Chapter 140: Settling the score

As soon as the bell’s crystalline echo faded, the arena erupted into chaos. Rowan wasted no time. With a savage grin, he thrust both hands forward, summoning a massive vortex of flames that roared across the arena floor.

The fire twisted and spiraled, growing in intensity as it surged toward Davi’s team, the heat so intense that it distorted the air and made the protective runes beneath flare in response.

"So fucking annoying," Alexia muttered, stepping forward with fluid grace. Her eyes narrowed in concentration as she drew her blade

The woman faced the fire as a challenge to face, and smiled confidently. Then, with a single, precise movement that spoke of countless hours of training, she sliced through the air, using her <air blade>.

The fire vortex split cleanly in two, the flames parting around her blade as if it had cut through water rather than scorching heat. The divided inferno crashed harmlessly to either side of Davi’s team, dissipating against the arena’s protective barriers in a spectacular display of light and sound that drew gasps from the audience.

Alexia flicked her sword, dispersing the residual heat with a contemptuous gesture. "Is that really the best you can do?" she called out, her voice carrying across the arena.

But Rowan wasn’t listening. He had already changed targets, darting across the arena floor with supernatural speed, his focus entirely on one person, his sister, Ember.

"I’ve been waiting for this," Rowan snarled, flames dancing around his fingertips as he closed in on Ember

Ember stood her ground, her own hands wreathed in flames as she manipulated the fire, to create an shield.

"So have I, brother," she replied, her voice steady despite the exertion. "This time, I will defeat you, because I don’t fear you anymore"

Davi, seeing the siblings engage, felt a momentary urge to intervene. He didn’t want to see his beloved Ember getting hurt, and Rowan’s raw power was not to be underestimated. He took half a step toward them before catching himself.

Ember had been clear that this was her battle. She had prepared for this confrontation, trained specifically to defeat her brother’s.

With a reluctant nod that Ember didn’t see, too focused on her brother’s relentless assault, Davi turned his attention back to the broader battlefield.

Sophia was smiling at him.

"Trust her," Alexia said quietly, appearing at Davi’s side. "She needs to win this battle by herself."

"I know," Davi sighed, but he had no time to worry about the others, an arrow suddenly whistled through the air, heading straight for his head.

He dodged at the last second, barely avoiding it. As expected, Sophia had already started going for the attack. And he soon noticed that the blond woman was trying to force him, Lara, and Alexia to be far apart from each other.

Probably, she wanted to forcefully create a situation, in which Rile could slow down one of them, weakening their team.

But she didn’t need to go that far this time, because Lara already wanted to engage in her plan. With explosive speed, she launched forward and struck Rile with a devastating kick, sending him flying toward the far left corner of the arena.

Davi didn’t need to look to know what was coming next. Lara was already chasing him down with the ferocity of a beast. He was relieved to not be her opponent in this combat.

In one instance, she had reached her target, and was getting ready to attack him again.

"Would you allow me the honor of a duel?" she asked with a happy smile,

Rile immediately rolled to the side, just barely avoiding the strike, and rose to his feet with a tired smile.

"Honestly, I was hoping for an easier opponent," he muttered, drawing his sword in one swift motion. "But it’s not like I have much of a choice. Come at me with everything."

He might’ve been lazy by nature, but he took orders seriously, especially from Sophia, and he would not fail. His mission was simple: stall Lara for as long as possible.

But Lara... she wasn’t the type to be stalled easily.

Her next move came without hesitation, a wide, horizontal slash aimed at his ribs. Rile blocked, but the impact rattled through his arms like a hammer.

She didn’t stop there. Her body twisted, bringing her leg up in a spinning kick. He ducked, the wind from her boot brushing the top of his head.

"You’re stronger than I expected," he admitted, taking a few steps back to regain some space. "But do you have the stamina for a long dance?"

Lara’s eyes sparkled with a fierce grin.

"You talk too much." She advanced to another attack. "If I have enough stamina or not, I will find a way to fight."

"Yeah, I think so..." He answered with a tired sight.

She dashed again, her strikes faster now, sharper. Rile parried, barely keeping up, each clash of steel pushing him further back. He could already feel his breathing tightening. She was relentless.

But somehow, he always managed to defend at the last second. And even though it looked like he was being absolutely overwhelmed by her relentless barrage of attacks, he hadn’t been injured at all. In fact, he had even managed to land a small cut on her leg.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the arena, an explosion echoed as powerful flames clashed, creating a massive whirlwind of fire.

Ember and Rowan didn’t seem the least bit interested in prolonging their fight any further, both of them were attacking with everything they had.

But the redhead realized she clearly wouldn’t stand a chance if she fought him normally. In the end, Rowan’s class was simply more powerful.

That’s why she had to be aggressive and push forward.

The girl sighed and gripped the hilt of her sword. Thanks to Morrigan, the blade was sharper than ever.

Then she drew her weapon.

"What’s this? A mage using a sword? You’re pathetic, sister," Rowan sneered.

Ember didn’t bother replying with words, she would prove him wrong by defeating him in that battle.
