Chen Chuan reached out and shoved his gun away before walking forward with the saber and security guard held in front. The security guard was forced to walk backwards down the stairs, and the security guards behind him all spread out.

When they arrived at a corner, Chen Chuan spun around, bringing the saber with him, and the security guard’s head flew.

The moment he gathered his strength to do this, a security guard jumped over, as if he wanted to grab Chen Chuan in a lock. Yet while he was still airborne, Chen Chuan grabbed his collar, forcing him to a stop. The man’s legs kicked in the air.

Chen Chuan threw the security guard at the wall beside him. As the bricks shattered with a loud bang, the security guard fell limp and motionless.

With two security guards out of the question, Chen Chuan continued down the stairs. None of the other security guards dared to move forward and only pointed their guns at him while sweating bullets. They only watched as he left.

Wu Bei felt adrenaline fill his entire being. Gold Prawn’s security guards were no slouches. The team they hired to protect their assets was full of First and Second Limit martial artists. Yet they were unable to stop Chen Chuan in his tracks in the slightest.

Chen Chuan reached the second floor. He looked over and saw a man with a baseball cap and a ruthless expression blocking his way.

He remembered that face. It was the face of Xiao Man and Brother Chong’s killer. When Bo Chen saw Chen Chuan, his eyes widened in shock and terror. He took a few steps back before turning around and running away without hesitation.

Chen Chuan drew the Halberd Pistol from his trench coat to fire a few shots at Bo Chen. His legs were hit, and he fell to his knees, but he immediately planted his hands on the wall beside him to push himself back up. Even with his legs taken out, he still tried to get away.

Chen Chuan walked over and brought his hand up to give Bo Chen’s head a light smack. A series of sharp cracking sounds came from all over the man’s body.

His head, spine, and the rest of his bones shattered in an instant when Chen Chuan sent a wave of refined force crashing into him. Then, as if his body could no longer keep him upright, he slumped down bonelessly, but he wasn’t dead yet. As such, he was forced to lie on the floor while his skin and flesh sank into him. Even his face changed shape.

“Chen Chuan, Gold Prawn’s main members have received word about your attack and are heading your way. You should leave,” Wu Bei said anxiously.

“It’s fine. I’m waiting for them,” Chen Chuan said.

His words chased away Wu Bei’s anxiety and made him even more excited. “Alright. I’ll think of something. We can’t let them know about the situation here yet.”

With that said, he found the daily chat log from the company’s Realm Node. Soon, he located just who had contact with the people outside, and he used their Realm Passes to send a few fake messages.

***

A Tough Shell car with an aerodynamic design was charging down the main road toward Gold Prawn’s office building. Behind it were a few security vehicles.

Jing Li, Gold Prawn’s chief, was on his way.

The New Year holidays hadn’t ended yet, so they only had a few agents and security guards on shift at the headquarters. Practically all of the group’s elites were with him.

When he heard that the headquarters had been attacked, his gaze turned fierce, but he remained cautious. “Figure out who the intruder is,” he told the resonator with him.

Soon, the resonator came back with results. “Got it. They’re students from an unknown martial arts school. Our guys killed one of their friends earlier.”

Wu Bei had prepared this false information while Chen Chuan and Qi Gao were heading to Gold Prawn in order to mislead them. This was the benefit of jumping into a fight while fully prepared.

The adrenaline he got from watching Chen Chuan fight also made him feel like he was in the zone. Every cell in his body rejoiced and vibrated in excitement, and he was able to execute all sorts of commands instantly. He rubbed his hands together and got ready to fight against Jing Li’s resonator.

“Are you sure?” Jing Li asked.

“Yes. They should have a resonator too. He managed to delay the headquarters’ SOS signal, but that’s all he can do.”

Ten minutes later, Jing Li’s motorcade arrived outside the headquarters. Aside from them, the members from the other parts of Central City had also rushed over after hearing the news. Now, more than ten cars were gathered in the parking lot.

After parking their cars, Jing Li and Gold Prawn’s elites stepped out.

There were sixteen of them. All of them wore stab proof vests, had military-grade implants, and were equipped with a submachine gun. Jing Li had invested all the money he earned over the years in these people.

As long as the elites were around, no matter how many of the other members died, they could continue their business.

Jing Li looked toward the lobby. When he was about to order someone to go in, he saw someone inside. Jing Li had been unable to see him clearly due to all the flickering flashes around him, but a moment later, the flashes disappeared, and he saw the person clearly. It was a young man with a saber, a trench coat, and a scarf. He was walking out of the headquarters like he was just taking a stroll.

Upon seeing this, he ordered, “Fire!”

All the members brought their guns up without hesitation. With their feet planted on the ground, they started shooting in the direction of the door.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

The sound of rapid gunfire filled the air.

Chen Chuan didn’t dodge. He just brought his arm up to block his face while he stood still. The bullets that landed on him all fell down on the floor.

After the smoke from gunshots finally faded, he lowered his arm and unfurled his gloved fist. Bullets fell from it and bounced off the tiles with loud clatters.

“That’s at least Third Grade protective gear...”

Jing Li’s expression changed. Something was wrong!
