Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 550: An Absolute Dominance!
"Hello, hello, hello, everyone! Welcome back to the Black Rook Channel, and now, we are live, here, in Jakarta, to report the Asian Zone 3.3 Championship 2023! A tournament to fight for one ticket to the World Cup 2023 for both the men’s and women’s sections! Here I am, Septian Bagaskara, and together with me, Sarah, will accompany you for the rest of the week!"
Right after he greeted the viewers, the camera panned to his girlfriend, who waved her hand politely. However, unlike before, when her simps would scream whenever she popped, this time, the live streaming was overwhelmed by people complaining here.
Froggies: Finally! I thought no one would broadcast this live!
Rakuten18: I have been waiting for this for the last 45 minutes! Why the delay?!
Hilda99: Hey, hey! Don’t make it difficult for them! Maybe they have a reason?
Froggies: Tch! @Hilda99, you turn into their spy already! How shameless!
Bagas felt the corner of his lips twitching as he read the chat, moving so fast, showing so many people complaining about the delay. "We are so sorry for our lateness, but there was a little bit of a technical issue before we started the stream. Fortunately, everything is fine now, and I can assure you that from tomorrow on, we will start on time to deliver the tournament to you!"
The technical issue here was the fact that the organizer didn’t have a media booth for a live stream like this, even though Bagas had already requested it a month before. With no booth, there was no way he could conduct a stream peacefully, since every corner of the venue would be full of people already.
This really gave the organizer a headache. If it were any other streamer, they wouldn’t hesitate to kick his ass out of the building already. However, everyone here knew Bagas’s reputation as probably the best chess host in the country and Sheva’s best friend as well, and coupled with the capital backing him, there was no way they could afford to offend this boy.
In the end, after racking their brain, they had to be creative, turning a small warehouse next to the venue hall into a small room that could be used for Bagas to stream the tournament live. For a 30-minute work, the makeover was acceptable, as all the old and unnecessary things were gone already, and there was no dust gathered for as long as Bagas’s eyes wandered.
In the end, he didn’t want to make things difficult for the organizer and accepted this small room as his basecamp for the rest of the tournament.
"Okay, like the usual, we are not here alone." Sarah smiled, trying to change the topic quickly. "One expert is going to be here to guide us, and today, we have a special person here. A veteran figure in this country’s chess community, and also Sheva’s first-ever coach in his career. Let’s welcome, International Master Irfan Aditya!"
No excessive introduction here, as the man suddenly walked into the room with a huge smile on his face. However, this was probably the best introduction he had; the one who found Sheva’s potential and turned the boy into the player he is right now. In his mind, there was no higher honor than that.
"Well, I would like to make a small chat to fill the gap here, but unfortunately, we have a good game awaiting us." The man coughed lightly, gaining the two hosts’ attention. "I swear, if we didn’t go and look at it first, we would miss a lot, especially since the players there, Sheva and Nayaka, are playing like crazy."
Both Bagas and Sarah perked up, and without hesitation, the former operated the laptop in front of him quickly, turning the channel into the camera panned at Sheva on board 1 immediately. They were so stunned to see that the game was about to end, and then their eyes turned to the clock to confirm whether this was right or not.
"What is going on here?!" Bagas blinked in disbelief, having confirmed that the game on the screen was indeed a real one. "It has only been 45 minutes, and yet, more than half of the board is cleared already? They are entering the 34th move?! Why are they playing so fast?!" He turned to Master Irfan in confusion.
"Indeed, honestly, that is my initial question as well." The man chuckled. "Well, it is not unusual for Sheva to try to finish fast, but Nayaka seems to want to match his tempo, which is not a bad strategy, considering Nayaka’s style has a glimpse of Sheva in it. If it were any other players, they would’ve crumbled already, as it is not easy to imitate Sheva’s blitz style."
Bagas nodded silently in agreement, while Sarah noticed one crucial aspect in this game. "It is +6.8 already? Does that mean Sheva is going to win?" She asked, unsure.
"Yes, even with a single glance, it is clear that Sheva is winning." Master Irfan smiled. "When two players with similar style are fighting against each other, the winner will be determined by the one who is more proficient in that style, and it is clear that Nayaka still has a long way to go to reach the same height as Sheva’s right now."
Bagas could only shake his head in exasperation. However, he had to give a hat’s off to Nayaka, staring in admiration at the boy who was still fighting hard on the screen. Facing the juggernaut Sheva was, not a lot of people dared to take a risk like this, trying to match Sheva’s intensity. Usually, any player would go slowly for a conservative system, wanting to aim for a draw.
This was the first time someone indulged in Sheva’s strategy and even doubled it down, and even though the result was still a win for Sheva, at least the boy managed to make a huge impression here.
’He sure has a gut, huh?’ He mused inwardly.
There was no in-depth commentary here, as the game was about to end. Nayaka looked restless, still trying to create something as a counterplay. However, the moment Sheva managed to sneak his queen and rook into the seventh rank, the boy knew that everything was over for him, so he just stopped the clock and offered a handshake. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
He resigned, giving Sheva the first win of the tournament.
