Rising up from a Nobleman to Intergalactic Warlord!!-Chapter 226
Gazing up at the wreckage of their vessel, Zastin and the crew realized just how close they had been to death’s door. Less than two thousand feet up, they would have perished a few seconds from now without my intervention. Profusely thanking me for saving them, they inquired if there was any way they could repay this debt.
“Do any of you hold sway with Lala? If so, please see if you can get Lala to change her mind about pursuing me.”, I requested, closing the portal behind me. “Lala is a very rambunctious woman; I fear my patience will be quickly exhausted by her.”
“Come now, the young lass is not that big of a troublemaker.”, Targin argued, immediately recalling several of her recent shenanigans. “Okay… Maybe the princess is a bit of a troublemaker, but everything she does comes from a good place. Princess Lala is always trying to help those in need; it is just her approach to their problems that causes trouble. If the lass put a bit more forethought and planning into things, her inventions could change lives. A man like you could help rein in her chaotic nature to make that happen.”
“Could you at least consider giving her a chance?”, Aldos pleaded. Since you presented Princess Lala with that challenge, she has been working hard to meet the challenge. The whole way here, Princess Lala told us how excited she was to show you her finished work.”
“Let her at least show you her labor of love.”, Zastin requested, clasping his hands together as he begged.
“Fine… I suppose I can give her a few minutes of my time today.”, I relented, restarting time. ‘Interrogation, quick explanation, see Lala’s invention, then return to our vacation rental. That is my plan, everything else be damned!’
As the world around us began moving once again, we watched the wrecked ships slam into the ground. Striking the ground with the force of an asteroid, a chemical chain reaction occurred, resulting in a powerful explosion that rocked Terminus to its core. Making it back to the safe zone just as large chunks of debris began falling all around, I could hear my men excitedly shouting below us.
“What in the… How long have you guys been standing there?”, Anakin questioned, vigorously rubbing his tired eyes. “None of you were here a second ago… At least I do not think you were. Damn… Maybe my mind is beginning to fail me from lack of sleep and overexertion. I cannot wait to sleep in my own bed with Padme again…”
Noticing him start to sway, I stepped forward to catch him as his eyes abruptly closed. Putting him under with sleep magic, several of his men stepped forward to haul him back to HQ. Accepting their assistance, the troopers gingerly picked Anakin up and carried him down to ground level.
“Did something happen to Anakin!?”, Obi-Wan gasped, rushing over to them.
“No sir, he just passed out from exhaustion. We are taking him back to HQ for a much-needed rest.”, one of the troopers answered. “Lord Stark and a group of Devilukeans are up on the wall.”
Wasting no time, Gid and company rushed up the sketchy stairwell to find us. Rounding the corner, Sephie and the girls went wide-eyed as they saw Zastin and several crew members standing beside me. Rushing forward, the trio of sisters dove at their beloved bodyguard with teary eyes.
“Zastin, you idiot!”, Nana sobbed, pounding her fists against his chest. “We… We thought you were dead! How did you make it off the ship without an escape pod?”
“We are alive because of Lord Stark’s intervention. He rescued us from the plummeting wreckage a few moments before impact.”, Targin spoke on his behalf, as Lala and Momo were crushing him to death.
“I am sorry… Mercy… Please…”, Zastin managed to wheeze out.
Realizing they were hurting the knight, Lala and Momo immediately let go of him. Staggering backward, Zastin gasped for air as he caught himself on the railing. Leaving him be, the women wiped their tears away before turning to speak with me.
“So… You are the infamous Victor von Stark our sister has been talking nonstop about.”, Momo spoke, looking me over with her eyes. ‘Oh my… He is even better looking up close!’
“That I am.”, I acknowledged, before noticing all three of their tails were twitching with excitement. ‘Oh no… This is not good. How did I go from one problem to three?! I have never even met Momo and Nana before now!’
“Hehe, what I would not give to be held in those big arms!”, Nana spoke, almost drooling on herself. ‘My name is Nana Astar Deviluke; it is a pleasure to meet you, Lord Stark!’
A bit surprised by how forward Nana was being, I maintained a stone-faced expression, while Gid and Obi-Wan absolutely lost it. Not wanting to upset her, the men turned away and nearly collapsed to the ground from side-splitting laughter. Confused by their laughter, Nana asked if she had said something funny.
“Dear… You spoke your thoughts and thought what you wanted to say again.”, Sephie giggled, giving her daughter an approving smile. ‘It would appear Gid’s love for muscles has rubbed off on Nana in an unexpected way.’
Opening and closing her mouth like a fish, Nana’s face turned bright red as steam erupted from her ears. Blaming me for this mess, the third princess whipped her around and smacked my arm. Instead of being tossed into the air, like people normally would, the blow shattered every bone in her hand. Falling to the ground in pain, Nana began cursing like a sailor as she cradled her wounded hand.
“That was a boneheaded decision.”, I scolded her, kneeling beside her to mend her hand. “I am not as flimsy as other people are. Now that you know, try not to do that again.”
“Thank you…”, Nana meekly said, looking up at me. ‘Oh god… he is the full package!! I… I suppose I can do my parents the courtesy of getting married to him. Though I am curious, will his… his thing even fit in me?’
Pondering the question for a second, Nana covered her face in shame for thinking about it. Rising to her feet, she promptly moved behind Lala and Momo as she tried to compose herself.
“Victor!! I finished the invention you asked me to build!!”, Lala announced, jumping up and down with excitement. “Do you have a moment for me to show you?”
“I do.”, I agreed, much to the relief of the crew, her parents, and Zastin.
