Chapter 405: Chapter 405. Bad Gambler

The flame torrent came from an intersection hallway. The flame was from talismans activated by Lon Chang and Wu Chien. Lon Chang used one fire talisman over another, keeping the flames raging.

"What’s wrong with you? This is not the time to be lazy! Keep using the talismans! Do not stop!!" Lon Chang exclaimed when he saw Wu Chien use his talismans much slower than him.

Wu Chien gritted his teeth and increased his pace. freewebnσvel.cøm

They used one talisman after another. Various elements assailed the narrow hallway. With how packed the group of prisoners was, there was nowhere to run. All anyone could do was use their defensive arts to block the assaults and endure. They weren’t even able to advance and counterattack because the pressure was unending. Using a talisman didn’t require one to spend aether, so Lon Chang and Wu Chien could use them without getting tired for as long as they didn’t run out of those talismans.

Suddenly, someone burst out of the torrents of energy raging through the hallway. This person was a middle-aged man with disheveled long hair and clothing. A rock Suit covered his body. The elements were unable to harm him.

Lon Chang was shocked that someone could barge through the hail they conjured using the talismans. He activated another talisman, which conjured many metal blades that flew forward.

The middle-aged man wasn’t perturbed by the sharp-looking blades. His rock-covered arms flashed before him. Despite using Rock Suit, his speed didn’t appear slow. His arms parried all the incoming blades. Before Lon Chang knew it, the man was already before him.

Out of reflex, he used a defensive talisman that conjured a barrier around him.

The middle-aged man made a simple swing of his arm. His palm hit the barrier from the side. The barrier shattered with one hit. The palm continued and slapped into the side of Lon Chang’s chest.

The palm attack might appear like a normal swing, but it was a martial art called Crushing Palm. The mild impact threw Lon Chang to the side. He slammed into the wall like a ragged doll. He vomited blood, and slumped to the floor, no longer getting up.

"Fuck!" Wu Chien cursed. He used two talismans consecutively before turning around and running. The first talisman summoned a raging wind accompanied by fog. The second talisman froze the air and formed an ice wall.

The middle-aged man was unfazed by the wind. He charged forward and slapped the ice wall. Unable to withstand the Crushing Palm, the ice wall shattered. The only thing left to hinder him was the fog, which covered his vision. However, this fog was pointless because he could detect Wu Chien’s position using his Mystic Sense.

The middle-aged man didn’t immediately charge over, because he sensed something fast and small rushing from behind him. This something blitzed past him and flew forward.

Wu Chien, running as fast as he could, fumbled through the talismans tugged in his belt. His heart was beating very fast. Because of his nervousness, some talismans fell to the ground. He just grabbed whatever his hands could get on. He no longer had the time to identify the talisman’s effect.

He heard a whooshing sound. He turned back and saw a flash of something. He activated the talisman in his hand, hoping it was a defensive talisman. Instead, it shot a lightning arrow forward. The lightning arrow and the flashing thing passed by one another. The flashing thing stabbed into his throat. He could see then it was a slightly large double-bladed knife.

As soon as the double-bladed knife embedded itself into his throat, it was pulled back out by an invisible force. His throat was ripped in the process.

"Hack...!" Blood spurted out of his mouth and throat.

He dropped to the floor. His last thought was that he was a bad gambler, after all.

The knife was Amon’s alpha flying knife. As the knife flew back, Amon flew out of the raging elemental torrents, riding two alpha flying knives on his feet. He could fly after entering the Beginning Mystic Stage, but his flying speed was slow. He could be considered floating instead of flying. Riding the alpha flying knives using the Flying Sword art made him fly much faster.

His alpha flying knives were unique. He was not afraid of people identifying his weapons because the prisoners’ visions were blocked by the elemental torrents. The only one who saw his weapons was the middle-aged man.

Amon landed beside the middle-aged man and stored his three alpha flying knives. The two looked at one another.

