Road to be the Best Chess Player in the World!-Chapter 432: Winning Again!
"Another win for Sheva!" Bagas exclaimed excitedly. However, his reaction was a little bit subdued here. Not only was the game too boring, but he had also gotten used to Sheva’s amazing achievement, so in his mind, this was just a normal result from his best friend. "After fighting for about three and a half hours, Sheva finally emerges as the winner, continuing his winning streak to 15 games in a row!"
Hilda99: Fuck yeah! No fucking doubt about it!
Froggies: 15?! Are you kidding me?! This should be a history, right?!
No one really knew what the longest winning streak in chess history was. However, they really didn’t mind about it. Everyone treated every win that Sheva got as a historical result, and if somehow, it was proven that the longest winning streak was longer than what the boy currently achieved, all the people in the broadcast room believed that it would be soon before the record was broken by the same boy they believed in.
It wasn’t a blind belief, of course. After all, most of the people on the Black Rook Channel had already been the boy’s fans from the beginning of his career, and they all knew what Sheva was capable of. If he were in such a hot form, it would be difficult for anyone to hold the boy back, even just for a game.
Meanwhile, back on the venue, Sheva just let out a deep, relieved sigh. While he was ecstatic, his reaction was not that exaggerated. Just like Bagas, the boy also felt like, with his current record, this win should be within his grasp since the beginning. It was just that the process to obtain it was quite troublesome, and he almost lost his patience several times in this game. Fortunately, Sheva could hold on without losing concentration, or the consequence would be severe.
"Good game." Aravindh offered a handshake with a genuine smile on his face. "It seems that Pragg is right, you are a force to be reckoned with."
"You know Pragg?" Sheva crooked one of his eyebrows slightly. Even though those two were from India, their age gap was quite big, and India itself didn’t lack talented players. So, it was quite strange for Pragg and Aravindh to know each other that well.
"Know him?" Aravindh snorted, as if he could read Sheva’s mind. "Of course, I know Pragg. We both come from Tamil Nadu, and before becoming a GM, we both dominated the entire state by ourselves. It is just a pity that my development got stuck for the last few years while Pragg continues to rise as if he doesn’t have any rookie wall, so you won’t hear my name getting associated with him." The young man explained.
"Ah... So, that’s the case..." Sheva nodded in understanding.
"Anyway, you really outmatched me in this game," Aravindh said wryly. "I try to waste my time a little bit more to make you lose patience, but who knows, it would be a double-edged sword that kills me? Still, this is the first time I play against a quick player like you, so I learn a lot today." The praise was so genuine that Sheva himself couldn’t help but smile awkwardly at Aravindh.
"Ah... It is nothing..."
They kept chatting for a while, mainly about the game they played earlier. Sheva had to give a hat’s off to his opponent, though, as once he exchanged ideas like this, the boy truly understood what made the system give him a high evaluation in his offensive game. The man’s mind was so devious and could always find any potential tactic in every position, and even though most of them were just smoke screens that wouldn’t do anything in a high-level game, against a lower-rated opponent, they alone would be enough to put psychological pressure to his advantage.
Aravindh was also the same. This exchange really opened his eyes to what kind of genius existed in the world. He had known a lot of prodigies back home, yet every time the man met one, he couldn’t help but always be in awe of them.
"Your rating really doesn’t do justice to your ability." Aravindh shook his head wryly while also rising from the chair, ready to go. "I pity all the GMs who will underestimate you before you climb higher. They would be in for a face slapping, I am sure of that."
"Haha, you are joking!" Sheva couldn’t help but chuckle, following the man’s action to get up from the chair. "Anyway, I truly apologize in advance for your trouble." He smiled knowingly.
"Um? What do you mean by that?" Aravindh frowned, slightly taken aback by this. Unfortunately, Sheva just shook his head while also maintaining his mysterious smile, sending a chill down Aravindh’s spine.
Honestly, the reason why Sheva was apologizing was quite simple. Aravindh had already been in two consecutive draws before the game today, and this result meant that the man was three games in a row without winning. That meant the negative effect of the Icy-Hot title would be turned on, and in the next round, Aravindh would suffer from the 5 percent decrease in his stats. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
If his next opponent were not a GM, this might not give him any problem. However, with the man being 4.5 points out of 6 games, there was no way he would get an easy opponent in the next round.
’Oh, well... It is not my problem.’ In the end, Sheva just shrugged it off. ’If he wants to step into a higher realm, he would need to deal with that negative effect eventually. Either give up the title, get a new one that could negate the old one, or raise the stats as high as possible to not get affected by it. If not, he would forever be mediocre in the eyes of the top-level players.’
Honestly, this was also one of the advantages of having a system inside his head. Sheva knew exactly what titles he had, and he could also activate and deactivate them all at his will. This was a game-changer, as if he had the same title as Aravindh, the boy could just deactivate it the moment he was in a bad streak, only to activate it once he entered a winning streak. This way, he could maximize all of the good effects while also throwing away the negative effects that could hinder his progress. This was exactly the same as what he did with the Endgame Master title, only using it when he was sure that his stamina could survive the aftereffect.
As he pondered, though, Sheva didn’t really notice that he was out of the venue already. It was only when someone called him that he got dragged from the dreamland forcefully.
"Oi, Sheva! What are you doing there?!"
