Chapter 426: Hard Training

A barren planet of dark grey lay rotating by its lonesome in the vast expanse of space, Venasar.

Besides it, lay two higher beings, Ezra and Kovar.

As planned, both men had arrived early to begin the

training session.

"You’re punctual. Good" Kovar remarks.

Stepping onto the planet’s soil, Kovar gets right into business and takes out his metal staff.

"There is little time before the next expedition, so I won’t be babysitting you"

Ezra nods in response, showing a determined expression.

"You have massive reserves of energy, but your control is too poor, so-"

Stomping his staff on the ground, pieces of black grey rock covered in layers of ice thanks to the extremely cold atmosphere rose into the air, each either the size of a boulder or just slightly bigger than a pebble.

"We’ll start with training your energy output. As your energy isn’t infinite, it is paramount that you learn to regulate your energy depending on the target, or you will end up needlessly wasting energy and tiring yourself out even when fighting small fries"

Kovar then points his index finger towards the floating rocks behind Ezra.

"Now, destroy both of these rocks with your energy"

Making a fist, he lets off a beam of energy that engulfs the boulder, obliterating it before following up with the same move to destroy the pebble.

"Tch, tch, tch" Kovar clicks his tongue, shaking his head. "As I thought, your control skills are basically non-existent"

"For now, you will train to use only the appropriate amount of energy to pierce the rocks"

"Alright" Ezra nods, getting into a stance.

To this, Kovar stomps his staff on the floor once more, raising more rocks for him to use as practice.

As always, Ezra takes a deep breath, before getting straight into action.

Like this, for the next nine hours, beams of light kept flashing atop the surface of Venasar as Ezra went at the rocks relentlessly.

Without doubt, his reckless attacks had him receive multiple scoldings from Kovar as he instructed him on adjusting it.

Thanks to his large reserves, controlling his energy output was much harder for him than others, specifically the part where he had to let out energy at very low output.

Therefore, shattering the pebble with just the right amount of energy was the hardest part of the training for him.

After nine hours of straining his body, Ezra was heaving heavy breaths as sweat fell down his face in droplets.

He had to forcefully adjust his energy usage in order to withhold large amounts of energy to only let very little out or let moderate attacks.

As Ezra motioned to sit, Kovar clapped.

"It’s far from decent, but you’re much better than you were nine hours ago"

Exhausted, Ezra simply nods.

"Today’s training ends here, we continue same time tomorrow"

"Haaa...Haaa...understood..." replies Ezra in between heavy breaths.

With that, Kovar leaves, with Ezra leaving the planet soon after to lay in the sovereign universe.

Days go by with Ezra repeatedly doing the same drill as he learns to control his energy output at will.

Furthermore, as the date of the expedition drew closer, the length of the training sessions grew longer.

From the nine hours of the first day, they elongated it to twelve hours the next and fourteen on the third-a schedule that would only be possible like them that didn’t need much sleep or rest to function.

Additionally, Kovar increased the dynamics of the training the more Ezra improved.

He diversified the sizes of each rock to increase the difficulty, after that, he began placing rocks of different sizes in front of one another, going onto target practice where unlike before, Ezra was to do the exercise while the rocks were constantly moving.

Lastly, Kovar took an even more active approach by compressing the rocks into different shapes before launching them towards Ezra.

On this, some of the projectiles were imbued with energy while some were not.

To respond to such attacks, Ezra was to use only close combat techniques to strike the approaching projectiles as an effort to stimulate faster growth.

Because, what faster way to learn than through pain?

Not to mention, Ezra had a healing ability so potent it bordered on regeneration, so Kovar had even less reasons to worry.

As one expected, facing such difficult scenarios, Ezra was forced to improve himself at a fast pace.

The sharp projectiles were particularly nasty as Ezra had to utilize the right amount of energy needed to either break the sharp projectiles or at least deflect them.

Failure to do so cost him a good deal of pain as they tore into his body or exploded right in his face, disorienting him.

This blocked his view allowing the follow up projectile to catch him off guard, tearing his skin.

In this way, Ezra learned to adjust his energy output not just for long range attacks but also for close combat purposes, such as body amplification and energy reinforcement.

Also, his energy sensitivity also improved as he was forced to guess which one of the sharp projectiles contained energy as only those one’s could hurt him.

When Ezra became able to distinguish the projectiles imbued with energy, Kovar switched things up by placing energy into every projectile, but in differing quantities, making it much harder.

Adding to this, Kovar began layering the tips of some of the projectiles with sheens of metal, increasing the difficulty again.

Moreover, with each mistake, Kovar would scold Ezra, correcting him while also pointing out the obvious stupidity in his actions.

"Why did you stop moving? Are you trying to pose as a doll on the battlefield?"

"Trying to brute force your way through like that is a fool’s move, think and act Ezra, think and act!"

"Have you forgotten how to do a simple jump? When did you become relatives with Ents?"

"Look at how many times you’ve been hit. On the battlefield, you would have died twice by now, always keep your eyes peeled"

"Look at you swaying like jelly, do you intend to show off your dancing skills to the opponent?"

Sure enough, facing such an ordeal, Ezra cursed many times during the training to the point where it was becoming a habit, but in contrast, he never actually complained. frёeωebɳovel.com

Although he did let out his frustrations with the increasing difficulty in exasperation, with words such as "Really?!", "Come on!" or just loudly groaning for the most part.

As they continued the training, Ezra was eventually permitted to use Skyfall in training.

Naturally, Kovar increased the difficulty once again.

For one, the amount of energy imbued into the projectiles was increased as a whole.

Following which Kovar increased the sections of metal layered on it while reducing the size to turn Skyfall’s large frame to a disadvantage.

Lastly, he cloaked the projectiles in the same wavelength of energy, making it almost impossible for Ezra to distinguish the projectiles at all, before then increasing the speed behind them.

To this, Ezra sighs in exasperation, staring Kovar straight in the eye.

"Really?"

In response, Kovar raised a brow. "Weren’t you the one that agreed to training?"

To this, Ezra grit his teeth hard before letting off a deep breath to calm himself.

He clenched his grip around Skyfall before getting into a fighting stance.

Kovars makes a slight, inexplicable nod, before resuming the training.

With a good portion of metal projectiles and without a way to distinguish them, Ezra couldn’t afford to let his guard down for even a moment.

Unfortunately, that was easier said than done when trying to defend against a hailstorm of metal projectiles smaller than one’s palm but almost faster than one’s eye could follow.

Eventually, Ezra began utilizing Skyfall in its Twin Swords form as that was many times more efficient against the small projectiles especially in a place where there was no wind.

To defend against it, Ezra had to use body amplification to amplify his body capabilities in tandem with energy reinforcement to shield himself from the projectiles all while defending himself from the attack.

But he couldn’t just pump exorbitant amounts of energy into the energy reinforcement, else he would inevitably run out of energy.

No matter how big his energy reserves, Ezra had ways to go before being able to compete with Kovar.

Therefore, if he ignorantly infused energy into reinforcing himself, it would only result in him running out of energy whilst Kovar still had plenty left.

As for using his elemental affinities, Kovar himself has only been using basic energy manipulation for all his attacks till now as a method to teach Ezra.

It was to form an impression on Ezra showcasing what he could eventually do having mastered energy control.

Moreover, since Kovar currently had more energy than he did, Ezra couldn’t make any excuse for why he wouldn’t be able to achieve the same thing.

Overall, beyond the disgruntling nature of the training, Kovar advice helped supplement Ezra’s shortcomings.

In no time, the expedition day arrived.
