Chapter 39 - Zephiron,The Abyss Devourer (II)
Azvoid's grin faltered as he took in the twisted hellscape that now stained his mental space. The ground was nothing but cracked obsidian, seeping with pools of molten darkness. The sky above churned like a storm of blood and shadow, and the air itself seemed to be suffocating, clawing at his throat with unseen hands.
"Amusing, isn't it?" Zephiron's voice slithered around him, crawling into his ears like the cold touch of death itself. "The power to corrupt even your own sanctuary... with just a whisper."
Azvoid's fists clenched, but he kept his expression steady. The bastard was clearly trying to mess with him. Yet the way Noctis's scales bristled told him this wasn't just an idle threat.
"Shouldn't you be sulking in your little prison?" Azvoid snapped. "Or has the boredom finally driven you insane?"
"Ah, such arrogance. But I do enjoy that sharp tongue of yours," Zephiron replied, his voice calm and dripping with cruelty. "Sadly, this isn't just some idle visit. You see, my bonds... are weakening."
Noctis's eyes narrowed to slits. "Impossible. The seal that binds you should be unbreakable."
"Unbreakable? Perhaps. But not invincible. The passage of time and the foolish meddling of mortal cultists have chipped away at my cage," Zephiron sneered. "And soon, I shall be free."

Azvoid's smirk twisted into something colder. "You're bluffing. If you were really breaking free, you wouldn't be wasting your time taunting me."
Zephiron laughed, the sound a grating, thunderous roar that felt like it would tear Azvoid's mind apart. "Oh, you sweet, ignorant fool. This is merely a warning. A demonstration of the inevitable. I will devour everything, and when I emerge from my prison, this world shall tremble beneath my wrath."
"So what's this? An intimidation attempt? Because honestly, it's kinda lame." Azvoid's voice was mocking, but his mind raced with possibilities.
Zephiron's shadowy form twisted into something monstrous, eyes flaring with a predatory hunger. "You amuse me, child. That arrogance of yours will be the first thing I savor when I emerge."
"Keep dreaming, lizard breath. When you do get out, I'll make sure it's just to put you back in the dirt where you belong."
Zephiron's amusement darkened, his eyes flickering like dying stars. "So full of bravado. But remember, child, the clock is ticking. And when I am free, not even that pitiful pet of yours will be able to protect you."
"Better pets than prison walls, I'd say."
Noctis let out a low growl. "Zephiron, you are overstepping your bounds. The young master's growth will surpass anything you can imagine."
"Oh? Then I shall eagerly await the day he proves himself worthy of standing before me."
The shadows recoiled, pulling away from Azvoid's mental space with the sensation of ice-cold fangs scraping against his soul.
"Enjoy your last days of freedom, Azvoid Larkson. For they shall be fleeting."
And with a final, hollow laugh, the presence of Zephiron vanished, leaving behind only the frigid memory of terror.
Azvoid's eyes snapped open, his body drenched in sweat. The weight of the encounter clung to him like frostbite, his breath shallow.
"That... was new." His voice was forced, his usual sarcasm struggling against the lingering dread.
"You felt it, didn't you?" Noctis rumbled, his voice raw with concern. "Zephiron's presence has grown stronger. His seal... it is indeed weakening."
Azvoid's fingers dug into his palms. "How long do we have?"
"If he can project his consciousness like that... I'd say months, at most. Maybe even less, if those damned cultists keep tampering with the seal."
Azvoid's gaze hardened, his obsidian eyes smoldering with determination. "Then I don't have time to waste."
"Indeed. We must hasten your growth, young master," Noctis agreed, his tone serious and urgent. "And prepare you for the inevitable."
Azvoid nodded, his mind already spinning with plans. The world might not know what was coming, but he'd make sure he was ready when it did.
Because the next time he faced Zephiron, it wouldn't be in the safety of his mind. And he damn well wouldn't be caught unprepared.
