Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 403. Prison Break
Chapter 403: Chapter 403. Prison Break
Amon stabbed Cho Won using a needle. Cho Won was an Intermediate Mystic Stage cultivator. Despite his higher cultivation, he didn’t resist. At this stage, he could only pray that Amon kept his word and released his family.
Cho Won slumped on the floor after receiving the stab. He was not dead. The needle was not laced with a deadly poison. It was laced with the Tranquil Sleep Powder.
The Tranquil Sleep Powder was a drug Amon modified from the Endless Slumber Poison. While the Endless Slumber Poison caused its victim to enter an endless sleep, the Tranquil Sleep Powder was simply a sleeping pill. It gave its users several hours of peaceful and uninterrupted sleep. Amon had thought about marketing this drug as the third recreative drug. He didn’t expect to use it in an operation even before the drug hit the market.
The contraption Cho Won just deactivated was like the master control to all the enchantments inside this jail. All the words of power that enhanced the building and provided the alarm system were now down.
Amon took the key from Cho Won’s hand before leaving the room. The key was a master key that could open every door in this jail. Only the warden and his assistant supervisors had this key. The warden was currently out to attend a social party at an upper-class district. A party hosted by San Guo’s friend with a fund contribution from San Guo. Due to that, San Guo was given the liberty to add some people to be invited. Among the invited guests were the warden and many constables from the constable office next door to this jail.
As for the other assistant warden, he and Cho Won shared different shifts. The night shift was Cho Won’s.
Amon walked to the dining room for the prison guards. By the time he arrived, everything was quiet. He peeked inside the room and saw that everyone was sleeping, including Wu Chien, the prison guards they had bribed to put the Tranquil Sleep Powder into the meal.
Amon took out a list given by Wu Chien earlier this afternoon. He observed the list while counting the prison guards. The warden of this jail administered strict discipline, so all prison guards had their meals at the same time. This caused the guards to consume the drug all at once and thus, fall to sleep in unison. Still, Amon preferred to make sure.
His quick count revealed that three guards who were supposed to be in this dining room were missing. While he was studying the list to determine who the three missing guards were, he heard footsteps from one of the three entrances into the dining room.
He quickly positioned himself in a corner close to that entrance. He melded into the shadow in that corner by using Concealed Ghost Body. When the footsteps arrived at the entrance, they stopped. He heard gasping voices followed by hurried footsteps. Two men in prison guard uniforms ran into the room and started checking the nearest unconscious guard.
After learning that the unconscious guard was still alive, the two started shaking him to wake him up. Their effort was fruitless, though. Those under the influence of Tranquil Sleep Powder wouldn’t wake up until the drug ran out of its duration.
Amon supposed these were two of the three missing guards. While the two were busy with their futile effort, Amon threw the needles he had prepared beforehand. From Wu Chien’s list, he knew only the warden and the assistant wardens had the cultivation in the Mystic Realm. All the prison guards were at the Transformation Stage. Hence, these two didn’t detect the incoming flying needles.
These needles were laced with the Tranquil Sleep Powder. The two felt a prick at the back of their necks. The needles were already flying back to Amon when their hands went to check what had caused the prick. They spent the last few seconds in confusion before extreme drowsiness took over. The two joined their sleeping comrades.
Only one prison guard was unaccounted for. Amon decided not to bother with this last one. He couldn’t waste time looking for this one missing guard. One guard with the Transformation Stage cultivation didn’t matter enough to warrant a delay in the operation.
Currently, aside from this one missing guard, only nine other prison guards were not sleeping in this place. Eight of the nine guards were sentries stationed on the walls encircling this jail. The ninth guard was stationed at the entrance to the hall that housed the prison cells. These nine had a different mealtime than the rest of the guards.
Aside from those guards, the remaining workers, such as cooks, cleaners, and administration staff, were all non-combatants. They were people who didn’t practice cultivation or were still at the Mortal Stage. They were not a threat to their operation.
Amon left the dining hall and ran toward where the prison cells were located. Thanks to the map layout San Guo procured, he knew exactly which way to go.
Amon used Cho Won’s key to open the door to the hall with the prison cells. A guard was sitting beside the door. He stood at attention because he thought it was Assistant Warden Cho Won who came. Other than him, only the warden and the assistant warden could open this door.
When he saw the one entering was a prison guard he had never seen before, he was bewildered for a few seconds. This bewilderment slowed his reaction when Amon made a throwing motion. A needle stabbed into his neck. He was pulling the needle out of his neck when his vision started spinning, and he fell.
After taking care of the guard, Amon looked around. The prison cells were lined up along three sides of the hall and had three floors. There were almost a hundred prison cells inside this hall. Almost all the cells housed prisoners. A few cells had only one prisoner, while many had three to four. Many prisoners were already sleeping inside the cells, but some saw what Amon did. They were staring at him with wide eyes.
Amon stomped the floor multiple times, making loud noises. This woke up the prisoners who were asleep. All the prisoners now stared at Amon. Amon saw all of them had engraved chains binding their feet. These chains were not part of the system Cho Won deactivated, so they were still effective.
Amon also saw Ah Bin and Bian Cheng among the prisoners but acted like he didn’t know them.
He yelled, "Everyone! Do you wish to be free?"
"Who are you?" One of the prisoners asked.
"I am a member of the rebels. I am here to save you. Since you are here, that makes you the kingdom’s enemies. The enemies of the kingdom are friends to the rebels!"
The prisoners looked at one another. Although they were imprisoned, half was due to minor crimes. Declaring that they were the kingdom’s enemies and the rebel’s friends were too much. They preferred to have nothing to do with the rebels. The other half, however, had different thoughts. They started yelling, "Get me out of here! I will gladly join the rebels!"
"Very well," Amon said. He floated to the cell on the third floor containing the prisoners who declared their willingness to join the rebels. He intentionally showcased that he was a Mystic Stage cultivator to dissuade these people from trying anything. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
He used Cho Won’s master key to open the cell’s door. Inside the cell were three rough-looking criminals. From the look of it, these criminals were here for rather heavy offenses. They were either slated to be in here for a very long time or awaiting death sentences. If that was the case, it was no wonder they were so eager to be let out.
Amon revealed a common-looking dagger but of high-tier engraved grade. The three criminals stepped back uneasily. Amon turned into a flash. His dagger slashed with lightning speed. The three criminals used their arms to block their faces. When they realized they were unharmed, they looked down and saw that the chains that bound their feet had been cut. Those chains were made of extremely sturdy materials. For Amon to cut them so easily convinced them even more not to oppose Amon.
"Gather down there," Amon instructed. He went to another cell to free other prisoners.
The criminals originally planned to run out after they were freed, but decided to no longer do that.
Amon proceeded to open one cell after another. After freeing up tens of prisoners, he came to where Ah Bin and Bian Cheng were held. The two were confused. They never expressed their willingness to get out. They were hesitant about being branded as the rebel’s friends. Why were they being freed as well? They didn’t know that the person freeing them was Amon in disguise until they heard him whisper.
"I am Amon. Act like you don’t know me. Get down there with the others and wait for my instruction,"
The two looked at one another before following Amon’s instructions. Amon continued to go to other cells and free more prisoners.
