Rise of The Demon General-Chapter 386. The Annihilation of the Yan Clan
Chapter 386: Chapter 386. The Annihilation of the Yan Clan
Yan Wang continued to fight the spider woman. The spider woman’s paralyzing toxin might be potent, but his Spirit Stage constitution could suppress it. He had also consumed a curative pill to help battle the poison.
He had to fight more carefully, though. As long as he wasn’t hit by her web another time, his body slowly neutralized the paralysis effect. Thus, he kept his distance and avoided getting drawn into a close combat. With such a careful fighting style, he couldn’t deal any meaningful damage to the spider woman. The fight turned into a protracted battle.
That was fine. His objective was no longer to defeat the spider woman but to buy his clansmen time to escape through the secret tunnel.
However, even that was getting harder by the minute. More and more spirit beasts appeared. More and more of his clansmen who fought with him fell victim to this unending spirit beast tide.
Despite the situation, Yan Clan members fought valiantly. But when another mid-mythical beast appeared, they knew it was time to withdraw.
The second mid-mythical spirit beast that assaulted their clan was a large ape-like creature. Half of its upper body was covered by thick red hair, so no one knew what its face or head looked like. Four muscled arms protruded from that mass of hair. These arms could punch rapidly, and each punch caused a wind projectile equal to the power of a cannon shot.
Its muscled legs enabled it to jump a great distance. It caught everyone off-guard with its long leap and arrived before the main hall before anyone could react. Its four arms slammed simultaneously into the roof of the main hall, causing the entire roof to collapse.
"Tsk!" Though Yan Wang knew it was inevitable, he still felt heartache seeing the majestic building of his main hall get obliterated.
"Master, we can hold no more!" One of his clansmen informed.
"How are the refugees?" Yan Wang asked.
"They have all entered the secret tunnel!"
Yan Wang looked at the collapsed main hall. Even the ground floor crumbled, revealing the basement where the secret tunnel was. He could see the entrance to the secret tunnel. Many giant lizards crawled through the ruin and rushed into the tunnel. These lizards must have caught the scent of the fleeing refugees and chased them into the tunnel. He hoped the refugees had put in enough distance that they could exit the tunnel before the lizards caught on to them.
He could go down and kill the lizards while tracing the tunnel to get out of the city. The problem was the mid-mythical ape-like spirit beast was in the middle of the main hall ruins. He would have to get past that spirit beast to enter the tunnel. He did not doubt if he did so, the spider woman would utilize the chance to ambush him. It was too risky.
"Everyone! We leave!" Yan Wang called.
Those still alive were extremely glad to hear the order. They didn’t think they could endure longer. The spirit beasts chased after them when they started retreating. Yan Wang helped cover their backs using his golden sword. The spider woman also gave chase. It harassed Yan Wang and hindered his every step.
Many Yan Clan members lost their lives in this withdrawal. It was easier to mount a defense when one was static than when moving. They had to fight the spirit beasts that chased after them and the spirit beasts that just arrived. Even Yan Wang was not unscathed. The spider woman managed to land a hit. Her sharp legs drew a gash on his left shoulder.
Only after they were out of the estate that the spider woman stop chasing them. She had made lots of cocoons from the Yan Clan members she caught earlier. She didn’t want to risk losing them to catch Yan Wang. There was also that strange fragrance and tune that drew her here. She couldn’t exactly pinpoint the source of the fragrance and tune even with her mythical-grade senses, but she was sure it should be around this estate. Hence, she headed back to the Yan Clan estate.
"Clan master, are you alright?" One of the surviving clansmen asked. They numbered only eleven.
"I’m fine. Let’s hurry to our secret tunnel’s exit," Yan Wang answered. He had used the meridian point technique to stop the bleeding, but it was still hurt. His wound also felt itchy. The spider woman’s leg seemed to have administered some sort of poison when she stabbed him. He was using his Spirit Stage energy to neutralize whatever was invading his body.
Thankfully, the city wall wasn’t far. Once they were out of the city, there were fewer spirit beasts. Although this part of the city wall was close to the Yan Estate, where the Allure Beacon was hidden, fewer humans were outside the city. Hence, there was less prey. The spirit beasts didn’t linger long. They rushed to where more prey was located, which meant they were hunting humans all around the city.
Even though they didn’t have to travel far and there were no especially powerful spirit beasts, they still had a rough journey. The wounds they suffered from the fierce battle at their clan estate made them vulnerable. By the time they were out of the city, their number had reduced to only six, including Yan Wang.
They were silent throughout their remaining journey. Their bodies were tired, their hearts depressed, and their gazes were vacant. When they arrived at their destination, the heartbreaking sight that greeted them didn’t even cause them to recoil in shock. They just stared at the scene with a hollow stare.
There was no exit. Rubbles had filled up the way out of the tunnel. On top of the rubble that blocked the tunnel’s exit was a mound of corpses. They recognized the corpses. They were their clan members.
Their eyes swept through the mound to find the faces they were looking for. When they saw their loved ones, they finally reacted. They wailed as they approached the mound.
Yan Wang was the same. He was looking around at the corpses. When he finally found Yan Dose, tears flowed down his eyes. His son might be a disappointment, but Yan Dose was still his son. He approached the mound with silent grief. Unlike the others who cried loudly, he must maintain his composure as a clan master, even in such a grim circumstance.
He touched his son’s face. His spirit had been severely broken. In a short span of a day, he lost his son, his estate, and a majority of his clan members. He just stood there, staring at his son’s dead face. He didn’t bother thinking about what they should do next.
The others, who hadn’t seen their loved ones among the corpses, approached the mound. They hoped the people they were looking for were not in this mound, but they had to make sure. They started removing the corpses from the outer layer to see the ones inside. As they did, they saw several flashing talismans stuck on the bodies of the corpses in the inner layer.
"What...?"
The person who noticed the talismans didn’t know what they were, but his remark drew Yan Wang’s attention. His eyes turned wide seeing the flashing talismans.
"Everyone! Get aw–"
*BOOM!!!*
The mound of corpses burst with a fiery explosion. Yan Wang slammed into a tree due to the force. He activated Iron Skin once he noticed the talisman but was slightly late. The point-blank blast injured him. As for his clan members, they were all killed by the explosion. To make matters worse, his surroundings were now covered in dark purple fog.
"Hack!" He vomited blood. The trauma from the explosion made him involuntarily inhale the purple air a little. He knew at once it was poison.
A strong wind erupted from him, blowing all the purple smoke away. He quickly ate a curative pill before using the meridian points technique to halt the poison. He was soon dumbfounded. The poison he had just inhaled was even more potent than the spider woman’s. His body was having trouble neutralizing it.
He sensed something fast coming at his back. He spun back with a hand swipe. The swipe conjured a wave that knocked away his ambushers, which turned out to be a pair of large knives. These knives flew back and then hovered around someone who jumped down from the branches above.
"Who are you?" Yan Wang asked. The person’s face was covered in a black mask. He failed to sense this person earlier. Now that he focused his sense on the person, he knew this ambusher was a Peak Transformation cultivator.
"Are you the one who did this...?!" He asked again. He pointed at the mangled corpses all over the ground. The explosion had thrown the corpses everywhere.
"I did," the person answered and removed his mask.
"You...!"
"Me," Amon uttered.
"You... You, evil beast...! How could you use this disaster to hurt my clan like this...!" Yan Wang exclaimed.
Amon smirked. He responded, "You annihilated the Lin Clan. I annihilate yours."
