Rivers of the Night-Chapter 849: All She Could Do
Capítulo 849: All She Could Do
“Aren’t you going to do something?” Messo asked Ameridia.
The chaos was something that was impossible for Ameridia to ignore. Originally, Messo felt it was fine for Ameridia to hesitate since Ayame was someone that Theron had come with. And since Theron had clear connections to the Demon Corps, the fact that Ayame might as well wasn’t too much of a surprise.
The real issue, though, was that even after Theron started fighting with the new recruits, Ameridia still didn’t make an attempt to stop them. In fact, she had ordered the various lieutenants and captains to have their men stand down. Otherwise, such a battle wouldn’t be happening with so little interference from everyone else.
However, even with Messo’s question, Ameridia didn’t seem to have an answer. She was watching with a rare frown.
She could understand Theron’s actions, but Kenton and Bamby…
Their families were mortal enemies.
Theron had shrugged off the oddity too easily because he wasn’t aware, but it was honestly a surprise that Kenton and Bamby had even decided to join the same legion. Their families were truly that much like, well… fire and water. Well, in this case, fire and ice.
In truth, part of the reason that Ameridia hadn’t been paying much attention to Ayame was because she was a threat that Ameridia understood—at least until now. By comparison, Kenton and Bamby were anomalies.
Even if this wasn’t the case, just the fact that the two had decided to join when literally everyone else had chosen to leave… that was already cause for suspicion.
It couldn’t be understated just how intrusive a Bloodline Sampling test was. It didn’t just tell you where someone originated from, but the weaknesses of their bloodline down to the smallest, most insignificant details.
Lyra’s joining could be explained by blind love. Theron had managed to hide his origins somehow, shattering the stone and protecting both Lyra and Ayame from having to take the test.
But those two…
Even if Lyra and Ayame could be explained, they could not.
If not for the fact Theron had an Undefeatable Spirit, Kenton would have probably never taken the risk to put himself out there like he had. He would have preferred to stay low-key until this very moment.
However…
Hadn’t Kenton been traveling with Lyra before?
Theron had never asked Lyra about her relationship with Kenton. It was like it had completely slipped his mind.
But that couldn’t have been further from the truth. It was for the same reason Theron didn’t just attack Kenton again despite knowing the latter couldn’t possibly heal as quickly as he could. He was giving Kenton the chance to heal so he could defeat him at full power.
What Theron had been doing was very selfish, and he knew it. But he hadn’t wanted to defeat Kenton with his brain.
There was a primal desire in his body to destroy Kenton at his best for the crime of pissing him off.
Ameridia had noticed Kenton making a move toward the vortex as well, but she had been curious about what he could possibly be doing, so she had done nothing. Plus… she knew for a fact that Theron would definitely act.
Now that he had, Kenton’s relationship with Bamby had also been revealed, but Ameridia was still no closer to an answer.
“What information did you find on Lyra?”
Messo remained silent for a moment, arranging her thoughts.
“She was born as an illegitimate child. The power struggle in the Umbra Clan caused her to be exiled to the Nightingale Sect, where she was quite weak for a long while. It is presumed that the Umbra used methods of the Resso Clan to suppress her talent.
“When those suppression methods were undone, her strength exploded and she quickly made it to Quasi King. The exact path is obscured and unclear.
“However, it seems that the Resso Clan came to collect debts. The Patriarch of the Umbra broke into the King Realm but was heavily injured after a battle with Theron, leaving them in an odd position.
“There also seems to be news that the Nightingale Clan has risen up again, and it seems that their new Matriarch has formed a sort of alliance with the Resso Clan. This new Matriarch is also the former Matriarch of the Nightingale Sect.
“It is presumed that Lyra used her previous relationship with the Nightingale Sect as a Core Disciple to soften relations, and part of that deal involved joining our legion together.
“As for what purpose that might have, I still need more time.”
Ameridia frowned but didn’t complain. The fact that Messo had gathered so much information in just half a day was enough to prove how capable she was. If she had another day or two, maybe she would unearth the truth of things.
Unfortunately… time wasn’t on anyone’s side… a truth that seemed to hold true even for Messo, ironically enough.
This was the best that Ameridia could do for Theron, though. The Demon Corps were an enemy of the Resistance Army. She could never take a public stance in helping or defending them.
For now, she could only use the pretext of allowing the rookies to train amongst themselves to give him a bit of breathing room.
For some reason, despite knowing Ayame was her enemy…
She still chose to side with Theron.
What sort of spell did that boy hold?
And could he hold on? 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
…
Billowing black fog jetted out from Theron’s body as though to disperse the power and impact of Bamby’s sudden attack, the ground shattering in large, controlled segments.
He roared.
The land beneath Theron’s feet remained stable.
The land beneath Kenton’s feet, however…
Crack.
Their blades slipped past one another, and Kenton lost his balance.
Kenton thought he was the more powerful party and that Theron could only win by catching him off guard. He believed that there were only so many ways that Theron could possibly do this, that he would certainly be ready this time.
He was wrong.
Theron’s blade slipped past his guard, and Kenton hurried in an attempt to dodge.
It saved his head, but not his arm.
Blood spurted in an arc through the air.
Theron had chosen selfishly already. Because of him, this was happening to Ayame.
He wouldn’t allow himself to make the selfish choice again.
He didn’t need to win with raw power.
He would crush these two with his battle tactics.
“Die.”
