Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 586: Lunch with the Girls
The sixth round of the tournament was finally over, and indeed, just as Sheva said, the women's section was like a crazy battlefield raging wildly, with everyone able to be on the top and everyone could also be down outside of the top ten if they were not careful.
Currently, the top two leaders are the players who no one expected to be this good. Those were Laysa and Dita Karenza, with 5 points out of 6 rounds. They managed to get the exact same record, getting four wins and two draws so far. Not only that, but they also had the advantage of having already met each other, so those two didn't have to go for each other's throats for the rest of the tournament.
However, the advantage was still so tight.
Behind them, Irene, Medina, and Anna were staring so closely, sitting in the second place with 4.5 points so far. Medina, particularly, had a big regret for losing against Dita Karenza, since the woman had a chance to leave everyone behind with 5.5 points. However, her chance was basically still wide open, especially since she had already faced the top-seeded player of the tournament.
Now, besides Irene, her opponent was basically her junior and those with a lower rating than her. As long as incidents like her game against Dita Karenza didn't happen again, Medina could regain her position before the tournament was over.
Her only disadvantage was one thing. She had already lost a game against Dita Karenza, so if somehow their final record was equal, Medina's position would be lower in the final standings, which would be a huge difference if they were the number one and two spots at that time.
"Now, the question is whether Dita Karenza could maintain this level of performance in the last three rounds of the game or not," Sheva said while eating his lunch, ignoring all the stares the girl gave him right now. "I don't know much about her, so I cannot deduce too much about her true level. If this is just a coincidence, then sooner or later, she will be exposed. But if this is her real ability, then you girls have no chance to get her, you know that, right?"
Anna pondered silently, while Claudia had a big pout on her smile. "I know that I underestimated her after the first round, but is she really that strong? I mean, one loss would be enough to shake off her momentum, right?" The little girl asked, still stubbornly believing that Dita Karenza's current form was just a coincidence. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Yeah, but who among you girls could shake off her momentum?" Sheva asked knowingly.
Out of anyone here, he knew best how it felt to be on form. After all, he was also in one right now, having been winning games left and right. Even if Dita Karenza only had 10 percent of his momentum, that would be enough for her to thrive in this tournament.
"Anyway, no need to think too much about someone we can control! Just get as many wins as possible!" Laysa, in a rare moment of wisdom, spoke. Then, her eyes turned to Anna, looking at her rival with a sharp grin of a predator. "There is a huge chance that we are going to play against each other soon. Are you ready for a rematch?"
Anna, who had been quiet since the beginning, also had the flame burning in her eyes. "Bring it on! No way I will let you stand at the top for that long!"
The rivalry built for so many years was about to reach its highest peak, and those two were so excited right now, ready to go for each other's throats. They might be friends outside, but once the girls sat at the table, they turned into cruel commanders, never showing any mercy toward their enemy.
Claudia, who was not involved at all, just stared at her big sister dreamily, admiring her even more. Seeing this, Sheva couldn't help but tease her.
"Rather than thinking about your sister, you should've thought about your opponent, eh? Two of the top players, Bathkuyag Munguntuul and Vo Thi Kim Phung, have just failed to win, while you are climbing so fast with two victories in a row. There is a high chance that your next opponent is either one of them, you know?"
Claudia choked for a moment, staring speechlessly at the boy. Anna's attention also turned to her sister, starting to gush over the little girl like an old, worried grandma.
"Sheva is right, you know? Have you already thought about it? What about we prepare it together?" She asked gently.
The little girl could feel her heart warm at the concern. However, her gaze hardened immediately as she shook her head, startling her big sister. "No, Big Sis. Let me do it alone." She spoke with the stubbornness only a young teen like her could muster.
"Um? Why?"
She took a deep breath, looking at her big sister's eyes with determination. "I really appreciate your help, Big Sis. I do. But if I want to stand alongside you, I need to be better than this, and the next round is the first step for me to do that. I want to see how far I can go against them."
In her mind, winning this tournament was no longer important. Even though Claudia still had a chance, what with her being a point away from the leader, she hadn't faced any other top players other than Medina, and honestly, the girl wasn't that confident she could continue this form. Right now, all she wanted to do was to push further, wanting to climb higher to get closer to her sister.
"Good God… You have become an adult right now, can stand on your own feet…" Anna's gaze softened while she ignored the incredulous snort from Laysa. "Just… Don't forget that no one can get stronger alone. Even the best player has his own team, so don't hesitate to ask for help, okay?"
This time, Claudia just nodded obediently. "Yes, Sister."
The atmosphere turned awkward for a moment, and silence followed for quite a long time. It was finally broken by Sheva, though, as he caught the time on the clock and said, "Well, I need to go first. I promise Nayaka for a little talk before the seventh round, so see you later, okay?"
