Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 765. Fusing Spirit Beasts
After picking up the intel from the mission center, Amon stopped by Wi Zhuang’s place to collect the stocked spirit plants from Jin Cheng’s farms at Mellow Depraved Town. A Flesh Alterer apparently used a lot of spirit plants, as Pill Masters did. These plants helped Dao Su with his experiment.
Aside from that, he also visited the city’s market to purchase a captured spirit beast. In the lower realm’s market, one could purchase even a Mid Mythical Beast if one had enough wealth and status. Amon bought one such beast.
The spirit beast he purchased was the Sky Ray. It was a large ray that could fly. It had a pair of long but thin tentacles at its head. These tentacles could generate enough electricity to produce a lightning strike.
Amon purchased the Sky Ray for the same reason as the one-week delay before departing for the Northwest border.
He brought the Sky Ray to an empty mansion he had purchased in the past after becoming an Enforcer. He had cleaned out the inside of the mansion to serve as a warehouse or hiding place. At the moment, the place served as a temporary workshop for one of the captives he had saved from Hai Di.
"A good specimen," Dao Su remarked after inspecting the Sky Ray inside the confinement cage. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Are you sure you can work with this?" Amon asked.
"Of course. I need to warn you, though. The alteration you requested of me is approximately a half-body adjustment. The alteration will affect its mentality. Spirit beasts don’t possess as much mental resistance, especially one without self-awareness, as humans. Although your Great Sun Hawk appeared to have intelligence, it could not be compared to the fox lady. If you do this to her, she will most likely go insane, if she doesn’t die from mental shock. The Great Sun Hawk, however, has a better success chance."
"Do it. The Great Sun Hawk is too weak to be my companion in its current state. If the alteration fails, I will tame a new spirit beast to replace it."
Dao Su chortled. "You toss away minions who are no longer useful without batting an eye. I wonder what you will do to a partner who doesn’t benefit you anymore."
"Then let that be a reminder for you not to lose your worth," Amon responded.
Dao Su shook his head. "Tch. That was meant as a critique, but I see you either lack self-reflection or are too damn proud to notice it. Anyway, I will do my best. Bring out the hawk. Make sure it is fully drugged. I don’t want to get burned by it during the process."
Amon put his hand on a raised platform Dao Su had prepared. The Great Sun Hawk materialized there. It was unconscious. Amon had already used the Endless Slumber Poison to put it into a deep sleep.
"What about this Sky Ray?" Amon asked.
"The Great Sun Hawk will be the recipient, so we need it alive. As for the Sky Ray, I only need its parts. However, the fresher the part, the better. It is best if we extract the parts while the host is alive and transplant them immediately into the recipient."
"In other words, to get the best outcome is to keep both subjects alive during the process."
"You are correct, and I have my best equipment here. It can keep the Sky Ray alive while constantly pumping tranquilizer into its system. That said, what did you use on this Great Sun Hawk? I’ve analyzed its condition. It appears to be in an induced coma."
"Here." Amon gave Dao Su three small pills.
"Feed those to the Sky Ray. They will put it in the same condition as the Great Sun Hawk."
"May I keep one to analyze it?"
"Don’t waste your time. You are not a pill master. Keep your practice within your specialization."
Dao Su shrugged. Amon didn’t say no, so he would test if two pills were enough to put the Sky Ray into a coma. If they did, then he would keep the last one.
"Don’t spend more than a week. I must leave this city soon," Amon told him.
"Who do you think you are talking to? Three days are enough for me to complete this job. That said, please stay nearby during the process. We cannot be sure if the Great Sun Hawk won’t wake up during the process. If it does, I need you to restrain it using your mental link."
Amon nodded. This was why he used this empty mansion for the process. Otherwise, he would let Dao Su work from inside his black space ring. If the Great Sun Hawk regained consciousness in the middle of the process, it might instinctively will itself out of the ring. This could interrupt or even jeopardize the process. Hence, he told Dao Su to perform the procedure outside the black space ring’s dimension.
The inside of the black space ring was the safest place for Amon to keep both Dao Su and Zee Whang. He had enlarged the rooms they were in so they could better set up their laboratory. He also procured the materials they requested so they could begin working on whatever they wished.
Zee Whang remained inside the black space ring. His asocial nature made the isolated space ideal for him. He could research to his heart’s content without getting bothered by others.
Until Amon had a safe place for the two, he told them to bear with this arrangement. The two didn’t seem to mind. They were more interested in freely conducting their research than having personal freedom.
Amon remained in the room while Dao Su worked. He spent his time cultivating while observing Dao Su’s work. From the observation, he could say Dao Su was what his old world called a mad scientist. He surgically cut pieces of the Sky Ray and transplanted it onto the Great Sun Hawk. The process was aided by various chemical liquids he brewed from the spirit plants Amon provided him.
Not all the parts could be transplanted. Amon saw him throw away many parts after he displayed a frustrated expression. It seemed his work process was more akin to an experiment than an already-tested method. Then again, this was probably because it was the first time he worked with these two spirit beasts.
He also cut and threw away some of the Great Sun Hawk’s body parts. The process was not only adding the Sky Ray parts but also an alteration, so some of the original parts were removed.
While Amon paid attention to the procedure, he was sure he couldn’t replicate what Dao Su did. It was an expertise that took many decades to hone.

Contrary to what Dao Su claimed, the procedure took five days instead of three. The specimen turned out to be more difficult than he thought, but this was due to the specimen’s quality. He learned that the Great Sun Hawk’s body and its internal organs were in much better condition than most spirit beasts he dissected. This was thanks to the Great Sun Hawk’s regular consumption of the Primordial Blue Lotus’ nectar and water mixed with the Spring of Life.
The enhanced quality of the body drove Dao Su to try to be as perfect as possible in his craft. This caused the procedure to become longer than it could have.
During those five days, Amon’s infernal cultivation received advancement. He was now a Peak Malicious Stage cultivator.
Dao Su congratulated him when Amon achieved the breakthrough.
"Focus on your work," Amon admonished him.
"Tch. Do not underestimate my concentration. I have no problem maintaining my focus even when I’m talking."
"Mm, in that case, tell me about the Flesh Alterer. I have gathered general information about it, but I want to listen directly from the expert in the field."
Dao Su chuckled proudly at Amon’s remark. "Hehe. In essence, a Flesh Alterer alters the organic structure of a living creature. Originally, it was developed to trigger an artificial Special Constitution. The test subjects mostly ended up with deformed body parts. Those responsible for the tests tried to undo the deformation by replacing the deformed limbs with healthy ones. This resulted in a specialty job where one’s body parts could be replaced. Considering it was a long time ago, before the Regrowth Pill was invented, this new job was well-received. The ones who performed it were not called Flesh Alterers then. Over time, they learned to replace a missing limb not only with the limbs of other humans but also with those of spirit beasts. That was when the job truly took on its own path."
"Like these bugs of yours?" Amon asked.
Dao Su didn’t work by himself. He had many mutated bugs moving between the Great Sun Hawk and the Sky Ray, carrying tools and performing other tasks. Most of the bugs had altered limbs. Some had hairy forelimbs with human fingers, enabling them to use various tools. Some had sharp crab-like claws, allowing them to cut things like scissors. Some had tentacles with suckers. The others had various weird appendages.
"Yes, like these work roaches of mine," Dao Su confirmed.
"Can they be effective for combat?" Amon asked.
"Don’t be ridiculous, even I can easily squash these things. They are only here to aid me with mundane tasks."