"What’s your name?" Amon asked.

"Bu Zheng," the middle-aged man answered.

"Bu Zheng! If you wish, follow me after we get out of here," Amon said.

Bu Zheng didn’t reply. Amon didn’t wait for his reply. He returned to where the prisoners were. Without any more talisman assaults, the elemental torrents subsided. Many prisoners lay lifeless on the floor. Many more were wounded. Only those who happened to be further away from the hallway intersection were safe.

Unfortunately, among the killed prisoners was Bian Cheng. Ah Bin held him in his arms, but it was too late to save him. Ah Bin exchanged glances with Amon. Amon frowned, seeing the death of one of his followers he came to rescue. He looked away. Ah Bin didn’t blame him. Amon avoided letting the prisoners here know that they knew each other.

Ah Bin lifted Bian Cheng’s body to take it with him, but then he heard Amon’s voice.

"Everyone, leave the corpses unless you want to be caught again. We need to move fast."

Amon made it appear like he was addressing the masses, but Ah Bin knew the words were for him. Ah Bin dropped Bian Cheng’s body back on the floor. He uttered an apology to his dead friend and resumed running with the others.

The prisoners opened the door and entered the courtyard. They were surprised to see the wall that usually separated them from the outside world now had a huge hole. The sound of fighting was heard from above. They looked up and saw the few remaining guards on the wall fighting unknown intruders.

"Stop sightseeing!" Amon yelled at them. They snapped out of their trance after hearing the call. They all rushed toward the hole in the wall.

The wall was made by disguised Demon Gang members using several exploding talismans. This feat was possible because Amon had deactivated the words of power protecting the wall. Otherwise, even using a hundred exploding talismans wouldn’t put a dent in that wall.

This hole was not the only one they made. The walls on the Northern and Southern sides also had similar holes.

As for the Constable Office, a huge fire was raging on one side of the building. It was also Demon Gang members who caused the fire. This fire hampered the constables inside the building from reacting to the jailbreak.

By the time the constables arrived, many prisoners had already rushed out through the holes in the walls. These prisoners split in all directions. All the constables could do was pick the nearest ones and chase them. Many other prisoners were free of pursuit because of that.

Amon instructed everyone to split before disappearing into the shadow. Ah Bin called his workshop supervisors to follow him. Together, they headed toward the nearest Demon Gang hideout. Amon watched over them from the shadow.

Amon didn’t actively use his Concealed Ghost Body. He did this so Bu Zheng could follow. He sensed the middle-aged man following him from a distance.

When they approached the hideout, Amon circled the perimeter from the roofs. Thankfully, it was nighttime. The Demon Gang also always chose a quiet area for their secret hideouts so fewer people were around to notice them.

Amon landed at the entrance after Ah Bin and the others entered. He waited there. Bu Zheng arrived not long after.

"I don’t like owing anyone anything. I will follow you until I have the chance to repay you for my freedom," Bu Zheng explained.

Amon chuckled. He removed his disguise. He then gestured for Bu Zheng to follow him into the hideout.

Inside, Gao Lan was waiting for them. She knew Ah Bin or anyone from their organization who fled the jail would come here to hide. She welcomed everyone back.

"Where is Biang Cheng?" Gao Lan asked.

"He didn’t make it," Ah Bin replied with a sad expression.

"What a waste... He was a pretty talented formation sage," Gao Lan sighed.

"It can’t be helped," Amon said. He then addressed those he had just saved. "From now on, you cannot go out in public anymore. You must stay hidden. If you must go out, use a disguise. You are fugitives now."

Ah Bin sighed, but he understood the situation.

"Don’t worry. I promise you this is only temporary," Amon added. "Once we reestablish contact with the thirteenth prince and regain his support, we will restore your status. Until then, lay low."

"You have a connection to the prince of this kingdom?" Bu Zheng asked.

"Who is this?" Gao Lan asked Amon.

"This is our new member," Amon replied.
