Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 481. Beast Contest
Chapter 481: Chapter 481. Beast Contest
Amon activated the Great Virulent Serpent but showed no sign of dodging. He remained still as the spear energies came rushing at him. It was the Xian Cloth in his right arm that moved in response to the incoming menace.
The Xian Cloth swirled. The ceremonial dagger it was tied to slashed with incredible speed. The slashes created a crisscrossing web of sword lights around him. His current control of the Xian Cloth allowed him to use it like it was an extension of his arm. He was performing the Infinite Phantom Slash using the cloth.
Gui Xa snickered when he saw Amon’s defense. It was laughable for an Intermediate Mystic Stage cultivator to think he could block an attack from a Beginning Spirit Stage cultivator.
*CLANG!*CLANG!*CLANG!*
The sounds of rapid clanging froze the contemptuous grin on his face. The clanging sounds didn’t stop. It continued to echo as Amon’s ceremonial dagger and Xian Cloth clashed with the spear energy. When all the spear energy was gone, Amon remained at his spot. None of the spear energy hit him.
Gui Xa didn’t utter anything, but his expression said it all. He was confused about how a weaker cultivator like Amon could stop his attack perfectly. His attention turned to Amon’s black dagger and yellow cloth. Those two weapons must be special.
"My turn!" Amon exclaimed. He waved his hands, and tens of shooting stars shot forth.
His flying knives left light trails as they sped toward Gui Xa. The sight snapped Gui Xa out of his trance. He yelled, "You think you are qualified to fight me just because you blocked one of my attacks?"
He shoved his palm out. A huge water wave was summoned. It washed over the incoming starlights.
Gui Xa expected the water wave to knock all the flying knives away. To his disbelief, a few of the knives remained in their paths. He hurriedly swung the spear in his hand and knocked those knives before they hit him. During his consternation, Amon approached and swung the ceremonial dagger from afar. The Xian Cloth provided Amon with a long reach.
Gui Xa saw the attack. He harrumphed and swung his spear at the incoming dagger. The resulting collision again challenged his belief. The force that hit his spear wasn’t one from an Intermediate Mystic Stage. Even though the aura was unmistakably so, the power of the blow was almost at the level of the Beginning Spirit Stage.
Gui Xa was still stronger. The ceremonial dagger rebounded after hitting his spear, but the impact momentum prevented him from immediately counterattacking.
The ceremonial dagger quickly swung back, forcing Gui Xa to block the slash again. Thanks to the Xian Cloth, Amon didn’t need a quick flying speed to fight in the air. He slowly flew forward as the Xian Cloth did the attacking for him. It swayed back and forth at high speed while slashing from different angles.
Gui Xa couldn’t believe it. How could an Intermediate Mystic Stage trouble him so? When he realized he moved back due to the pressure from Amon’s assault, shame and anger overtook him.
"Bastard! Do you think you are qualified enough to fight me...?!" Gui Xa yelled.
The speed of his spear increased. He used martial arts that increased his stabbing speed. Yet, Amon managed to keep up. The black dagger struck the spear before it hit Amon. It then performed rapid counterattacks. With the Xian Cloth, Amon’s reach was far longer than Gui Xa’s long spear.
After uncountable fierce clashes, the two finally broke away to catch their breaths.
"I must applaud you!" Gui Xa exclaimed. "I never thought I would use this. You can be proud and brag about this in the afterlife. I only use this when facing stronger prey."
Gui Xa was holding a talisman when he spoke. Amon didn’t recognize the words of power engraved on that talisman. He was ready to dodge if Gui Xa threw that talisman at him. But to his surprise, Gui Xa stuck the talisman on his forehead.
"Hehe," Gui Xa chuckled. He suddenly became transparent before vanishing altogether. Even his aura was gone. Amon’s mystic sense couldn’t sense him.

Not far from there, the Yao Bird rushed toward the Sun Hawk. The Yao Bird was a lower mythical beast, while the Sun Hawk was a higher superior beast. On paper, the Yao Bird outclassed the Sun Hawk. Yet, the Sun Hawk didn’t back down for two reasons. Firstly, the Sun Hawk was a very proud beast. Among higher superior beasts, it could be considered among the top echelons. Secondly, it carried an ally who was also a lower mythical beast.
