Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 441. Utilizing the City Defenses
Chapter 441: Chapter 441. Utilizing the City Defenses
The customer who bought the Healthy Bed Inn was Amon. Amon knew this inn was struggling. He needed a place where he could apply the trap formations freely. Hence, he bought the place. He cleaned up the place and put a blockade at the building’s three entrances so Nan Li could work.
Nan Li was indeed good at her job. She completed the trap formations an hour before sunset. Amon paid her and sent her away. As for the inn itself, Amon kept it close. He didn’t purchase the place to earn money.
The reason he asked Nan Li to complete her job before sunset was that Daimu would most likely come for him at night, just like he did with Xiong Bao. Daimu’s mind ability was not that powerful to mask his presence from the mass during daylight.
At night, it was partly concealed by the darkness. Fewer people were also roaming at night whose minds it needed to influence. These were the other factors for Amon to choose the place. It was to lure Daimu in.
As expected, the Ghoul Koiyu came for him. It didn’t have the ability to transform into a human, but it could mask its presence from those in the vicinity using its mind power. To those who happened to look in its way, they would see a human with indistinguishable features.
Daimu approached the inn calmly. It could sense the aura of the fruits stolen by that despicable thief and traitor inside the building. All the stolen fruits were inside. Unless Amon abandoned the fruits to save himself, it was sure Amon was also inside.
Daimu hoped it was not the case. The fruits were useless to it by now. Its only desire right was to get back at Amon for betraying its trust. It wouldn’t be satisfied if it departed from this world without slaying that person.
It didn’t know how much time it had left. It didn’t consume the Longevity Fruit properly, after all. Even though it knew its time was limited, it restrained itself from rushing in. It slowly approached the entrance so it didn’t draw suspicion from the nearby pedestrians.
After arriving at the entrance, Daimu touched the door to open it. That’s when the concealed formation activated. A shining flash erupted from the formation. At the same time, a loud ringing sound was heard. The sudden flash assailed its concentration, disrupting its mind power. The mental influence he had on those in the vicinity was severed. Its true form was revealed.
There was a short silence before multiple shrieks were heard.
"Eeekk...! A spirit beast...!!!"
"How did it get inside the city...?!"
"Waa...! Save yourself! We have been invaded!!"
"Where are the city guards?!"
"Sound the alarm!!!"
Daimu was flabbergasted by the sudden turn of events. It was still confused as the humans around it screamed and ran around the places like frightened mice. This feeling of confusion was soon replaced by anger. It knew it had fallen into Amon’s trap.
It roared, "Hei Lin...!!! You, bastard! I swear I will have your head in my tentacles...!!"
Its four tentacles pierced into the inn’s wall and tore them asunder. With just one move, half of the entire inn was ripped to pieces. It sensed the aura of the fruits moved then. Amon was trying to flee. No way it would let it!
"Do not think you can escape, Hei Lin...!" Daimu yelled as it shot forward.
Its huge fish head crashed into the remaining half of the building. That remaining half soon crumbled from the impact. With the building gone, its eyes laid on Amon then. Amon was riding his Alpha Flying Knives away from there.
Unlike before, Daimu was in a better condition. It rushed forward as his four tentacles elongated and snatched the buildings in front. With the help of those tentacles, Daimu pulled its body forward, allowing it to advance faster than it normally could.
"Don’t think you can hide!" Daimu yelled. "Your concealment art won’t save you as long as you carry those fruit!"
Daimu’s voice sounded dangerously close. Amon also felt the increasing danger as Daimu approached.
Amon had hoped that it would just die out of old age since he had destroyed the Longevity Tree, but he couldn’t ignore the possibility that one fruit escaped destruction. From the look of it, that indeed happened. He was glad he had prepared this trap for that very scenario.
However, things were getting too dangerous. "Where the fuck are the city guards?" He cursed.
He sensed intense danger from behind. He looked back just in time to see Daimu perform a display of spitting something. What it spat out were bullets of water. Amon zoomed to the side. Thanks to his early reaction, he dodged all the bullets except one that was veering to the side.
He used his left arm to block this bullet. An explosion of black mist happened upon the collision. He heard Bo Wu’s scream of pain, followed by its incessant cursing inside his mind.