As she reached into her pocket to find her D-Dial, a horrified expression suddenly appeared on her face. Recalling it had been lost during the crash, her shoulders drooped with utter disappointment.
“I… I forgot; it got lost during the crash. Could I maybe show you some other time, Victor?”, Lala asked, hanging her head in disappointment. “Sorry for wasting your time…”
“No, I have a better idea.”, I replied, taking pity on her. “How about I open a portal back to your home so you can grab a spare?”
Lifting her head to see if I was joking, Lala’s face brightened as she realized I was not. Jumping onto me, the princess enthusiastically wrapped her arms around my neck and began giggling with joy.
“Thank you so much, Victor!!”, Lala shouted, nuzzling her head under my chin. “I promise to be quick about it!”
Opening the portal, Lala dropped down and immediately jumped through. Taking off running, she started to hum a song as she disappeared inside the palace.
“Thank you, Victor.”, Sephie spoke, giving me a warm smile. “Whatever you may think of Lala, her affections for you are genuine and pure. You are all she talks about nowadays.”
“I would also like to thank Commander Lawson and you for saving my family today.”, Gid said, holding Sephie’s hand tightly. “If you had not been here… I… I would have almost certainly lost them.”
“While we wait for Princess Lala to return, there is something I would like to ask you, Victor. What exactly are those grubs the Devilukeans are holding?”, Obi-Wan spoke, having patiently waited for a chance to ask. “Since you rescued them from the wreckage, I assume you also went aboard the bioship.”
Turning their attention to what the crew were holding, Sephie’s face contorted in terror as she immediately assumed they were Tyranid eggs. Hiding behind her husband, Momo and Nana bolted behind her, begging us to just kill them already. Assuring everyone they posed no threat to anyone here, I quickly cleared up their misconception. Giving them the same explanation I gave the crew earlier, Nana curiously poked her head out while studying them.
“It is hard to believe such tiny creatures were controlling the Hive fleet…”, Gid remarked as Obi-Wan and he approached to have a better look.
“Remarkable…”, Obi-Wan muttered, attempting to brute force his way into one of their minds. “Though they appear fragile, their psychic defenses are far greater than even Grandmaster Yoda. How do you intend to interrogate them, Victor?”
Asking the crew to gingerly place the mini cerebrates down, they did as I requested before taking several steps back. Spinning Stormbreaker loosely in my hands, I slowly approached them with a murderous aura.
“You have consumed more than enough people to understand what we are saying perfectly. I recommend speaking to us before I start smashing you one after the other.”, I said, raising my weapon. “This weapon possesses immense cosmic power. You know exactly what that means…”
As I was about to bring the hammer down upon them, they collectively screamed at me to stop just inches before contact. Startled by the unknown voice in their heads, several people squealed with fright.
“Please, no more pain.”, they pleaded, in perfect sync. “Do you serve the scary metal man?”
“Scary metal man?”, I questioned.
Transmitting a visual image of the entity in question, my face contorted in fury as I saw the Silent King’s mug. Getting a sinking feeling in my stomach, I answered truthfully and said the Necrons were no allies of ours. Making it abundantly clear we were enemies, they seemed to relax a bit after hearing that.
“What exactly is your connection to the Silent King?”, I questioned, already formulating a hypothesis in my head. “Is he somehow connected to the mutated insectoids you attacked us with?” freeweɓnøvel~com
“He experimented on us. Mutilated us. Tortured us.”, they answered, agony, rage, and venom coursing through each word. “We want him to suffer as we did! Because his metal body cannot feel pain, we will take away everything he desires!
Realizing the Tyranids were here for revenge, it made sense now why they were devouring all the biomass. The Necrons needed biomass to undo the accursed biotransference the C’tan used on them. While I felt some pity for the Tyranids, as the Necrons were a cruel race, it did not justify the lives they had taken.
“Let me guess… The Silent King sought to use your evolutionary abilities to create bodies for his people, right?”, I questioned. I had planned to leave the Necrons in peace, as long as they left the Imperium alone. The Silent King’s actions have forced my hand; every single one of them must be eradicated for the safety of this region of space.’
“Yes, but we could not produce a satisfactory result for him.”, they acknowledged.
“If we agree to assist you in eradicating the Silent King and his people, would the Cerebrate consider ceasing their invasions of our space?”, I pressed them.
Remaining silent for a few moments, the mini cerebrates asked me for proof that I was not allied with the Silent King. Pointing out that some of our weapons were like the Necrons, their leader was understandably wary about trusting me. Letting thousands of Necron heads fall out of my inventory, I let the sheer volume speak for me.
“What grudge do you harbor against the Silent King?”, they questioned.
“My ancestral homeland bleeds because of their disgusting actions. Billions toil away as their slave labor, entire star systems have been razed to the ground, and they use us as guinea pigs like you once were.”, I growled, crushing a pile of heads beneath my feet. “I have seen firsthand the pain they have wrought…”
Taking a second to process my answer, their cerebrate agreed to a ceasefire. Inquiring how I intended to proceed, I recommended bringing the Silent King and most of his followers to the Orpheus Sector. Pointing to the area I was referring to on a star chart, it seemed like the opportune place to finish them.
“You already have a Hive Fleet heading to this region. All civilians have already been evacuated, so there will be no innocent bystanders to worry about.”, I spoke. “I will drag their planets there and disable their defenses for you. Once you have sated your thirst for revenge, my people will obliterate the planets. We can execute this plan in two to three weeks.”
“Very well, we will await you there.”, they replied, before shriveling up and dying.
Overwhelmed by everything they had just learned, a mixture of emotions ran through everyone’s minds. As they tried to process everything, Lala returned with her D-Dial, ready to show me her invention.