The Sun Hawk shot a fireball from its beak. The Yao bird swung its long neck like a flail. It slammed into the fireball and destroyed it. The fireball didn’t slow the Yao Bird. It opened its mouth, ready to take a bite.
Lin Li jumped from the Sun Hawk’s back. She turned into a blitz and zoomed past the Yao Bird. Three slight gashes appeared on the Yao Bird’s long neck. The Yao Bird’s hide was much thicker than the Yao Birdlings. Lin Li’s sharp claws failed to pierce through, but the Yao Bird still felt the slash. This caused its attempt to bite the Sun Hawk to miss.
The Sun Hawk ducked and moved away from the Yao Bird. Lin Li landed on the Yao Bird’s back and started slashing. Her claws left marks but not deep enough to draw blood.
She growled in frustration. If she changed back into her true form, she would be stronger and faster, but Amon told her not to. People might see her. Amon didn’t want anyone to know that he had a connection with a multi-tailed fox, especially one with so many tails like her.
The Yao Bird shook fiercely, trying to throw her off. Lin Li grabbed onto the harness to stay on.
While they were playing rodeo, a burst of fire came from below. It washed over the Yao Bird’s underbelly. The flame couldn’t burn its thick hide, but the heat still hurt it. In retaliation, it spewed out black smoke before hiding inside.
The Sun Hawk’s fire could burn the black smoke, but it needed time to gather the flames. It used up its flames in the initial burning of the first smoke and the fire burst just now, so it stayed away from the smoke. Its red feather slowly brightened up as it gathered the fire aether.
Inside the black smoke, the Yao Bird tossed and turned in an attempt to throw Lin Li off. Lin Li continued to have one hand gripping the harness while the other clawing the Yao Bird’s back. Since Lin Li repeatedly clawed the same area, the thick hide gradually gave way. Blood started to pour out of the wound.
The Yao Bird screeched from the pain. Its flight became even more erratic. It started spinning. Lin Li had no choice but to use both hands to keep herself from falling.
The Yao Bird curved its long neck back. Its head was now upside down above Lin Li. With an angry growl, it snapped at her.
Lin Li let go of her grip to avoid getting bitten. As a result, she fell off from the Yao Bird’s back and into the darkness of the thick black smoke. Despite being at a similar power level as a Mystic Stage cultivator, her power didn’t grant her a flying ability.
She called out while tumbling through the darkness, "Sun...!"
A screech responded to her call. A bright light shone from behind her. This bright light burned away the dark smoke. The sun hawk came into sight. The sun hawk adjusted its flight path, allowing Lin Li to land on her back. It could even control it so the flames it emitted didn’t burn her.
The sun hawk hadn’t gathered enough fire aether when Lin Li called. Its flames could only burn the smoke in its path. It was not enough to burn the entire smoke.
They saw shadows moving within the smoke. The Yao Bird could attack from anywhere. Lin Li commanded the sun hawk to fly out of this smoke. It followed the command and banked hard. However, the Yao Bird emerged then. It rammed its bigger body into the sun hawk. Its strong jaws bit into the hawk’s shoulder. The sun hawk screeched in pain as fire burst out of its body.
The Yao Bird ignored the flames. It didn’t let go of its bite. Its strong claws tore at the sun hawk’s body, drawing blood. The sun hawk also clawed back ferociously. It was fighting for its life, but the difference in power was evident. The sun hawk’s claws failed to draw blood while the Yao Bird’s did.
Lin Li didn’t stay idle. Since all around her was dark smoke, they were concealed. She was no longer worried about getting seen. She reverted to her fox form.
Her fox form was larger than before. She was twice the size from when Amon first took her in. Her fur was also longer and whiter. She again jumped onto the Yao Bird’s back. She jammed her claws and teeth into the Yao Bird.
This time, they sunk in. Blood flowed from the wound.