His life was saved, but he was thrown to the ground from the impact. His Alpha Flying knives fell with him. When he hastily rose and reasserted control of the knives, he heard a loud voice.
"Vile beast! How dare you come into our city and cause chaos!!"
A group of people in guard uniforms passed Amon by as they rushed at Daimu. Amon heaved a relieved sigh at this. He jumped back onto his Alpha Flying Knives and resumed his escape. He was thankful to these people but knew they would regret it soon. He briefly scanned them as they passed him by. One was a Peak Mystic Stage while the rest were Transformation Stage cultivators.
The Peak Mystic Stage cultivator, the group’s leader who made the announcement when he arrived, warned the others as soon as his Mystic Sense learned Daimu’s power. "Everyone, fall back...!" However, it was too late.
Daimu’s tentacles elongated and snatched four guards in the blink of an eye. Once its tentacles wrapped their bodies, it tightened and crushed their bones in a split second.
"Move aside, you worms...!" Daimu roared. It was enraged because these people slowed it down.
It took a deep breath and blew. A condensed jet of water shot out of its mouth. The jet of water pierced a city guard like a hot knife through butter. Daimu moved its head, swinging the jet of water. The jet passed through several other city guards, cutting them cleanly in two.
Out of the group, only two survived, the Peak Mystic Stage leader and a guard. The guard was positioned at the rear, so he managed to react to the leader’s warning.
"Dong Lu, how are things going!" Someone called.
The Peak Mystic Stage leader turned when he heard his name was called. He saw another group of city guards approaching. The leader who called just now was a Beginning Spirit Stage cultivator.
"Zhan Mon! Thank goodness you are here! I can’t tell for sure, but I think this spirit beast might be a higher mythical beast," Dong Lu informed.
"Higher mythical? How can it be?!" Zhan Mon uttered.
"Get out of my way, worms...!" Daimu wasn’t interested in these humans. It only wanted to catch Amon. It continued charging forward while its tentacles grabbed and destroyed the buildings nearby.
"Stop this devastation...!" Zhan Mon yelled. A chain whip appeared in his hand as he advanced. The chain whip spun at a blinding speed, creating a terrible humming sound. Zhan Mon thrust his long weapon forward when Daimu was within his range.
The weapon bounced off Daimu’s scale with a clang. It didn’t even cause a scratch.
"Shit!" Zhan Mon cursed. It was apparent this spirit beast was out of their league.
"Piss off, you all!" Daimu roared. A powerful shockwave pushed all the city guards away. In the guards’ minds, they saw a massive tidal wave suddenly materializing inside the city. They were washed by this wave and lost their balance.
The tidal wave was a mind assault from Daimu. It didn’t truly conjure a massive amount of water there. It coordinated the mind trick with the explosive shockwave it radiated. The simultaneous assault on the body and mind caused the city guards to become disoriented for a good while. It used the chance to resume its pursuit of Amon, who was getting further away.
Before he could get far, a spiraling pillar of flames descended from the sky. Daimu sensed the incoming at the last instant. Its tentacles snatched a nearby building and pulled itself to the side, avoiding the fire pillar by a hairbreadth.
It looked above with an enraged scowl. That flame attack had forced it to stop its pursuit.
Descending from the sky were two people. The one who performed the flame attack was the city marshal. He was among the strongest cultivators in Changxiu City. His cultivation was at the Peak Spirit Stage. Next to him was his deputy, an Intermediate Spirit Stage cultivator.
The marshal eyed the spirit beast below with wariness. He could sense Daimu’s power was above him.
"Have we sent out the call?" The marshal asked his deputy.
"I have. The clans in this city will send their most powerful cultivators to aid us," the deputy answered.
"This spirit beast is probably a higher mythical beast. I can’t tell for sure. Its aura is a bit chaotic. We can’t wait for reinforcements from the capital. We need to fight this beast with numbers. Judging from its attacks, this beast has water elements. My fire elements are weak against it. We must rely on your earth elements to stall until the others arrive. I will use elemental support to bolster your arts."
"I understand," the deputy said with a grim face.
